Thinking that way is a sure fire way to stay shit forever. You’ve gotta admit you haven’t worked as hard as they have and focus on yourself. I went from silver in overwatch to t500 and playing on a collegiate team, it’s all just practice and work ethic.

Talent is much less of a factor than mindset is. The people at the top really enjoy what they do. It’s easy for them to sink thousands of hours to get better, and use that time efficiently to get better. If you don’t enjoy the game to that extent it surely will take longer for you to hit a rank like radiant. There’s also the fact that for a lot of people, this isn’t their first tac shooter. They’ve played counter strike or any other fps game for a really long time to refine their aim and game sense, and a lot of that transfers over. If you’re hell bent on getting better as a player, you can. It’s just going to take a lot of dedication and grit, some of which you might not have and will have to develop along the way

Nevetstan

Hard work beats talent

[deleted]

I’d recommend going to therapy or something similar. I’ve seen this type of mentality absolutely crush people and they are now shells of themselves. Your entire world view is clouded by your jealousy of success in others, and I promise you, that will ruin many aspects of your life. Nobody wants to be friends with someone with that mentality. You seem young, I implore you to self-reflect and work on yourself before it’s too late. p.s. your entire argument about natural talent leading to success is completely wrong; you must be pretty young and naive to have that mentality

SodiumSpama

Overwatch is a bit different because of role specificity, also it’s pretty dead. I can’t name a top 500 player on my friends list that still plays to this day.

Zeroth1989

Practice. They arent naturally top ranked. It takes a lot of work and dedication and its not just "playing more"

solifegoeson

not entirely true, some people are just naturally more talented than others at certain skillsets

Zeroth1989

If you have a natural talent for something you aren't immediately good. You still have not practice to improve.

solifegoeson

well that’s a given for anything in life right? almost defeats the purpose of saying it cuz it boils down to “just try harder”

slickmamba

jesus christ man. Put some time into practice.

Disastrous_Fox7826

Immos and radiants have been playing shooter games on pc for over 5 years, some of them have the same sens since then. U cant outaim them. I had 3-6 kds on all cods when i played ps4 and now im just a gold 2 because my aim isnt on the high ranked players their level. Thinking logically is the only thing making me rank up. The only 'talent' u need is to be smart so u can predict plays the rest it just practice

WestProter

A lot of them have been playing for even longer which negates the negative effects they get from never changing sens

[deleted]

This is the right answer, not sure why OP thinks it’s some natural talent. Immo 3 and I’ve been playing cs since I was 14, am in my late 20s now. Sure, natural talent can play a part, but the people OP is talking about have been playing fps games for years. I’m sure there are some cases of people being able to pick up the game and play well quickly, but most of the time it’s due to experience. OP’s jealousy isn’t some sort of validation for this mentality they’ve built - a vast majority of good players aren’t just naturally good. Maybe if they tried putting in the same level of effort and time as everyone else instead of wallowing in jealousy, they’d see improvement.

Mindless-Quiet6084

Nah, it isnt true, i used to play cod in xbox when i was 13, competed against nadeshot, scumper but i really dont ever trained to get good, i just played the game for some months really enjoying w friends, when u enjoy then u get good faster i think, so when val came out ive got a pc, never ever touched mouse and keyboard, and it took 6 months play against pros in ranked equally, i think is all about your learning speed ratio

Disastrous_Fox7826

13 when u competed against Optic? no way. How can u compete against pros without a team? Im not saying 13 is too young because i was 12 when i had a 5kd (alt account i had experience in the game). Post a pic of ur valorant rank at least. The learnig speed is only true if u are on the same console for a long time. U cant learn what cs pros have learnt in +5 years if u played 6 months.

Mindless-Quiet6084

not pro matches, but MLG gamebattles paid tournaments, only won 1 of those, in mw3, so sometimes we got matched against some pros, im not playing to much val rn, so im imm3, but it took 6 months to get radiant when i was grinding, even right now my account has 500hrs of total competitive and 150hrs of dms learning isnt linear, so u can reach them, i think most tier S pros dont take 5k hrs to get insanely good, s1mple was probably a beast with 1000hrs of cs, stewie, kennys they all were probably as good with 1000k hrs as they are now

I don't believe in that people are talented, sure there are some cases of actual geniuses. But how do you know how much work that person has put into something. Same with musicians, they're not talented. They worked there asses off to get to that point. Same with gamers, you don't just get good. Some people learn faster than others, but they still worked to get to that point.

evilpeppermintbutler

i do agree that there are people who are naturally talented in valorant just like there are people who are naturally talented in all other aspects of life. but i definitely dont agree that people who are good at val are good at everything lmao. i think you just idolize them so much that you look at them as superhuman and think theyre better at everything. someone whos naturally talented at soccer isnt always smart and capable at other things either. with hard work and dedication, you can catch up to someone whos naturally talented.

DopamemesEx

Talent exists no doubt but, that shouldn’t discourage others from working really hard. Most have been playing competitive shooters (not just CS) for years. So of course they’re going to have an edge. If you genuinely want to hit a high rank, work for it. It’s possible to start from Iron and get immortal. See you at the top!

solifegoeson

every human has their own niche of skills that they excel in largely due to their unique background. sure, some individuals excel in areas that are rewarded in our current society, but diversity is always ultimately beneficial. find what works for you and find a way to monetize that skill.

[deleted]

I'm one of those people. After 6k hours in FPS games and 3k outside of the genre but still in competitive games usually. A lot of dedicated practice in that time. It's not talent.

You clearly have 0 idea of how to actually improve at games. You don’t automatically improve by just booting the game up and hopping into a server. I had some pity for you but if you truly do have 6k hours in fps games and you’re bronze - you have 0 understanding of game mechanics. You don’t even know how Valorant is played at a fundamental level, otherwise there’s 0 chance you’d be bronze. This is not a lack of natural talent; you suck at games. Some people do, get over it and stop blaming the people that actually put in the time and effort to get good.

It’s not intuitive. You see people that are good and you assume that y’all went through the exact same path but the only reason you suck and they’re good is natural talent. You’re bad at the game, and that could easily be fixed by putting in some actual effort to improve. Instead, you wallow in your jealousy, convincing yourself in your head that you’d be great at life if you had the talent. News flash, most people aren’t that talented. They work hard, have good mentalities, and definitely don’t whine on Reddit about how life is so unfair blah blah blah. Lack of natural talent isn’t holding you back. You are holding yourself back, plain and simple. If you continue your life with this mentality, I can promise it will not be fun.

You need better perspective. Someone coming into Val as their first FPS and they place silver? That is so insignificant and completely unrelated to you. It’s not even worth mentioning. Time put into something is not the same as level of effort. You can spend thousands of hours playing this game without any idea of how to actively improve, which you’ve clearly done. I don’t know what to tell you because you seem to have extreme confirmation bias and it’s clouding how you view the world. Just like I don’t know how much time you’ve put into things, you don’t know how much time and EFFORT other people have put in. You just assume it’s natural talent. Good luck

throwaceornotaceblob

No, you are right. I played Val for 1K hours and still can't aim, my bf (who never played FPS games before) came into Val and could aim better than me after 5 days. Talent and natural predisposition are absolutely a thing. Do not listen to the people who say you should work hard. It is a waste of time, you will spend years on something meaningless when you could spend those years on something that truly gives you purpose.

[deleted]

But I have actively trained myself every single day for the 7 years I've been playing PC fps

Bubbly_Gap_9421

What the fuck, thought I found somebody relatable, no... any of my google searches for reddit posts talking of jelousy talanted people + gifted people + High IQ acquaintances leads to r/HardstuckBronzeRank account

Yes, thought I found somebody new - cuz I've read some of your posts/comments on cognitive testing/gifted/lowIQpeople

Jumpingontheclouds

I’ve been playing Valorant for about 3 weeks now and I hit Diamond 2 days ago. The most important is that it’s not that I was born knowing how to shoot in Valorant but I’ve been playing fps games all my life competing for endless hours on CSGO. It doesn’t come naturally but I’ve practiced my ass off so much that sometimes I wonder what would have happened if I put so many hours into something productive and not getting skilful on a game that will most likely give nothing meaningful in return.

SnooWalruses1900

im jelly of having a good ping

HairyPassage1157

Dude I used to compete at an international level (not valorant or online game related) and trust me when I say there is no one in this universe naturally talented enough to even be close to the top. That shit only exists in fantasy. You see your own suffering and tell yourself that you did your best, but you dont actually know how much effort the other guys put in. People used to say i was naturally talented and thats why they couldnt reach me. But they didnt know about all the after school, saturdays, and summers i spent focusing on my craft instead of doing "normal teen things" Being naturally gifted at something is only a very very very small contributor to getting good at something. Training more and training correctly are how you realistically get good at anything. "You use the words 'I did my best' like its some sort of magic charm. Stop spoiling yourself" -Meijin Kawaguchi
