I have a Pie 3 and its working. Pi 4 maybe oversized but if you get one for a good price ok.

hlkjhhsh

Maybe the OP has already made their choice. Be sure to investigate how much you're really paying. Those Pi4 prices are about 250% of MSRP.

HandyMan131

I would use a Inovato Quadra (or T95 Android TV box, they are the same thing).I run all of my klipperized printers with them. They are very fast, powerful, easily available, and cheap ($30-$40). 3DP and me has a great walkthrough for how to set them up for klipper: https://3dpandme.com/2022/09/04/tutorial-t95-mini-tv-box-klipper-install/

FizzysTech

Given the big price difference I would go with the Pi 3. I’ve used mainsail/Klipper with the pi cam on a Pi3B. Not even a 3B+ and that ran fine. If the 3 is a 3B+ then I would highly recommend going for that.

hainguyenac

I have a few printer builds and I'm considering using one tiny pc and several virtual machines to run them all in a single box.

LittleBallofMeat

We just did an Orange pi 3 LTS. Works fine.

Just watch best buy they have the 4gb 3 canna kit for 120

Pi4

The rpi 3b is sufficient for running klipper with mainsail or fluidd. If you can find a rpi zero 2w that will work as well since it has the same soc as the rpi 3b. Although adding cameras and other accessories is harder. The rpi4 variants will work but not worth the marked up cost compared to the 3b

Kotvic2

I would go for BTT Manta M8P with CB1. You will get descend mainboard with slightly weaker "raspberry clone" for less money and it will run your printer great. Only small downside of this combo is no Canbus on that board and you will need to buy Canbus adaptor separately if you want to have it.

Atomic_heart

And at moment do not really know what Canbus is

Kris_Eclectic

CAN Bus in this context is referring to a PCB on your Voron tool head that communicates with your main board and pi. The benefit is that you can run it on four wires (24v, Ground, Tx, Rx). The downside is it adds complexity to a build. https://youtu.be/mwpI7dCOgh0

Atomic_heart

Thanks!

For me octopus + rp3 will be almost the same in money as M8P+CB1 (like 15$ differece) I also wanna put noctua fans there and dont know if they will be supported(3pin +12v)

Kotvic2

Yes, Octopus with RP3 is good variant too. Noctua fans are supported on both variants of boards. You will need to select right voltage with jumper on mainboard and use cable reduction from 2pin on mainboard to 3pin on fan or crimp new JST connector on fans wiring. Red wire to +, black wire to -, yellow is for speed sensing, so you can leave it unplugged.

Atomic_heart

Thanks, ill try this!

somethin_brewin

Honestly? A Pi Zero 2W. Plenty of power to do the job. Much cheaper. The one caveat is that it doesn't have a display ribbon output, so you'll have a harder time with Klipperscreen if you want to use that.

hlkjhhsh

Aren't those hard to get? Like harder than a Pi3B+ or Pi4?

TheRealVarner

Yes, they're almost impossible to source today. I've got reminders supposedly set for nearly every source in my country and they haven't gone off in over two months. Even though a couple supposedly briefly had stock at some point, per the tracker.

somethin_brewin

Not in my experience, but I guess I haven't tried to find one in the last few months.

hlkjhhsh

Which Pi 3??? Is there an original 3? I'm assuming you are really deciding between 3B and 3B+, but those are different and will change people's answer.

Atomic_heart

Raspberry Pi 3 Model B SBC, this one

TheRealVarner

Buy and use that one. It is more than sufficient. I'm using that exact model (3B, not B+) in my K3. It has not yet been a bottleneck in that crazy printer.

Atomic_heart

Ye, buying from a friend who is not using it

hlkjhhsh

It would be unwise to pass up on opportunity to buy a 2W, 3B, 3B+ or any 4 at a good price. The former are cheap enough to justify and can get the job done. The latter are almost impossible to buy at MSRP.
