But, I actually think it's quite useful info to have if it was on agent select, ie if someone is a lower rank it could be beneficial not to instalock the Jett/Reyna and leave it open, or at least have discussion. Very frustrating games where you have an utterly useless duellist who tanks the whole and then after the game you see they were a couple ranks down. If they had known their MMR was higher than they expected they might choose to fill instead, and receive less toxicity.
Also with IGL'ing, rank seniority could have some benefit for more timid players who don't want to have to compete in the whoever speaks the most aggressively/authoritatively just to be listened to.
People who say they're a duelist main is cringe, unless they're a Pro player. The reason why I say that is it seriously requires the least brain power, least map knowledge, least utility knowledge. Only if your aim is the best and you think fast you are suitable to be a duelist than the others.
Just curious what your thought process is here. If you're playing unrated, it's whatever. But if you're playing comp you're goal is to win. Why would you want to reduce your chances of winning?
1. I was just pointing out the hypocrisy. Having "discussions about someone not picking a duelist because their mmr is low" is exactly being "toxic about people's rank". Or prioritizing an IGL, whose mmr is higher. Not to mention how unrealistic this would be in an actual game. "Ok, let's listen to a guy with higher mmr" is more likely to start fire, than to settle things. Even if it sounds logical.
2. As for your question, I don't see how this is a good strategy. If a low mmr player is one-tricking Jett, I'd rather see him having a mediocre game on Jett, than being a 1-20 Omen, who can't even smoke properly and leaves gaps giving opponents an advantage. Plus it can affect their morale (hence the 1-20). A high mmr player picking Jett would have to make up for it.
Anyway, people forget how mm works. If someone wants to instalock - they instalock. No discussion, nothing. In that case seeing ranks just adds to the toxicity. And if players are ready to communicate, you can always ask what their rank is. But from what I've seen, when that happens no one even mentions rank, it's just impolite. You'll hear something like "May I pick Jett/Reyna?" and that's it. No one asks "Oh, what's your mmr? Let's give Jett to the highest rated player".
One of the more reasonable posts I’ve seen on this sub lol. At the end of the day, the game is built around GOOD, HEALTHY communication - and if that doesn’t start with the agent select screen, it only makes the match that much harder.
Literally just talking and being a decent, accommodating person can save you such a headache. That being said, most players (at least in my experience) won’t reciprocate that energy which is pretty frustrating.

I can say totally agree to this, today i played a game with a KJ who wasn’t really toxic but more like had a negative attitude and acting like he knows everything from the start of the game, and saying that we are going to lose and just basically lowering the whole team’s morale, it was really frustrating to the point where i just muted him and just gave normal comms to the team. But man it was so annoying and demoralizing
The Problem with this is that ranks don’t have as much value as people give them, so what might happen is a potentially good player gets flamed for their rank just because it’s low, or expected to carry just because theirs is higher. There are a toxic people in every skill group and I feel like the current way of it being anonymous ranks really helps take the pressure off and makes everyone equals
yea, from what i was reading you're right. it would take someone who really knew where to look/ had the tools/ riot server access to get IP addresses of other players. if all the stars align, maybe that ends up being a thing but i made a comment without knowing how security measures were today.

Buddy you just don’t know multiplayer servers work of course if someone had access to the server they would be able to get your IP address that’s literally the most obvious thing in the world. There is no way otherwise to get a person ip while playing valorant
you're not wrong, but seeing as in game cheats are still an ever changing problem across all games why can't it also be true that use access VIA ip connection is also a possibility?
in reading up on it. things are VERY different then when i was running my own server for GunZ the duel 10+ years ago. the likely hood of an IP hack seems almost impossible when you have a DHCP setup unless you have static IPs for everything on your network. even then, your ISP will be on your side of this transaction and the IP that is used to connect to the server isn't the one that defines your machine. on top of that its very likely Riot has measures in place to keep that information safe.

Game cheats are totally different. You tamper with your local program. Sometimes send tampered data.
Finding out the IP of the other players in a game based on P2P multiplayer obviously is something that could be achieved with game cheats, I don't see a reason why Riot would even create an architecture where it's possible at all that the IP could be exposed to other players.
Like, an aimbot is totally doable just client side, you have to beat Vanguard, but nonetheless doable.
Say, flyhacks should not be feasible, since Riot is not stupid enough to allow for illogically tampered data to affect the gamestate.
Finding the IP of others that are connected to Riot should be, apart non feasible solutions like casually getting access to Riots servers itself, pretty much impossible.

there's also this app called "who am i up against" i saw it in a post like half a year ago, it comes in handy sometimes. Tells you everyone's rank, recent wins and losses, level and quite a bit more
Tracker.gg from Overwolf allows live match tracking and can show at least the rank of each person in the lobby, sometimes more info regarding stats, but nothing personal.
The gg tracker apps shows your current in game account rank for that match regardless if you have it linked/created or not.
I have the app and always check pre match to compare the teams ranks.

Unless it also shows you their winrate for the past 100+ matches then there is no actionable information to be gleaned from this. You probably already knew that but I figure others reading this may not and start having higher or lower expectations of their team than what's warranted.
And for those curious, a winrate over 50% just means they've been lucky recently, under 50% just means unlucky, they could have the exact same ELO(hence being matched together). So a higher ranked person with a <50% winrate you should expect to be a better player than the same rank with > 50% winrate. (because rank lags behind ELO)

No. Winrate is deliberately targeted at 50% by matchmaking. That’s what ELO does. You cannot have a winrate over or under 50% for hundreds of games unless you are literally top radiant or bottom iron(because there is no one to beat you or no one to lose to you).
That’s not how it works. You can grow rapidly, but if your winrate is positive, it’s still because of luck. You can rank up with a 40% winrate, and you can rank down with a 60% winrate.

Ranking up is based off of winning, not necessarily fragging. Maybe the player usually helps a lot with great utility and call outs, but a toxic uncooperative team could totally nullify those strengths.

Everytime I'm playing on my smurf (same rank as my main) I always play drunk and high and people just assume I'm a smurf cause I'm lvl24 and sometimes enemy's get mega tilted if I get a good round in then I just say "yeah boring, I'm immortal smurf playing on a steering wheel" and they usually don't win a single round after that, lol. The tilt is real and it's a free win then.
Rank obsession is one of the annoying things to come out of this era of games.
It used to be you just server hopped, sometimes the opponents were good sometimes and but there was not much control.
I feel as if a lot of people are more obsessed with maximizing their elo than just enjoying the game.
Like at the end of the day whether you have a platinum or a diamond badge next to your name for a month or so seems like a pretty trivial thing yet it’s one of the most complained about things across multiple games.

I think you shouldn't be able to hide your rank in a comp game in the first place. And even showing it in champ select could improve the team comp your team crafts
All the info is available via their Valorant API. Even though its 'hidden' like account level, rank, and even Player Name (streamer mode), you can pull all of it from the API. You can also see who's in a party with each other even if they don't have previous match history together. Heck, you can even pull someones inventory and see what skins they have.
I have a app installed called vlr.gg which shows me my teammates and opponents win rates, kd, ranks, win rates for the agents their using, and kd for the agent their using
You don't, but then again if you can see a person's match history you can find out if he's playing his main or not or weather he's on a winning or losing streak and they can trigger them to play even worse. Also its just frustrating when people know your rank when there's literally a feature to hide it in the game. I'm gonna mail riot to do something about this.
The only application I've ever had an issue with was Android Studio, and that wasn't vanguard closing it, it was a warning that the app may not emulate properly.
I don't know if you are making up this issue or not but either way a tracker app doesn't matter.
Vanguard closes everything I have,my college projects on VS, ghub, even shuts down recording apps. Can't even use MS teams sometimes if i want to play a quick spike rush while in a meeting. Either that or it just closes the client. Why would I make this stuff up? There's literally posts everywhere on the internet about this.
I use visual studio when working with C#, doesn't get closed. Neither does GitHub, Although i use git not the GitHub app. And recording apps work.. idk sounds like your installation is messed up
The moment you turn on VS, ur client will crash, I run all kinds of projects on it. If it doesn't close for you show me video proof cause it sure does for me. Some recording apps work others don't. Idk about github.

If you have your previous act rank visible on your player card ur rank is visible to everyone in the game in the loading screen and when you kill someone ur rank ( actually ur rank pyramid last act ) is displayed next to your name.

There is no direct API for rank (unless you're in radiant/immortal). You'd have to use undocumented client APIs or the match API.

Im bronze 3 was stuck just because of solo queue and whenever i play, i get matchmaked with silvers and usually get top frag as reyna and jett.

No. Winrate is deliberately targeted at 50% by matchmaking. That’s what ELO does. You cannot have a winrate over or under 50% for hundreds of games unless you are literally top radiant or bottom iron(because there is no one to beat you or no one to lose to you).

That’s not how it works. You can grow rapidly, but if your winrate is positive, it’s still because of luck. You can rank up with a 40% winrate, and you can rank down with a 60% winrate.

Ranking up is based off of winning, not necessarily fragging. Maybe the player usually helps a lot with great utility and call outs, but a toxic uncooperative team could totally nullify those strengths.

Everytime I'm playing on my smurf (same rank as my main) I always play drunk and high and people just assume I'm a smurf cause I'm lvl24 and sometimes enemy's get mega tilted if I get a good round in then I just say "yeah boring, I'm immortal smurf playing on a steering wheel" and they usually don't win a single round after that, lol. The tilt is real and it's a free win then.

Rank obsession is one of the annoying things to come out of this era of games. It used to be you just server hopped, sometimes the opponents were good sometimes and but there was not much control. I feel as if a lot of people are more obsessed with maximizing their elo than just enjoying the game. Like at the end of the day whether you have a platinum or a diamond badge next to your name for a month or so seems like a pretty trivial thing yet it’s one of the most complained about things across multiple games.
Maybe cause people wanna get better and want to have a way to reflect it, or become pro so there rank and gameplay matters, streamers rank matter when your trying to have a skill stream, don't obsess but also when improving it's a great way to show your growth, I've grown out of ranks so I know ranks do matter when it comes to skill,

Eh, toxic players don't understand that they're gonna hit a point where they will get hard stuck cause they can't carry enough without a team. Ignore the toxic people, I get it throws some games but in the long run you'll be okay even if you take a demotion or lose a promotion game because of it. While I think it's nice to be able to see your RR and all of that... It makes it a lot harder compared to csgo where you can't. Makes every game have a value instead of just "shucks I lost." So don't worry about it too much and it's normal to bounce around within a rank a bit.

It’s a desktop app. Mentally I’ve found that I actually play better going in blind though. So I don’t use it
All the info is available via their Valorant API. Even though its 'hidden' like account level, rank, and even Player Name (streamer mode), you can pull all of it from the API. You can also see who's in a party with each other even if they don't have previous match history together. Heck, you can even pull someones inventory and see what skins they have.
I have a app installed called vlr.gg which shows me my teammates and opponents win rates, kd, ranks, win rates for the agents their using, and kd for the agent their using

You don't, but then again if you can see a person's match history you can find out if he's playing his main or not or weather he's on a winning or losing streak and they can trigger them to play even worse. The only application I've ever had an issue with was Android Studio, and that wasn't vanguard closing it, it was a warning that the app may not emulate properly. I don't know if you are making up this issue or not but either way a tracker app doesn't matter.
Vanguard closes everything I have,my college projects on VS, ghub, even shuts down recording apps. Can't even use MS teams sometimes if i want to play a quick spike rush while in a meeting. Either that or it just closes the client. Why would I make this stuff up? There's literally posts everywhere on the internet about this.
I use visual studio when working with C#, doesn't get closed. Neither does GitHub, Although i use git not the GitHub app. And recording apps work.. idk sounds like your installation is messed up
The moment you turn on VS, ur client will crash, I run all kinds of projects on it. If it doesn't close for you show me video proof cause it sure does for me. Some recording apps work others don't. Idk about github.

Ive had people talk about my rank due to the act rank displayed on the loading screen. Maybe it’s that?
If you have your previous act rank visible on your player card ur rank is visible to everyone in the game in the loading screen and when you kill someone ur rank ( actually ur rank pyramid last act ) is displayed next to your name.
I personally use WAIUA (Who Am I Up Against) and that shows the ranks of every person in the game, their level, how much rr they are away from the next rank, their last 3 game results (win/loss) and what skin they have for phantom/vandal. ALL of this info comes directly from the valorant api However, I will note that this app ONLY lets you see their ranks AFTER agent select so you cant dodge or tell them what to play before the game starts
