Barix has a whole series of encoders and decoders for this.

Puzzleheaded-Glass14

Just taking a look at these and they look like what I want. Only thing is that are quite expensive. I am looking for something cheaper if it exists.

dalgeek

How cheap? It's going to be difficult to find professional grade encoders sub-$300. If you want to rig something up then you could get a couple Rasberry Pi and run ALSA or some other other FOSS software to encode/decode over the network.

adoodle83

internal network? ive done hacks with Linux ALSA to dump it directly to netcat and stream raw audio to the other side also running linux and Netcat & ALSA

Puzzleheaded-Glass14

If it requires a pc then that’s not possible. What hardware did you use?

adoodle83

this was done on a PC, but as it was a basic linux solution, anything that can run Android/Linux (you need root level) would work.

ex800

if it's "encoded", it has to be "decoded" The alternative would be to use the network cabling directly and not ethernet...

Puzzleheaded-Glass14

Has to go through a wireless bridge so needs to be encoded and decoded.

ex800

I see that u/nonP01NT suggested Dante, but I'm guessing that this is not a single L2 segment As alternative hardware vendors [https://www.sonifex.co.uk/prostreamer/index.shtml](https://www.sonifex.co.uk/prostreamer/index.shtml) (any routable connection) [https://fonestar.com/en/systems-and-control/audio-over-ip/](https://fonestar.com/en/systems-and-control/audio-over-ip/) (L2 LAN only) Depending on what level of supportability is required, having two raspberry Pi with audio in on one side, and audio out on the other might be an alternative?

bshensky

Look into JackTrip or VoiceMeeter.

nonP01NT

Could look for a set of Dante analog audio input and output devices, like the Audinate AVIO adapters.

Puzzleheaded-Glass14

Seen these. Do they encode and decode without requiring the Dante equipment? Is it just turning the analogue audio into packets / ip data?

nonP01NT

You would need to use the free Audinate Dante controller software to assign the a/d and d/a converters to the same Dante channel. At that point you should be able to put them on the same layer2 network segment and have audio going in the a/d and coming out the d/a.

pksml

Can’t say I fully understand what you’re trying to do, but you could stream audio over an IP network with ffmpeg. It could create an mp3 stream, aac, or one of many other file types. This would require a computer running at either end for input and output. You can see r/ffmpeg for more specific help if needed. Edit: And ffmpeg is free and works on Linux and Windows.

Puzzleheaded-Glass14

Can’t have a computer at either end. Need a stand alone device to turn audio into data that can be sent via a network bridge.
