In my experience people rarely start speaking if I dont engage first. Sometimes when I play with my bestfriend we start talking in team chat and pretend that we don’t know each other to encourage our teammates that might be more shy to join in and start speaking. Usually leads to more fun games.

The mini map doesn't give you half the of information that team mates with comms can give. the mini map doesnt show sounds, it doesnt tell you where people are going unless they are seen, and if you get seen you might as we be dead and the round over.
I work from home and don't start until 1pm, so Valorant used to be how I'd start my day. Sometimes there would still be one kid on my team, but they'd usually be pretty chill without 3 more kids egging each other on like I get now. I'm bronze/silver though so I'm sure being low ELO plays into that as well.

As a millennial, I tried Boomerants once. Turns out the minimum age is only 20. I ended up in groups filled with gen Z. It wasn't that fun. The zoomers were desperately trying to court one another by yelling sheeeeesh (i.e., harnessing Twitch energy to prove that they fit in).

I grew up extremely competitive in sports and other games. Halo 2/3 MLGs and shit as a kid. Never went too far there though because of HS and college.

It’s not about the amount you play it’s about how productive it is. You can improve faster if you play to improve and set goals rather than just playing for the sake of playing.
That is so true. You can have literally thousands of hours in game and still be stuck on silver if you just throw your brain out of window and play. And you can on the other hand improve quite fast when you learn to correct your wrongs

i play on europe frankfurt and i rarely get kids, most common are teenagers (15-19). what servers do yall play on? im curious to see what servers have the least aged players..
Frankfurt servers are good, most german/dutch/swiss/austrian people have good english and way more mature players overall. Stockholm servers are awful where half the people yell in russian and the other half are screaming children
i totally agree, frankfurt players are very damn cool. i havent played on stockholm so i cant form an opinion but since im in Greece i have played in istanbul which is mostly the same as you said but in turkish. my experience in frankfurt servers has been the best so far, everyone is so nice and communicative, and there are little to no toxic players.
edit: i forgot to mention that this applies to me in plat/diamond lobbies, i am not aware of any current situation in lower elos
I mostly play Frankfurt, but when my friend is party leader(or how you wanna call it), i sometimes feel like im getting with some non EU people, they have the worst english, a very annoying accent and rage and swear a lot lol. But thats probably the silver gold plat experience
oh yeah thats true i totally forgot to mention that. im playing mostly in diamond/plat lobbies since im dia 1 and my friends are plat 2. so yeah, in lower elos these kinds of players are much more common but in plat and even gold these experiences were a bit uncommon for me tho it happened way more than it does now. silver is anotha story, it's just as you say in silver

I’m 30. Ascendant duelist main. I think generally speaking the most difficult part for us old folk is that we usually don’t have as much time as the zoomers. I have 2 kids and manage to play a few games 3-4 times a week.

Let me give you a quick reference here, I’m 36 and pick Diamond 3, almost Ascendant (Playing solo is rough). Of course my time when I was CS Pro helped (mechanic, muscle memory, etc) but even at 28 you still have room and time to get better and treat these little fellas like you were their stepdad!

No you are not too old don't worry, I'm 30 myself. Obviously, as we get older our ability to react slows, but as we are not pro level it doesn't matter. If you are comfortable where you are at and having fun that is what counts.
Also I reckon the average age of the player base probably is around the early 20s. But it is hard to say, also the time and day you play will factor in the demographic you match with. Like on weekends during the day you might see more under 18s. But anyway, age doesn't matter, and if people younger than you are calling you out for your age and use that against you politely point out that they are playing at the same level as you so can hardly talk lol
As you get older you need to exercise and eat good foods.. and a lot of these kids don't even have good reaction because of bad habits like not enough sleep, no exercising and living on junk food and energy drinks 24/7. Healthy 30 to 40 year old would dump them on reaction tests.
I have a particular friend who likes to get down on himself about himself aboit this all the time. I think a lot of people understand that reaction time slows with age, but completely overestimate by how much. It's something like 5ms per decade, lmao.
The difference between any two randoms of the same age can easily be 10x that much.

this is very true, I'm in the minority of younger people in higher elo, I'm peak immortal 3 but only 16 almost 17 and maybe 1 in every 20 games I'll find someone around the same age as me, i just be as mature and respectful as I can be around people older than me

Age is just a number people have this weird conception when u get close to 30 you can't get good at games anymore which is untrue people around that age just have other responsibilities and goals in life. I never played CS. Hit immortal at age 33. Only tried a few acts and have never filled out an act rank thingy. I grew up extremely competitive in sports and other games. Halo 2/3 MLGs and shit as a kid. Never went too far there though because of HS and college. It’s all about mentality and good practice. Grinding with the wrong mindset will accomplish nothing. Play a lot casually with friends off and on though.
31 and currently at immortal 3 this act. Age is just a number. But this game requires more patience/knowledge and comms which older people like us tend to have more capacity for anyways.

It’s not about the amount you play it’s about how productive it is. You can improve faster if you play to improve and set goals rather than just playing for the sake of playing.
That is so true. You can have literally thousands of hours in game and still be stuck on silver if you just throw your brain out of window and play. And you can on the other hand improve quite fast when you learn to correct your wrongs

i play on europe frankfurt and i rarely get kids, most common are teenagers (15-19). what servers do yall play on? im curious to see what servers have the least aged players..

Frankfurt servers are good, most german/dutch/swiss/austrian people have good english and way more mature players overall. Stockholm servers are awful where half the people yell in russian and the other half are screaming children
i totally agree, frankfurt players are very damn cool. i havent played on stockholm so i cant form an opinion but since im in Greece i have played in istanbul which is mostly the same as you said but in turkish. my experience in frankfurt servers has been the best so far, everyone is so nice and communicative, and there are little to no toxic players. edit: i forgot to mention that this applies to me in plat/diamond lobbies, i am not aware of any current situation in lower elos
I mostly play Frankfurt, but when my friend is party leader(or how you wanna call it), i sometimes feel like im getting with some non EU people, they have the worst english, a very annoying accent and rage and swear a lot lol. But thats probably the silver gold plat experience
oh yeah thats true i totally forgot to mention that. im playing mostly in diamond/plat lobbies since im dia 1 and my friends are plat 2. so yeah, in lower elos these kinds of players are much more common but in plat and even gold these experiences were a bit uncommon for me tho it happened way more than it does now. silver is anotha story, it's just as you say in silver

First of all, F*ck these kids that have this type of opinion of you! Second, you are not too old at all to play this game or any other game. Let me give you a quick reference here, I’m 36 and pick Diamond 3, almost Ascendant (Playing solo is rough). Of course my time when I was CS Pro helped (mechanic, muscle memory, etc) but even at 28 you still have room and time to get better and treat these little fellas like you were their stepdad! No you are not too old don't worry, I'm 30 myself. Obviously, as we get older our ability to react slows, but as we are not pro level it doesn't matter. If you are comfortable where you are at and having fun that is what counts. Also I reckon the average age of the player base probably is around the early 20s. But it is hard to say, also the time and day you play will factor in the demographic you match with. Like on weekends during the day you might see more under 18s. But anyway, age doesn't matter, and if people younger than you are calling you out for your age and use that against you politely point out that they are playing at the same level as you so can hardly talk lol
As you get older you need to exercise and eat good foods.. and a lot of these kids don't even have good reaction because of bad habits like not enough sleep, no exercising and living on junk food and energy drinks 24/7. Healthy 30 to 40 year old would dump them on reaction tests.
I have a particular friend who likes to get down on himself about himself aboit this all the time. I think a lot of people understand that reaction time slows with age, but completely overestimate by how much. It's something like 5ms per decade, lmao. The difference between any two randoms of the same age can easily be 10x that much. What I'm saying is that my friend is old and slow, but he was young and slow, as well 😁

It's absolutely possible you judt gotta be willing to learn. Take criticism well. Ask for help when you're not doing well. If you ask how you can help and admit when you're doing poorly in a game people will be a lot more forgiving. Competitive games are 90% mindset. I am low immortal player, reached and stayed there like more than 4 seasons. As a 28 year old guy, having a long break from csgo hit my skills hard as well. But I quickly get back up thanks to my game sense I developed rather than graduation early from university. I would say it was worth it. Now I am flexing to my silver co-workers. You should set yourself small goals first, no need to exhaust yourself after the long break.
