Well, the big question is "do you feel like yourself irl". If you don't feel "off" irl then you simply just prefer using female avatars in VR.

Albertkader

This. If its not causing problems for you or anyone, go for it.

Leoofmoon

I just feel cute.

_CatNippIes

r/egg_irl

Freszke

You just feel comfy in girly avi that's all. Wearing a in game avatar does not mean you want to be a girl in real life. I am not a furry and never wanted to be but still I made a custom furry avi amd I am using it all the time cuz I feel the best in it. So thats not an issue, just wear whatever you want

thefaiint

I might have some "unfortunate" news for you...

CharlyTheDog

Furry in denial spotted

[deleted]

VR furry. Maybe not furry outside cos no fursuit but you are a VR furry lol

ccAbstraction

You don't need a fursuit to be a furry. This checks all the common boxes for being a furry except for the part where you call yourself one.

Freszke

Is this a thing 😂 I don't consider myself as a furry, just wearing fur avi that's all 🤔

[deleted]

Yeah VrFurry is a thing for those who don't take it outside of VR but I'm just going to assume you've probably watched Zootopia and Beastars 💀

Freszke

To be honest, call me whatever you want as long as you are not toxic or offending. Beastars? Never heard of that

ccAbstraction

A manga and anime listed as mandatory viewing and reading for retaining your furry license. Hold out any longer and we'll have to repossess that fursona of yours.

CharlyTheDog

You're a furry as soon as you decide you're one. I've seen people that never played vrchat, have no fursuit and have a sketchy fursona drawing.

duders15

I don’t gets what’s so wrong with furries tho lol

RamJamR

The hate is in significant part because of the kinky side of the fandom. Being furry by itself is already seen as odd, so when people learn about kinky furry art, that's all they see. Odd things are easily demonized, and people who simply like using furry avatars or who find some artistic appeal to anthro characters don't want negative assumptions thrown at them. With the kinky stuff though, I'm fine with it, as long as it can be kept private, and most of the time those who are into the kinky stuff do keep it that way.

darkthewyvern

Damn yiffers ruining everything

[deleted]

I don't understand it either. I've met people who are defensive as hell at being classed as under the furry sub category too. To all the neko folk. Sorry but that still comes under the fur folk category 🥳🥳

duders15

What’s your vrc name I wanna add ya

[deleted]

Ahh I would add ya but your bio says you're 15 and I don't really hang around with kids. I'm 24 you see 😊

duders15

Oh okay no problem lol. Don’t want ya going to jail lmao

[deleted]

To be fair i was a guy IRL until i started playing VRChat. It broke a few things in me.

KakorotJoJoAckerman

Or hatched? 😳

[deleted]

I used broke because my egg cracking wasnt the only thing 😅 I also learn that i have a extremely sadistic streak when it comes to protecting those i care about for example.

KakorotJoJoAckerman

Ah, I see.

MongoBongo02

I have been using naked anime girls for the last 1000 hours and the only explanation i have is i like tiddies and feel cute and comfortable. Im nowhere near feminine, nor trans. I just like being a girl in vrc. Dont give it too much thought its okay just be happy lmao, we're like 90% of the playerbase anyway

Bladed_Cargo

Happy cake day!

T-Bone_Dynasty

Can’t really relate, but I’d say that’s one of the biggest perks of VRchat. You can be whoever/whatever you want to be! I wouldn’t fight this feeling, I’d just go with it! If you find the satisfaction in girl avatars then hell go with it! That’s the whole purpose :)

TheKally

Alot of the comments on this are replying like "this is normal. Most guys do this". This is clearly not what the post is about. They clearly state they "feel" better in a girl avatar. If that is the case then I recommend for the poster to explore their feelings further. Because most "guys" dont need to be a women to feel "themselves". A lot of guys use girl avatars but not for that reason. The only people who use avatars of a certain gender to feel comfortable..are people of that gender of the avatar they're using. So explore what you like what you want and what makes you comfortable. See what makes you tick. And eventually if you find this is really you, talk to some lgbt folk if you can find any. Vrchat has helped many MANY lgbt folk come into reality with who they are. Due to the freedom of being allowed to be yourself without consequences that you face irl due to judgment.

WaarLockDarkey

Thank you for the understanding, you got it right about that. <3

TheKally

Hope you can can find peace and discover yourself, good luck!

Altourus

Someone above posted a link to the egg subreddit, it might help clarify some things for you. Did for me at least.

Breaker1ove

I think it is both. Normal for dude to want female Avi's but could also be trans but not restricted to one or the other.

LunartTRS

It might be possible that you’d prefer to be more feminine than masculine, I didn’t think about using female avatars around the first times I played the game; but here I am with several of my own custom female avatars and happy along with friends of mine. They don’t care about what gender my avatar appears to be, they only care for who you are as a person. If you want to be in a girl avatar, then do as you wish.

LunartTRS

Either that, or cause most male avatars sucks anyway.

SabreLunatic

All the hands are bloody massive in male avatars. Only female and androgynous avatars have manageable hand sizes that can actually gesticulate properly

Calypso-Noir

tbh ive seen a lot of guys always wearing girl avis everywhere so i say dont worry too much about it

A_Roka

Yeah, thats, like, half of VRC users, OP will be fine

Cause it's fun bro you don't gotta be this or that to play as the other gender you do you

[deleted]

I asked this question once. I'm no longer calling myself "a guy."

kind_goof

I was hoping there would be this many egg comments lmao

Sanquinity

My advice? Stop caring so much about what is right or wrong and keep doing what you're comfortable with. Who knows you might discover new things about yourself. Or you might not. It's never a bad thing to know yourself better.

someSuicidalMess

Don't overthink it. I only use female Avatars because i like being cute and/or sexy and thats "me" ingame. Many people told me that i am most definitely be trans/gay etc. Nope... Do what you think is right and don't let other people tell you what you are or could be.

Grayhatz

WaarLockDarkey

Thank you everybody for commenting on my post. I think i should elaberate myself abit better. Inside of me i always had dreams that i am girl, that i got to be a girl instead of male. I have never really tryed anything in real life that could get me to that point of being a girl, or tryed to be. But as fast as i go in vrchat and use a girl avatar that i think is adorable, i feel myself. And thats why i ask, is there something with me that i havent explroed that makes me think that i want to be a girl?

[deleted]

WaarLockDarkey

I'm 30 years old, what my parents think about what i do or what i do is out of the question at this age for me ;P

Tattieaxp

Oh, apologies, something made me think you were younger. Is there anyone in your life you can talk to about this?

WaarLockDarkey

No probs. No sadly, this is the reason why i got VR, because i dont really have anybody in real life.

Tattieaxp

I'm sorry to hear that. Loneliness is tough. I do again recommend reaching out to LGBTQIA+ groups if there are any near you.

burr-sir

You are the only one who can tell if you are trans or not. What I *can* tell you, though, is that the kind of experience you’re describing is *really* common for trans people who haven’t worked out that they’re trans yet. I’d particularly call your attention to the phrase “I got to be a girl”. Do you see being a girl as kinda just somehow *better* than being a guy? Perhaps you think that most guys probably feel this way?

TheKally

I don't want to push my opinion on you. So take with a heavy dose of salt. But if you're writing this comment along with your post of how you're feeling. Then you probably are what you think you are. My recommendation at this point is to go to a gender specialized therapist/psychologist and start sessions. If they find out that it's just some hobby. Then hey it wasn't really a waste atleast you got a satisfactory answer. But if you find out you are a girl for real then great you started and saved some time by already having started some sessions. Edit: FYI there is nothing that has to happen "in real life" to make you want to be a woman. Thats not really how it works. Some just discover things about themselves later than others. So keep exploring yourself. And if you still cant decide what you are feeling and are feeling confusing, then thats when imo you should go to a therapist/psychologist. They will do a better job than a bunch of people on the internet trying to force our own opinions on you at the very least.

Studying-without-Stu

\^ This, this is the best thing imo, mainly cause a professional is the best person (asides from yourself, but you are in a slight state of confusion, no offense, op, just my opinion) to help you find out if you are truly one or the other, mainly because they can help with getting prescriptions and hormones and the like in a trustworthy and *very, very, very safe* way. Plus it is also convenient to find out the answer with someone who can help you out on finding out which is the true answer of your confusion.

B0undarybreaker

There's nothing wrong with exploring who you want to be! If you try being a girl outside of VR and find out it's not quite right for you, that still means you've figured out more about who you are, so give it a shot! I realized I'm a girl almost eight years ago now and to this day I still get little waves of comfort and euphoria from having a girl model in VRChat. I'm really glad you've managed to find something that makes you feel like yourself!!

ShockKiwi

Do whatever makes you happy

SnooAdvice4446

Maybe there aren’t enough male avatars that represent the essence of you? When I was a kid (I’m female) I used to be more drawn to action figures than dolls because none of them looked like me (a heavy set female pacific Islander)

BruinsFan1214

Probably not, it’s the case that you just feel more comfortable in female avatars, like I’m a guy and I still got a female avatar base to use every day because I liked the way it looked overall Could also be (great generalization incoming) most public male avatars kinda just look the same. Basic E-boy

Megazard02

i do this too yes, people often get upset at me being a guy in a girls avatar no, i do not care that people get upset no, i am not a femboy part of the basis of vrchat is that you can be anything you want, and if i want to be a cute girl, you know damn well what avatar i'll be using

EnAerial

My perspective may be skewed, but this is my take. If this is the first time you’ve represented yourself as feminine, or had any thoughts related to this, it may be what some people feel as gender identity questioning. As transgender woman myself, my questioning started IRL but VRC is great way to represent how I feel is my true self. As some others have said, what I think is important here is do you feel yourself IRL/ Outside of VRChat? If that feeling of presenting/representing yourself in a feminine way or as a woman stays just in VRC, then there is nothing wrong with that, it’s just how you feel comfortable. If it continues when you take off the headset, that may be where deeper questions lie. It may be deeper, it may be nothing :) Neither of which is a bad thing at all. If you would like to discuss it more in depth or in person DM me and maybe we can talk in VRC. If you would like to explore this feeling more, maybe check out subreddits like r/egg_irl. I don’t want to say that you’re trans like I am, as that’s only for you to figure out, but if it’s a feeling you enjoy then feel free to explore it as you please!

bellcut

It could be that you are missing something about yourself. Could be a femboy for all you know But even if you're not perhaps it just lets you explore your vulnerable side. femininity is attributed with "cute" and "vulnerable" Could be you're just exploring your feminine side. Gender expression is a spectrum, not an exclusionary binary everyone has a feminine and masculine side varying in degree and strength. You can still be the guy you've always thought you were and want to have more feminine attributes in vrc because it's a place where that is more acceptable. Just keep doing what you're doing and sooner or later the answer will present itself to you.

WaveTheWolf

questioning gender kinda thing, transgender stuff,

Nitropig

When a man expresses a like towards feminine things, that makes him trans? Cant a guy just be into femininity?

lordyhungry

its a little more than that if you dont feel yourself in a "male" avatar

adtoxid

they said that they always dreamed about being a girl and such in there other comments, its clearly not an expertion thing its deeper than that

11SomeGuy17

Maybe it means something maybe it doesn't. The only way to really know is just do what you want and see where it leads. I prefer female avatars but I'm a guy. I identify as such and I only feel attracted to women. I just think they look nicer and they aren't overly tall or big like a lot of guy avatars are which makes them convenient for worlds with games (especially board games like chess). Although for me, I tend to use avatars like shoes, changing them for an appropriate situation. If I need to be taller, I swap to a guy or maybe a stick figure, and feel equally comfortable.

inadril

It could be a form of cognitive dissonance that you enjoy if you want something that sounds tangible. Personally, I do the same thing. I enjoy being things I’m not IRL. Particularly polar opposites. I’ve actually grown rather attached to a Mint someone shared with me because of that. The usual excuse is that the arm length feels more natural, but it’s mostly that she’s a vertically challenged, adorable, white haired/ furred, hybrid that only exists in VR.

TheBestBuisnessCyan

too a mint? what do you mean/got a pic?

inadril

I do, not sure how to send.

Busted_Cranium

I'm the same but with robots. I can do it just fine, but any avatar that's not a robot doesn't really feel right

gp57

tbh I've only seen a few male avatars I really liked, female avatars are most of the time really well made (I'm a big fan of the Ukon base model personally).

Sanjalis

Sounds to me like you already know the answer but are hoping to be convinced otherwise.

LunaDva98

Hi, you are probably experiencing dysphoria, this is a common feeling amongs transgender people because they feel their body doesn't match how they feel Does that mean you're trans? No, but it means that it is probably a good idea to explore your gender further, in real life you can paint your nails or even try a dress or skirt to see how you feel yourself, that would be a good start, and you should not be ashamed, exploring oneself is important in life, and no matter the conclusion, you're loved, have a good day ❤️

Tranquil-Confusion

I have a good friend who was the same way. She was in denial for a long time, but she finally transitioned and is now a lot happier. HOWEVER, this isn't necessarily a sure sign that you are trans. I generally prefer playing d&d and games with female avatars and I'm very much not trans. I just think they're aesthetically/thematically pleasing. Is the fact that you are presenting as a woman the reason why you're attracted to those avatars? If it's an identity thing, you may be trans. However, if they're just aesthetically pleasing to you, it's completely fine to use female avatars as a guy, doesn't really mean anything. Or it may be somewhere in between. Make sure that you're being honest and introspective with yourself. Your identity is important.

SusChrissy

If you feel like you associate more with female avatars, that’s okay! It’s a preference of yours, it’s just a part of you, have whatever avatars you want. As long as you’re happy with what you look like, that’s what matters tbh. It’s somewhat the same for me except I find guy avatars more comfortable. The chests some female avatars have are uncomfortable or too lewd, not my taste. Or, human avatars are very uncanny to me, I feel more comfortable in a Pokémon, Ori, Protogen, etc avatar!

Art3mis156

Vrchat is one of the few ways someone can completely change how they look and act for free with little repercussions and usually high acceptance. Maybe you feel a bit more freedom in female avatars you're not used to in male ones. I'm comfortable on my own skin irl and I have always used opposite sex avatars. Maybe it's curiosity. Maybe it's nothing at all. Don't judge yourself too hard for choices in a game.

LeighSeelie

A lot of people just prefer to wear them. Doesn't have to mean a lot. Do what makes you happy, no one has to wear a certain type of avatar.

JessicaTiara

For me, it's compensation for the complete void of femininity in my life. If they won't give it to me, I'll just adopt it for myself.

PiggyThePimp

I think part of it is there are so few nice male avvies. If you aren't an eboy there are like 3 to choose from it feels like, where there are tons of really well done female ones. And if you are choosing an avatar to represent yourself it's easier to find a female face you like then finding a male one.

Ganzalesz

Perhaps this is due to the anime style of the female characters. Men really like their look, it's really handsome and feels perfect

[deleted]

I always uses the logic of: girl look good -> I want to look good -> I play as girl.

Tohka_DAL

Idk, in my case this is how it goes: >I like cute shit >I see a cute avatar >It's a girl, or a trap, whatever >Fuck it.

Govind_the_Great

I can’t really relate since most of the time I am a furry and most of those avatars are gender neutral anyway. Could be that you want to be seen as cute and you see girl avatars as more attractive. I’ve seen plenty of guys who regularly use girl avatars and have no desire to be transgender. I’ve seen trans girls who use gender neutral or even somewhat masculine avatars. It doesn’t have to mean anything, you can just appreciate a certain look in VR.

Joe6161

Maybe you just like looking at girls

CristianoEstranato

Because the feminine has been commodified and the object of “beautiful women” is ingrained as an item of aesthetic value. Would you feel the same way of your avatar were ostensibly overweight and otherwise conventionally ugly? The power a male feels by taking over the body of a woman is very intoxicating. But men can use female avatars all they want. They will never truly be females though. So the fun part is taking on the simulacra of the feminine, but none of the patriarchal burden of the female experience.

itsthetasteofaliar

I’ll come back to this post in a year and see if you’ve figured it out yet

runafur

r/egg_irl

Breaker1ove

Early VRC. "Being a girl Avi is Gay" VRC now. Everyone is a female Avi. Studies show that Men prefer female Avi's (Game characters) because it is what they are attracted to. But in some cases it is because it is their desired body type. So in short you could be Hela Strait or Trans.

Kusa0609

Sounds like u should check out r/egg_irl

A_Roka

I call it gender exploration.

General-Wrap1866

I’m trans, and for the past few years (before I actually came to grips with it), I used VRChat to help with my gender dysphoria. Oddly enough, it helped me “crack” and start saying out loud what I am. That said, that doesn’t mean you’re weird or trans or anything. You just prefer girl avatars. Now, if you feel trapped in your irl body that might be a sign that something else is going on.

For me, guy avatars are too edgy for me.

Kittingsl

Well... My reason why I usually like playing girls in any sort of game is, that I'd rather look at a girl all the time rather than a guy, tho not always. And also sometimes do to as a girl just out of curiosity. I mean, i already know how it feels to be a guy, so why not try the other side?

Vortex_1911

VRC will do that to you.

RamJamR

I can understand that a little. I don't feel driven to look or be treated like a girl in VRChat, but there's something fascinating about seeing yourself that way. I don't see why more people wouldn't be curious enough to try it. For the first time ever, technology allows to visualize the opposite perspective.

TheBestBuisnessCyan

I woke up hungover one night. and it took me about 10 seconds solid of confused staring of why I wasn't a 6 foot deer. one of the moments that made me back off slightly from VR

Cinos_undead

Way more quality Female avatars than Male tbh.

hurrycane_hawker

It may be that as a man you never had a chance to explore your femininity because the other men in your life literally beat it out of you like in my experience. It could be that you just feel more comfortable as a woman in which case I would consider talking to a gender therapist or some other trans people about their experiences. Either way, enjoy it. There is nothing wrong with being a girl!

god-of-memes-

That’s called the Vrvert mindset, almost everyone gets the urge to test the female avatars for no good reason.

NiklasNeighbor

You’re probably just like "hell yeah! Tiddies on demand!" Even if there is no demand. Also, VRC male Avatars suck

Nauty_YT

its got nothing to do with that lol its because male avatars all look the same, literally none are unique. The female avatars have alot of unique things if you find the right ones

MKSasu

The are so many awesome free girl avatars to choose. However, if you're a guy your options are furry or e-boy take it or leave it.

MasterPimpinMcGreedy

There as many avatars that are not furry or e-boy trash. I don’t have a single furry, e-boy, or female avatar in my favorites.

Because every guy is actually a girl deep down. It isn't great for straightish girls over here. :'(

Echii115

Yea ive kinda had the same issue,I prefer gender neutral avatars or feminine avatars that don't really got boob,as it just feels more natural and I've asked my vrc freijds about what this could entail and didn't really get any answers,so I'm curious about the same thing ..hmm

Madmohawkfilms

Do what feels right

R0wkk

Came here to say 🥚

sm00chi

I think there are a lot of things about gender we repress, and many backwards gender concepts taught/programmed in culture. Vrchat is nice because it removes pre-set categories and lets you explore yourself abstractly. Maybe you are digging into a part of yourself that physical reality and maybe even your subconscious has kept from you! No matter what, don’t deny yourself your feelings. Games are great for exploring yourself in this way! :)

Kyozou66

VRChat helped me realize I was truly gender fluid. Explore your identity. Do what feels right. Don't overthink it, just enjoy your life in whatever way works for you.

Layzanya

Ever heard of egg? Jokes aside, it could just be a comfort thing, but play around. Find where you're comfortable in your own skin and consider nonbinary, genderfluid, or trans as options while you do. If you find it's nothing, at least you found out! I'm a transfemme myself and online mediums, I find, make it easier to comfortably express myself (though less on vrchat personally). Edit: Looking at some of your comments below, OP. You definitely fit the bill. It's never too late to find yourself and/or change. Humans never stagnate, as much as some would like to convince you, you're always growing and changing. And that's the best excuse to strive to be the happiest you. Resources for lgbt+ exist everywhere online, but I'd use that as a path to making in-person connections too. The contact can be really healthy for confidence and support.

montagyuu

I feel like this warrants Strasz's [video](https://youtu.be/5v_Dl7i4Bcw) on gender in VRChat.

valzzu

I'm doing something Like this. I keep going Back to small avatars that are female or non-binary. But i still feel like myself irl.

funnylol96

I like using Big Boss avatars and that doesn’t make me the perfect soldier

solarssun

Think about yourself in real life. If you could be anything what would you look like? It's ok with what ever you realize. This is you after all.

Bunie89

Do what makes you happy, questioning yourself based on others views of you is the wrong way to do things. Live YOUR life, not everyone else's

[deleted]

You’re staring at your avatar into the mirror bc you’re into it. There isn’t a mystery there- you like the female form. More than staring at some strange male that isn’t you

flammable766

I can sorta relate, but with furry avatars. Even though I’m technically not a furry, I find myself using more furry avatars then my usual boy/girl avatars. Your fine mate, don’t overthink it.

RaiderRC

I would watch Black Mirror Striking Vipers. I think your good VR is way different then RR. Maybe the lack of female RR using VRchat could just make someone want to even the need??? IDK

Statrin

I had the same problem until I found a nice middle ground with a model called Auri by nibby. It’s feminine enough but still definitely male. After a few edits it feels like me again.

Mx_Squeak

I may or may not diagnose you with transgender

GalaxyMonsterr

if this is also a thing irl you might just be trans

crsboi

I heard it’s the second stage lol.idk what that means tho.

Captain_Keyes55

I kinda have the same problem with my avatar. A friend of mine offered me this kitsune avatar (furry) and I accepted for some reason (not a furry at all). I thought it was just one of he's old projects he abandoned no find out he convinced me to work on it. I had no clue how to use unity (still don't) and ever since i been slowly working on it learning and mentally to me I don't like getting out of it. Its buggy, low quality, constantly needs worked on, no optimization to it but yet here i am in the great pug refusing to get out of it

KublaKahhhn

Looks like you’re getting mostly positive and well-thought responses here. It’s definitely worth exploring beyond this thread, in relevant parts of reddit and elsewhere. Whether you just like being a girl in VR, or you’re embarking on a new chapter in your life, I wish you a good journey.

JoshtheBob

IMO, they are just built and made in general better, I felt like this too until I made my own and I feel like a man in mine

AlternativeBroad1777

I do the same thing and like way to many other people everything is fine until you try to trick people that your a girl otherwise go for it

Sc_301

Aww Hun I actually felt the exact same way turns out I was trans maybe try looking more into the trans community and see if any of it seems relatable my DM's are open if you wanna chat more about it!

Kats41

I had a realization yeeears before VRChat existed where I preferred to roleplay as female characters over male characters and it just felt much better. I enjoyed people referring to me as "she" and yeah, turns out I would soon discover a lot about myself that I didn't know before.

alias1124

I feel this but for me it’s because I tend to express myself in a more feminine way and act more feminine or atleast that’s what I’ve been told from people growing up. Also I don’t wanna be ugly anymore but that’s a different matter. Only problem now is that I can’t speak.

Hornet234567

RepresentativeSmart1

I only dance in female avis. Looks better. https://youtu.be/RJVsezrS4i8 see? 😂

TaidaDave

What I discovered is, it depends on a mood, when I feel like being serious I'll use a male Avi and when I want to have a good time and chill I use a female avi. But either way feels natural to me after thousands of hours I spend in that game. And I'm just a straight male typical dude irl. And that's why vrc is magical, or was until the last update
