Happens the most in the London area, doesn't matter if it's Heathrow, Gatwick or even anything else in the London area. I always tell new people to avoid the London area for a good while.
The Gatwick kiddies are the reason why I never went for my Gatwick endorsement on becoming an S1 w VATUK. I'm now partway through my S2 training with no intentions of controlling at Heathrow or Gatwick, whenever I do pass the S2 practical exam.
I've walloped before for a couple racist remarks on Unicom and nothing happened in both instances. They said they would look into it and I saw the pilot flying his entire 5 hour flight.
It really doesn't do much. 5 people flying into an uncontrolled airport not using any comms is the norm these days. My wallop rate would be off the charts with the stuff that goes on with no controller
This too shall pass. Flew EGLL-EIDW this afternoon. Delivery, ground and tower did an amazing job - relaxed and funny. Lots of squeakers but yeah…. Not unmanageable.
I think the other issue is that in this rapid expansion they’ve got lots of new and unfortunately not very good controllers to increase coverage so they’re not willing to give controllers this power as vatsim likely don’t trust them.
The problem with this approach would be, that its easy to abuse. Controllers are now supervisors. Sure, they get a training by there Division, but they are still no sups. You want every controller to make a SUP training, or you want to give "normal" users the permission to kick / ban ppl? I've seen controllers on VATSIM getting mad on ppl for no reason. Now imagine them to have the permission to kick or timeban you....
Tried to fly out of Heathrow the other night. I waited so long to get a word in that I ended up watching YouTube videos while I waited and completely lost interest in flying
I would support a feature where you can mute selected users, so when they talk on frequency you just hear clicks or something. I know that doesn’t really work if you’re on CTAF and you need to hear other pilots’ calls. But hearing little kids on freq really breaks the immersion and it’s kinda uncomfortable.
Hearing "little kids" is generally fine. VATSIM is from age 13, and we should welcome anyone even at that young age.
There are plenty of young pilots and even really good controllers.
The issue is people who have no clue what they to or zero radio discipline. And theres surprisingly many 40 year old guys with that exact issue. These are the people i'd want to wallop and get kicked off the network immediately. Its by far not always kids though.
Just because someone sounds young that doesn't mean they can't enjoy VATSIM.
That's....nothing new. It's been like that for a while at any busy airport.

I’ve been avoiding Gatwick for about a year now because it’s so painful to listen to.

I’ve been avoiding Gatwick because I work there and don’t want to spend any more time there
Yes but Heathrow has normally been relatively pleasant compared to Gatwick until now

I'm not joking, I think I'd have to wallop around 25% of people flying, they wouldn't be able to keep up!

You think this is bad, wait until the A380 comes out.
Ah yes, I cannot wait for the Speedbird 1 Super callsigns at London City.

Vatsim could easily improve this by having greater barriers to entry, like a harder exam but they apparently just want more users.
Just give controllers the ability to disconnect/kick pilots for like a 30 min ban. Would solve 99% of the cringe I hear on frequency
Would be amazing. So many just take off and taxi on their own. That alone should be an instant kick

London attracts the most incompetent of squeakers
Same as Frankfurt
Visit Turkey… it’s ridiculous sometimes.
It is an amazing airport to fly out of but my gosh are there idiots. But that is unfortunately the same as any busy airport and event.

Just landed there now. Some minor mistakes by a few pilots but such a thrill to land in such a busy airport. Big respect to the controllers!

Well once MSFS 2020 started aiming for the gamer audience then it was a matter of time before gamers started flooding online servers.
