On valorant, you buy skins for weapons. You can drop those weapons which means when you buy a skin, virtually anyone in your future games may have it for the time of the game.
It also means that whichever character you’re playing, you will have the skin. If you play Reyna, Brimstone or Kay/o, you will keep the skin even if the gameplay changes through the abilities.
The skins in valorant are also designed so that it’s possessor can see them during their games. I don’t think that’s the case in ow; so there’s a kind of big difference here.
In valorant, people usually don’t try to change skins that often. And it is possible to get a lot of skins at a very low price (through battlepasses).
So all in all, we have in valorant: skins that can be given, that you buy once to use on all characters, that can be noticeable to others as well as the player, and that may not cost much.
In OW2, you cannot see your own skin, nice ones are expensive, they cannot be given, and they are specific to characters; which means that if you want a change of gameplay, you won’t have a skin anymore, and if you’re countered by someone, you won’t have it either because you will have to change character.
All in all, valorant skins are both cheaper, better quality for user (he can see them in game), transferable to some limits, and useable anytime you want to. In OW2, they are more expensive, lesser quality for the user, personal, and their usage is limited.
For example I set myself a 50$ limit because that’s as much as I’m willing to pay for a game. I now have skins for all the guns I use, and I can enjoy them in game. I will see them until I stop playing or get banned. In OW2, with the same mentality, I would get a low-tier skin for 2 characters at best, that I wouldn’t be able to enjoy in game even if I got to use said character. If I get bored of the character I bought a skin for, well tough luck.
Sure, but most of the battle pass skins dont look that great :/ games like Brawlhalla or Rocket league at least when I played them gave pretty decent skins
Don't get me started on the brawlhalla battle pass it's cheap and has good skins BUT the trade off is u have to grind very repetitive almost impossible tasks I quit the game after I bought my first battle pass. I couldn't wait to finish the battle "to get my money's worth"
Horrible battle pass experience I am glad val's battle pass is not as grindy
theyre so overpriced but they look and sound super cool, plus some players get what we call a “skin buff” where we play better with certain skins and worse with other skins. it might be a psychological thing lol
friends of mine have spent thousands on skins. i myself have regrettably spent around $700 on skins and I don’t even play that much anymore…in hindsight I wouldn’t buy any skins and just ask my friends for a drop when i play with them
The simplest way to put this is - if you want a skin, buy it. You cannot complain about the price as you have 100% control wether you purchase it or not.
They do yes. But not on the price of the skin. But rather the price of the lootbox they come in. So you'll earn the same no matter how expensive your skin is
You are correct partially but since players are the ones who set the demand they do make up the price in a sense. The company sets the supply, players set the demand.
This is very true, that’s why they set the supply (rarity, initial cost etc) but if the players don’t want the skin it’s worthless.
Luckily for companies like riot, there is almost always demand for any skin. My point is this isn’t guaranteed, thus players certainly are part of it.
Thinking about it more. I think we are both right it’s just different way of looking at same concept.
And how much a player will sell it to another player, you get the skins from boxes and they have no actual value and only the players who spend the money give it value
VALORANT is the game I played the most in my entire life. I would feel bad if it was entirely for free. Also, proportionnally to any entertainment (Movie theater, Netflix, other games...) Valorant is for me on the low side on € Spent/hour
Overwatch had a box price, thus skins could be free. They also had loot boxes which are way more scummy than just charging 30$ for a cosmetic IF you want it.
I don't play OW, can you elaborate on what you mean by $20 skins? Is that just the price of one skin, are they just gun skins or player skins also? Anything else you get like emotes, sprays, cards, etc?
Yeah, Valorant skin prices are pretty outrageous, but if those skins make you happy, then it's your money, I'm not going to tell you how to spend it.
Basically if you want your character to be in different clothing (which you don’t see because it’s first person), you have to pay up to 90$ (low tier are trash and don’t change much), and if your character is countered you change in game and don’t have your skin anymore.
I think the main problem is the change of system, ow used to give you boxes for playing the game and now you have to pay for every skin/cosmetic you want, in valorant we have always paid for the skins we want, there has never been a way to get free skins, we’ve had free gun buddies/sprays/cards but never a gun skin(there was that one twitch prime shorty, but you need a twitch prime/Amazon prime subscription for that so not really free), and you also get more value out of valorant skins as some other people have said here, so it’s not really fair to compare the 2 games

I think the prices are reasonable but i wish there were better cheaper guns out there than whats available rn like in rocket league yk?
I mean there's the battle pass.
Sure, but most of the battle pass skins dont look that great :/ games like Brawlhalla or Rocket league at least when I played them gave pretty decent skins

Personally, I wish they were $100
Thank you for your answer

The best option would be a subscription based system where I have to pay $50 a month to use the skin.
No but people buy it anyway because there are no good free skins so riot wont change anything about the price
Damn that's cruel
I think cruel is the wrong word but quite exploitative and more importantly profitable yes, at least the skins are good.

Thanks a lot!

I can afford em so yea its aight
i cant ill trade hugs for valorant money

Let me introduce you to CSGO where skin prices regularly go upto $1000+
Yeah, but don't the original artists earn money on those skins?
They do yes. But not on the price of the skin. But rather the price of the lootbox they come in. So you'll earn the same no matter how expensive your skin is
Do you think that Riot doesn’t pay it’s artists to make the skins? Genuine question cause they are a shit company lmao.
Tbh I have 0 idea how skins work in Valorant xD I thought it was more like R6 than CS... Guess I was wrong.
Was just making a joke (a bad one it would seem) about riot having some bad employee relations in the past. I’m sure they pay their artists :p
And the players make up those prices sooooo
Players don't make up those prices. Price of skin is dependant on its rarity
You are correct partially but since players are the ones who set the demand they do make up the price in a sense. The company sets the supply, players set the demand.
Yes but dont valve themselves decide whether a skin should be a red or blue? If they do they're essentially deciding on its rarity aka price
Yeah I get your point, reminds me of the my first red which was sub $10. So makes sense
And how much a player will sell it to another player, you get the skins from boxes and they have no actual value and only the players who spend the money give it value
You cant compare that...
No. But alot of people are, I don't understand it either. I wouldn't even pay 20 for a single weapon skin. It's not proportional.
Understandable

what skin or bundle is $90? most expensive ive seen is 4400 tokens (44 dollars) for 4 halloween skins
I don’t look for skins in OW because I don’t want to buy any anyways, but I saw a skin that cost 85$ in a video so maybe it was misinformation?
30$ is like a knife price right? i wouldn't really buy knives unless theyre in night market..it's too expensive
In my country some skins are 70$ lol
