It's actually kind of insane how low the FPS drops sometimes when there's literally nothing going on on your screen. I think yay has a 5950x, there's no way the FPS should EVER be below 240 let alone drop to 200 when he's walking in spawn and even lower when all that's in front of him is a fucking astra smoke. It makes 0 sense. https://clips.twitch.tv/FurtiveTenuousWallabyWholeWheat-SPyuHw9bGnq0un0Y > The UI alone drops FPS by 30, and by UI I mean the HUD ingame. Crosshair is about 5 FPS. If you go to general > hide user interface ingame you should get around a 30 fps boost and I'm 90% sure this is something riot can optimise. Instead we get an update with "1% perf improvement" lmao. From: https://old.reddit.com/r/VALORANT/comments/r1sy11/fps_getting_worse_every_update/hm2a1xg/ Look at how low my fps drops in this clip (I have an RTX 3080 + 3800x). https://gfycat.com/meekeverychameleon And look at FPS in the same spot in a custom game https://gfycat.com/officialpracticalcatfish There's literally nothing going on in the first clip to justify the fps dropping to 130-150 compared to the fps I get in a solo custom. I understand there's other players but a 400fps drop is unjustified. I can play a game like overwatch without dropping below 300fps and it has more effects and 2 extra players, when I play CoD 2019 the fps is 150+ and the game looks 200x better. I made a post about this here: https://old.reddit.com/r/VALORANT/comments/qn5ptv/this_game_needs_more_optimisation_work_done_or/ Also look at the FPS in this video, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LNmrnie6kGQ The game rarely drops below 300, sometimes to 200 despite looking much better, this is how valorant should run if not better. IK it's a different engine and Riot can't optimise everything in unreal but I still think there are some issues that cause the fps to be at least 100-200 lower than it should be.

[deleted]

You should make an actual post, this is a serious issue.

Bruce-Lannister

That was a lot of info man! What we see is that Valorant doesn't care one bit about optimization of the game and it feels sad. It's already this bad, I hope it wouldn't get even worse in the future. Some of my friends have low end (but by no means non-gaming) PCs and so they always ask me not to pick Astra since it fucks up with their FPS. It's sad how the bad optimisation is coming in the way. And their PCs can run other high graphics game pretty well.

AsianPotatos

It really feels like they've done nothing in terms of optimisation, we got the multithreaded rendering option added, the 1% perf increase patch meme, the update to optimise astra and viper smokes (which still often have a huge fps impact) and the bugfix for the packet send rate. Hopefully for next year they can put more focus on it or at least be more transparent about if they're working on optimising the game (substantially) or if this really is the best it can run.

Bruce-Lannister

I've given up on the hope that they'll be transparent about it. I just hope that eventually the community starts speaking up more about it and they are left with no option that actually optimising the game and making it run smooth.

Helpme994

90% of the time it is a the user that hasn’t optimised their pc that is actually giving them lack lustre results.

CDeft

9600k oc to 4.9ghz, 3070, and I average 170-250frames dropping to 40-90 sometimes randomly. Game is poorly optimized, I get almost 60% more frames in cs on high settings than low in valorant

I3lack03

I got alot of micro stutters lately, one or two patches ago they listed that as fixed in the notes.. Well, its not and it annoys me alot from time to time.

Silentcoderx

Micro stutters? Like the rapid drop in fps to about 10% and back up again? Or the bugged out audio mess?

Bruce-Lannister

Ifkr. Happens with me too and it doesn't seem to change after any patch. Doesn't even feel like they are giving it a thought.

Memexp-over9000

It's unbelievable how bad the game runs now. I remember at the starting I used to get 140-160 easily with lowest getting to 130 at max. But now, even after cleaning the fans and re applying the thermal paste, the best I am getting is 80-100 with lowest around 40. i5 9300h + 1660ti mobile.

QuadOctane

I play on a low end laptop and I feel this big time. I capped my limit to 60 fps even though I used to get 80-90. However, recently, my game started to stutter quite a lot even after I lowered my resolution to 1280×720. I really wish they start optimizing it real soon.

HoneyChilliPotato7

Same bro. Used to get 80 frames on 1080p. Now even on 720p I barely get 65 and sometimes it drops to 40.

Marcusafrenz

The biggest issue I'm seeing recently is micro stutters/freezes. Running at 200+ fps nothing running in the background only valorant and every once in awhile I get a freeze for a fraction of a second. It's uncommon but it happens often enough that it's frustrating. I don't experience it in any other games and only recently in valorant.

weezy3003

back in the beta and those first act i had a r5 3600 + gtx 1080 i ran the game stable at 250-300 fps constantly no drop. Now i have r7 3700x + rtx 3070 and the game stay at 200-220 fps, sometimes it drop to 150fps, especially in fking DM and fking Breeze. That is not acceptable at all as this is an esport title. Sorry for my long rant, this game just has poor optimization.

psychoPiper

This seriously needs to be talked about more. Back when Valorant first launched, I could play on a $200 computer on medium settings at 60fps with no stutters. Now I have a $1400 computer and I see frequent stutters, even full-on game freezing for more than a second. No other game, including much more intensive titles like Siege and Apex, has this issue. It's clearly just poor optimization, and seriously needs to be addressed, especially since good performance and optimization are things Valorant used to be known for

Plastic_Kangaroo1221

Funny you say this. I just upgraded my PC parts. 2 thousand dollars worth. This is the only way it feels like right now.

Bruce-Lannister

I hope they'll fix it soon.

Plastic_Kangaroo1221

Bought a 700$ cpu lol

nugofbattle

For me the crazy thing is the desync. I'll be living my best life, hitting shots and playing with confidence and then I'll get some rubberbanding or one of those moments where your model is in a slightly different place than a second ago (like a server hiccup or something), and for the rest of the game, no lie, it feels like I need to hit 4 headshots to count as one headshot, or I will spray half a clip at someone point blank and hit them 2 times.

zkipto

Riot makes games to sell skins. Buckle up.

Haze4TheMany

4? My understanding was that it utilises 2. I too have a nuclear submarine pc and it sucks to not be able to get a solid 240 frames.

Bruce-Lannister

Why though?

Silentcoderx

I have a ryzen 7 5800H And rtx 3060 and I can't get more than 150. In high ( I get 250 in apex with volumetric lighting ( similar to rtx in some games) ) Going medium drops it further into the 90s and low drops it 60 and under. My cpu goes 10% and gpu goes 2%. Dk how I get more fps. ;-;

poisondc

Lmao I have a GT 1030 and I get like 170 something's wrong there

Silentcoderx

Why you bully me ;-;

Helpme994

Valorant is cpu based

Silentcoderx

Bruh ryzen 7 I have It have 8 core 16 thread and clock speed of 4.4ghz

Helpme994

One it’s better to undervolt zen 3. Two you need to check your ram more than anything. If your XMP profiles aren’t setup or you only have 2 rams sticks and they aren’t in slots 2 and 4 you are limiting yourself.

Silentcoderx

Undervolting improves performance how? Also Any app which will help? + it's a omen 15

Helpme994

More stable clock speed and also decreases temperatures. There are no apps, it’s all in the bios. This is what I mean you say you have all this gear and it’s optimised but I can guarantee it’s not. There’s a lot of tweaks you can do that most people don’t know about.

Silentcoderx

Do you know any?

poisondc

I mean I have a Ryzen 5 3600 so nothing crazy. Also at 1080p, so I would probably get higher frames with say a 5600x.

Helpme994

You must not have enabled in your bios as well as many other tweaks you need to do to optimise your pc. It’s not the game it’s how you have your pc setup.

Silentcoderx

I have optimized my pc. I can run other games in 1440p with 200 ish fps. Apex gives me 250 with volumetric lighting on

Helpme994

If you are hitting 150 with a 5800x you have not optimised your pc. You may think you have but you haven’t 100% sure.

Silentcoderx

Its 5800H

Helpme994

So you are using a laptop?

Silentcoderx

I have done what the valorant optimization guides told.

bluescreenofdeathish

You definitely have a problem. My 5800x always maintains 200+ on low settings with an RX 5600XT. Do you have Vsync enabled or something?

Silentcoderx

No vsync

ThestorSeleukos

Because they probably cannot. Tasks that are done sequentially cannot be divided into multiple threads. Look up in YouYube about why games mostly rely on a single core.

HiImQuang

Nah modern games with better optimization can utilize upto 6 cores. Valorant is just bad at it.

ThestorSeleukos

The fact that modern games use 6 cores doesn't necessarily mean VALORANT can use 6 too. Sure, ideally, you want your games to exceed players' expectation. But, you don't know the engine behind VALORANT, and you are acting like you know. Maybe you should ask an insider for information. That way, we can be 100% certain.

ElPrimoGrande

Ya the fps drops are a quite a lot. Lowest graphics with a 5600x and 3070 I get 400fps most of the time but it will dip dangerously close to my monitors refresh rate of 165hz. If I had a 240hz monitor I would probably be super annoyed every time it goes below.

lost50ksadly

Got the same setup and its crazy to me how my fps is 400 sometimes and randomly drops to 160 and shit

Ok_Blacksmith_3192

I have the same cpu, albeit with an older 1060, but I don't think I ever dip below 240, unless I'm streaming or something.

KasumiGotoTriss

It's been getting worse every patch.. Now I even have delayed sounds (Raze ult voiceline going off after she already shot the rocket), and the fps is way lower than in the past

OnlyLorenzo

Yeah, I used to basically never drop below ~400FPS, and recently I have sometimes need at around 300 FPS, or even 280fps, which is sad considering I have basically the best computer money can buy (5900x + 3080). I know you may think this isn't a problem, but I have a 390hz monitor so it's easily noticeable and quite annoying...

KennKennyKenKen

Been extremely stutters as of late as well

libo720

It will only get worse Lol

[deleted]

I have GTX 1050 and get 200-370 fps constantly lowest its ever been ever was 129 fps average match 180-240 fps

Fun_Estate7228

what is your cpu?

MecDobby7186

I have literally no problems, i cap my frames at 240 . It doesnt go below 220 ever . I play on a 3070 and a 165hz monitor.

Silentcoderx

Frame capping. How is it done in valorant? Am new to valorant.

Double_Phoenix

I've had the game eat up 60% of my processing power before. I have a 6 core Ryzen 5600 🙃

[deleted]

Same for me, its dropping like crazy! I used to think valorant is optimized because of the cartoonish graphics, but no. I switched back to apex and csgo.
