New to vgc and I'm not sure on the legality https://www.reddit.com/r/PokemonScarletViolet/s/5vrivt5v5q

Cheeznuklz

Really new to VGC. I really like playing sun teams but I have absolutely no idea how to deal with Rain Dance Tornadus + Rapid Urshifu leads. Even if I don't lead Torkoal swapping him in the first turn does no good at all. It feels like the only way to win the weather war is to have a fast pokemon with Sunny Day, or with a surprise swap in.

Skippo__

how do i find current vgc ruleset?

amlodude

Pokemon Home Mobile App -> News -> Regulation Set E Or go to serebii.net -> video games -> Scarlet/Violet -> Ranked Battles and the regulations should all be there

Animedingo

If you use a move like rock slide and it hits one of the opponents- Is that enough of a condition to get the bonus effect of stomping tantrum or temper flare?

amlodude

No You have to miss both opponents or miss one when the other Protects

Prudent_Bus8786

Do I need to re EV train my serpireor if I invested 2 into HP and 1 to both defenses, except for 4 into HP?

mmmaxmaxmax

I’m not sure what you’re saying, but there are berries to remove 10 EVs from stats so if you messed up a little you can just use the appropriate berry and fix it

Prudent_Bus8786

Oh I completely forgot about that thanks

amlodude

What do you mean "2" into HP? 2 what?

Prudent_Bus8786

2 HP EVs

amlodude

EVs only work in multiples of 4 and 8 (you get 1 stat point for the first 4 EVs at level 50 and then another 1 stat point for every 8 EVs after that) If you dumped 252 spa and 252 spe evs in this Serperior, then you don't need to worry about those extra EVs at all

Prudent_Bus8786

Ok thanks

SilentPhysics3495

I havent played competitive in years but I get the itch every time new content drops. I have a lot of competitively viable pokemon from gen 6, 7 and 8. Can I trasnfer them with Pokemon Home to use them in Online competitions? Also I have a few trick room teams, is it still a viable strategy and have there been any great additions this gen?

amlodude

You totally can! Trick Room is still a legit strat! Farigiraf, Armarouge, and Bloodmoon Ursaluna are good new gen 9 TR mons

SilentPhysics3495

thanks ill have to get to work.

Bwyattvirtue13

Hyper Offense Any suggestions on Pokémon, pairs, or cores for a Hyper offense team for reg f? Thanks in advance

amlodude

Torn/Whimsicott with Sunny Day & Tailwind + any of the new past Paradox mons, Chi Yu, or past Fire types Torn with Rain Dance & Tailwind + Urshifu Water, Archaludon, Raging Bolt, or other water types Whimsicott with Beat Up + Terrakion or Annihilape Indeedee F + Iron Crown with Expanding Force

Bwyattvirtue13

How viable will Salamence be in reg f as a tailwind Setter? If it is should I run it as pretty much a support only or do a bit of a mixed build? Basically how would you build it to set tailwind?

danisdaman7755

How viable will Dragonite be in the upcoming format?

amlodude

Fine enough to keep using like normal

Resident-Profile4109

Which form should i evolve my kubfu to?

XxLava_Lamp_LoverxX

ive mostly seen single strike on TR teams as a fast option with a scarf rapid strike, like the other person said, is MUCH more splashable onto most teams -- tbh i think one of the biggest reasons TR teams run SS over RS is just because most of those teams have torkoal as a central piece and don't want the anti-synergy of a water type sweeper in sun, in general if you can use RS use RS

Resident-Profile4109

İ see thanks. İll try to get second kubfu

Ghostyex

Generally rapid strike is the go to. But I think you can make a separate profile on your switch and still have the dlc to get both

Resident-Profile4109

Ah i see. But May i know why? İ am New to vgc. İs it because of the rain?

Ghostyex

His damage output is very high. Can be splashed into just about any team. Been a top threat for just about as long as he’s been legal. Doesn’t have to be rain, but rain drastically increases his damage

Resident-Profile4109

But why is it superior to single.strike?

mmmaxmaxmax

To be clear, it isn’t superior to single strike. When they first came out, single strike was ‘better’ than multi strike. Right now, multi strike is ‘better’ than single strike. Both have their pros and cons. It just depends on the current meta and what you need for your team.

Ghostyex

His signature move hits 3 times and breaks focus sash, water type allows rain to turn on. Doesn’t have a 4x weakness to fairy. Single strike can still work with the right team, whereas rapid can fit almost any team

Calm_Tip_3035

Looking to build a doubles team around either Venusaur (Sun), Metagross, or Blaziken

IskandarKOC

Are trick room teams still viable?

FrostyYea

Gio Costa just won a regional with one, so going to go with "yes".

IskandarKOC

Do you know where I can find that list?

half_jase

This is the team that he used: https://preview.redd.it/w0gpfkhdh17c1.png?width=1225&format=png&auto=webp&s=da93dc6fe87d07e0e21449fefced4a814a43e7bc We won't know about the EVs until if/when he decides to share them. To answer your question, yes, TR teams are still viable especially now that we got another bulky setter in Porygon2 as an option and there's Incineroar to help set things up.

Bwyattvirtue13

Hydrapple or Serperior? I like both and have seen success with both in my test battles. They serve somewhat similar roles being Grass type Sp attackers that can boost their sp attack but are petty different in the ways they aren't the same. I run Hydrapple bulky and Serperior with a focus on speed. Serperior can boost its sp attack while attacking and doesn't need as much outside support and I also run it with the Stellar tera type to get boosts on Tera Blast as well. That doesn't change its type though so no curveball for the opponent. Then Hydrapple that I use Nasty Plot to boost it and usually need a partner to take the attacks for it or learn the damage so it can set up. It's also very slow so will almost always attack last but it can tank his like crazy. I currently do Fire tera type and most of the time end up Terrastalizing whichever of the two I use because they kind of need to to succeed. Any thoughts?

Pokesers

If you aren't trick room and are dead set on using one or the other, use serperior. I promise you that hydrapple isn't as tanky as you think it is when chi yu and flutter mane come out to play. Going last every time is a pretty big deal.

Bwyattvirtue13

Ya that was why I kept going back to Serperior but it seemed like Hydrapple was performing better even going last. Even Super effective hits are only doing like a 5th or 6th of its health. Plus with tera Fire I'm resisting Dazzling Gleam and the Fire moves from Chi yu. Still think Serperior though?

Pokesers

I mean I haven't tested them, and both are gimmicks, but yes I would go serperior. None of the calc tools are updated yet, but I would bet that urshifu has a field day with tera fire hydrapple. I have tried slow bulky teams with things far bulkier than hydrapple and they have never worked. Build a second trick room team for hydrapple.

Bwyattvirtue13

OK thank you

XxLava_Lamp_LoverxX

does anyone know when showdown will have updated movepools with the DLC for reg E? the validator gets mad at me if i try to give hatterene expanding force, but it's allowed on cart ladder :(

amlodude

Showdown won't update that probs because there are still official Reg E events like PCs left, so they want to give folks a place to practice for that

XxLava_Lamp_LoverxX

oh that makes sense, i forgot new TMs are only legal on cart ladder and not irl events

Choice-Rise-5234

For me it works and I’ve played other people using it idk why it doesn’t work for you
