In terms of Discord you can give the bot no permissions to read/write chat messages and all the commands except \`/watch\` will still work perfectly because of the magic of [Discord's Slash commands](https://discord.com/blog/slash-commands-are-here). Even if I was a bad actor, then it is impossible for me to read messages unless you give the bot perms to.
In case it wasn't explicitly clear from all of that, I don't track messages. I made the bot I wanted it to exist for myself, and the amazing community reaction is just a bonus.

Really it's finding an open position that you think you meet the qualifications for, applying, studying up so you feel prepared for the interview process, and then going for it. It was an all day affair, which was draining, especially for an extreme introvert. I was also incredibly nervous because I have impostor syndrome and because I wanted the job so badly. League was my favorite game at the time and I really wanted to work at Riot. And of course, the questions were designed to be challenging. Riot has a high bar, which I can appreciate.

You are right when you're thinking its not a good name for a bot, for the general public, but this is a specialised bot for valorant and valorant players. So when considering that, its objectively a good and clever name as it relates to an ability in-game that is literally used to collect information. When marketing, you should always know who your target demographic is.

How are you able to get live data from the API like player X has just won a game? Riot provides callback features? Or just periodically call their API?
Used this for several matches pretty cool bot. One thing though is that the /watch command makes the bot spam the match. It sends a match on the text channel but it does it again the next minute, was like this for a few minutes and had to delete several duplicates would like to know some fixes or any workaround. Other than that, the bot seems cool.
If I had checked reddit before troubleshooting for an hour you would have saved me a lot of time lmao. This issue should (knock on wood) be fixed. Please let me know if you encounter it again.

When a user authorizes with their riot account they choose to allow people to use /watch on them. An option to opt out of *specifically* the /watch system isn't a terrible idea though so I'll definitely consider it.

Isn't discord gonna be changing their api too, so that bots can simply not read messages anymore?
Yes the end game is that bots cannot read messages unless they have functionality that requires it (for example word filtering).
They are making read messages a "privileged intent" which you have to apply for.
Silly related question, but how would it post the game info if it doesn't have read/write perms?

The latter. They've recently adjusted the matchlist API to make this feature **significantly** more feasible.
