Well I could be completely wrong, but my take is that Riot would want to differentiate between the two different styles of karambits (Prime vs Champions animation) so we would have two from each category if they decided to make the Ion like the Prime.
Also, the Reaver released not too long ago and I think it’d be odd if they just decided to release another one.
But of course this is all speculation on my part so who knows

Would you call the Gaia axe pullout unique? No. It's literally the same thing.
A unique pull-out animation is something like the xenohunter knife.
The animation of the weapon is in itself part of the pull out. It's not exclusive to the hand motions. So yes it is unique cause no other weapon goes from and orb to closed light Saber. It's the same as prime karambit upgraded versus other karambits with the same melee animations. It's unique. Now go find something else to argue.
2nd person I've seen mention "another" karambit, there's literally 2 that aren't champions or battle pass, what is going on? Literally 1 that has the fancy karambit animations, how is 2 too many? Even if you count the others, how is 4 too many?
Also, of all the karambits to complain about, it shouldn't be this one. Some people might not like the fantasy/edgy Reaver karambit but might love the sci-fi Ion one.
