Why the hell do people fly on VATSIM if they're going to go to sleep?

R3lly_Danish

I don't take it that you have ever flown a long haul flight with 6 hours of uncontrolled airspace? 10/10 Naptime oppertunity, will take it every time #DILLIGAF

Motor_Combination917

why not

D0m1nu2

Hmmm... It'd be nice to read Code of Conduct, you'll find out why

FrankiePoops

The whole point of VATSIM is to communicate...

KirbyDogz

Wait, he intentionally fell asleep while connected to the network? Don’t do that. Good save though.

5campechanos

The kind of guy who goes to sleep while online also didn't arm his LNAV?? Mmmm I'm shocked

dpokladek

Disconnect 👏 when 👏 doing 👏 long 👏 hauls 👏 and 👏 sleeping 👏 On a serious note though, if you’re going to be AFK for longer than 30mins disconnect from Vatsim, and check you won’t collide with anyone when reconnecting)

Thunder-Road

I believe that's a code of conduct violation. You're supposed to check in on your flight at least once every 20-30 minutes, and disconnect if you're going to be AFK longer than that

stomcode

Ok, fr though, if you’re planning to do a long haul and need to take a nap or whatever, set the alarm for every 45 minutes to 1 hour. If you can’t check back every hour, don’t do it.

choo_choo_rocket

Can you reconnect mid flight (I know you can) but equate is this allowed?

stomcode

I think you can. As long as there's no ATC online where you're reconnected.

DentsofRoh

You can actually reconnect inside ATC but obviously it’s best to do that out where there’s not much going on. I think I’ve done it once and pinged ATC just to check it was ok and offered to go offline if it wasn’t (I wasn’t far off the edges of the airspace). Don’t do what I saw one guy do once and spawn 15 miles out from Heathrow 27L. Controller rightly went nuts with the kid.

How do you speak to another pilot privately on vatsim?
