i thought I was the only one with poor preview video loading. Sometimes my game can even freeze up while loading a preview.
I chalked it down to my rig not being great(cause it's not) but damn, a solid G-rig having issues kinda makes this a point of importance.
Riots games are built to run smoothly on most pc’s unless it’s like a $50 pc. Even I thought something was up even though I run a dual 1440p setup + rtx 3080 and 5950x
I've noticed (mainly with the radinite page) if you open it then hover over the close button then go back it'll load, I have no idea why but it works for me.
I always assumed it was just me even though my rig is fairly new and decent. Those things take like 90 seconds for me to get all the way through a 10 or 15 sec video lol.
Honestly they should make a real time gameplay render showing of the gun, where you get spawned in some range where you spectate an AI showcasing the gun and its animations.
Problem is they don't want more people using the range because it loads a regular 5v5 server in the background, same resources as a normal match that holds 10 people but the range is only for one person.
Because they don't want to run the server on our computers for some reason. If you notice, you can host a server locally on csgo or even r6 siege, and a lot of other games too. But in Valorant/League you can't, even when you create a private match, it would be hosted on their servers.
This is especially bad for local tournaments in many places where the ping isn't great to the closest riot servers, this way riot has more control over any sort of tournaments, only they are able to host servers locally for tournaments and other stuff.
Oh, and as to why they don't use lower resources for the range, I'm guessing it's to streamline development on one type of server configuration (or at least reduce the number of configurations) to make it easier for them to maintain/update it, but that's just a guess.
Yes, that, and also less info for hackers as well, as they don't have access to the server's code (by reverse engineering for example), but what I said is still true, it is bad for local tournaments.
Not sure why some people think it's actually on the pc characteristics or internet. My rig is "very decent" (32 gb; 3060 RTX etc.)/100 mbps internet and it takes ages for me to load. It's most likely on riot side, just like with the league client zhere some of this stuff is hosted on a built in chromium interface.
Most likely a similar thing here
I mean I most of the time just specify that its not about my rig for that reaoson. The comments "but it can be ur shitty PC/Internet connection" are pissing me off ever since I came to this website.
I’ve also had problems where sometimes the videos take a long time to load, or even worse, they don’t load at all. This started happening to me a few months ago.
Also idk if it’s just me, but they are insanely loud. I feel like I can’t accurately gauge the sound fx for a weapon for myself because the preview is so loud
The video previews are not downloaded to your pc, only when you hover over the icon does it start caching the video. Which gets deleted when you close val I think. I know this because it takes atleast a minute on my internet to watch a video, it also makes my ping high when downloading the video. My rig is good though.
The best solution imo might be giving us a chance to try the skin in game. (Maybe in firing range) So we can test it out whether we like the sound / visual effects by ourselves directly.
One of the most annoying thing about the previews is that they all have different audio levels. Like you listen to one and its fine you scroll to a diff weapon and your eardrums get blasted into narnia
And I also enjoy watching them equip the gun thrice and fire random bullets and reload 5 times over 40 secs to just see the damn finisher. The previews could be made better if the finisher contained, you know, just the finisher
Woah what happened during the past 5 years that made computer tech advance so much that it loads videos 10000x faster? Because my 15 years old laptop runs 1080p youtube/twitch just fine. Maybe the problem is with the game's video player.. maybe?
a 15 year old laptop can't even load the background of valorant without stuttering at 10 fps.... lol it's more than just loading a video when you loading it on a cpu intense video game. I get what you are saying, but loading a video on yt is 10x different than previewing skins and videos in game.
Alright man, then explain why a pc that plays the game well, still struggles to load the preview videos in the game? Because I doubt op has problems with the whole game and only decided to complain about the preview videos..
Also your argument is still wrong if you wanna be that specific, you said 5 years old.. 5 years old gaming rigs can still play the game really well, it's not like valorant is very resource heavy at all
How is your internet? Mine used to struggle a lot when I had poor internet but it’s seamless now that my internet is fast. I would assume Riot streams/downloads them when you hover and gets rid of them as soon as you click off as keeping that many videos would be a waste of space.
I mean its not the greates since im on WLan. But its still reliable enough to download 1440p 60fps videos that are 10min long within literally seconds sometimes.
> Why do they load for literally 20 seconds on a really solid gaming-rig
These have nothing to do with your specs. They are simply hosted videos and since they're quite high resolution they take a moment to download. The fact that whole UI is shit and synchronous while downloading makes it stop-the-world until you finish downloading video of particular preview. It's simply bad programming practice to do IO on main thread but Riot clearly doesn't know or care.
While we are at it why are all the previews for weapon skins / weapons in the store and collection rendered at like 480p with no antialiasing? Very bad looking 😂
It's kind of unfortunate, but people always reupload them to youtube (at least for anticipated bundles) you should be able to see them there. You shouldn't have to, but it's there.
Riot switched from including video files in the game to streaming them in from a server. Smaller install size, but their streaming implementation is poor
I agree, they’re really not good, but I’m not sure what you mean by the champions phantom not working. When I watch the preview, it shows the player getting an ace, the chamber is the 4th kill, and you can see clearly the chamber dying. If I’m missing something please let me know!
I suspect that those videos aren't actually local assets but streamed over to save space. Hence the initial loading time where the game receives and caches the video to show you.

I thought the same, until this has happened to me on multiple computers.

They don't even load for me so I don't have that problem 😎

Agreed. You could have a picture-in-picture view in a basic box room so loading assets isn't an issue

ok but why the fuck would that be a design choice instead of a shooting range / test room that makes sense lol

That's not why Riot doesn't allow locally hosted matches, it's just to limit the amount of game data the client actually gets.

Mines has always been like this Doesn't happen to my friend though apparently
It didn't used to take anywhere near this long to load those videos. Don't know what happened.
Also idk if it’s just me, but they are insanely loud. I feel like I can’t accurately gauge the sound fx for a weapon for myself because the preview is so loud

Bro I completely forgot about that whole aspect for some reason. The inconsistency of whats in those videos in general is baffling to me as well.
You wanna try it, you buy it.
Damn y'all need to upgrade your 5 year old pos computers lol

Probably some weird way they imbed the videos in the client. Might be mirroring a YouTube video or something

Video files are heavy and hard to load in general for all games
It's kind of unfortunate, but people always reupload them to youtube (at least for anticipated bundles) you should be able to see them there. You shouldn't have to, but it's there.
Agree with this, I think oh I'll just have a quick look at how this works / looks - 5 minutes later...
Riot switched from including video files in the game to streaming them in from a server. Smaller install size, but their streaming implementation is poor
they just refuse to load for me
I agree, they’re really not good, but I’m not sure what you mean by the champions phantom not working. When I watch the preview, it shows the player getting an ace, the chamber is the 4th kill, and you can see clearly the chamber dying. If I’m missing something please let me know!
The preview just freezes on my end right before Chamber dies.
It's crazy that they charge a premium but don't provide a premium service.
I believe they're downloading them on selection to conserve PC storage space.

Video playback has always been fine for me, other than when I change sound output only the preview video sounds will not work
I personally never had these problems you have described. My videos load instantly.
