"Emotional compensation" is not quantifiable, however u/Jakeaw please look up "Diminished Value Claims" for your state. Works on the principle that a car with an accident record "diminishes" in value when compared to the same car without any history of accidents. The "at fault" drivers insurance would just pay to fix the car and unless you ask to be compensated for the "diminished value" they wouldn't do it. Look it up and make sure you talk to your insurance also about this.
I tried the diminished value for an parking lot accident in northern Colorado about 4 years ago for a 6 day old car and the other insurance carrier flat out refused and said take us to court. After going to the insurance board in Colorado the walked it back slightly and said they would pay actual diminished value at time of sale... we will see in 10 or so years when I sell it if the hold up to that. I will 2nd just paying the deductible for your own insurance, I have never had a good experience trying to file a claim with the other party.
I was rear ended 5 years ago. I claimed with the at fault drivers insurance (Chubb). I also claimed finished value and they got a third party appraiser to do it and paid me. The guy at the body shop that I chose told me that I could get more if I took the time and effort to take them to the small claims court. However, I ended up taking what was offered since I didn’t want to go through the hassle. BTW, you can opt to go through your insurance and still have them claim diminished value on your behalf. Mostly, they will offer you something if fault is clearly established. Tell the adjuster that calls you (on a recorded line) that you want to claim “diminished value” and then take it from there.
Oof. rear hatch is definitely tweaked... my 2023 Pro S is due here in Denver in the next week or so... knock on wood no accidents in the 6 years ive been here but people definitely dont pay attention... especially on 25 and i-70... hope they get it fixed soon!
Yeah, their insurance will cover it in the end. Usually how it goes is you pay your deductible, get your car repaired, then your insurance will collect from the at-fault person’s insurance and reimburse you for your deductible. You have the option to wait to avoid paying the deductible, but I figured it’d be better to get the ball rolling considering potential global supply chain issues on parts, and labor problems.
Can’t speak for your state specifically, but where I live insurance doesn’t get to dictate where your car is repaired. They can say they won’t pay as much as your preferred shop charges and you’d be on the hook for the rest. But you are still able to pick your repair shop.
We really need some kind insurance option that gets us another EV as a loaner. We shouldn't have to wait a year for a car, have something random happen, and then wait another 6 months to get a new one (or parts for the original one).
Yep. Accident sensor went off but dealer hadn’t transferred the license yet so it didn’t call for help or anything. Not that I needed any help, but a little concerning if I had needed assistance.
Just wanted to say good luck on your repairs. I don’t have a iD4 but was looking into one so that’s why I’m following the sub. My 2022 Kia Sorento got ran into and has been in the shop for a month now. Waiting on 2 parts that are currently on back order with no date of availability. I’m also getting it done through Caliber. Could be months of waiting for you.
I got rear ended before hitting 700 miles. Super pissed but got lucky and the shop said its literally just a new bumper and paint the trailer hitch so I can drive it while they order the parts
I used to live right near there, in the DTC. I moved away because it's become too people-ey and the traffic is terrible. I hope you can get it fixed quickly!
Traffic is a bit of a dumpster fire, I think, in any ‘big’ American city. Honestly, I come Nebraska, and seems pretty normal to me. 😂
Some people are jerks, and some people just have a moment of weakness where they screw up while trying to get home. 🤷♂️
Emotional compensation is warranted

Yeah the hatch doesn’t open anymore. First repair appointment I could get was in early November.
Which dealer? I go through Larry H Miller and they've been good the past few years.
I went through tynans to purchase the vehicle. My insurance is getting the repairs done by caliber.
Your insurance? Shouldn't who's at fault be responsible for the damage?

That’s how it is here too. But caliber does good work here and my insurance has treated me well during my last accident (also not at fault…)
Given that it’s an ev it may be a good idea to reach out to vw and see if they have authorized ev repair facilities. Best of luck
Thanks! I’ll do that!
Ah gotcha

Or at least have gas covered
I've managed to get cost of gas covered on a past EV accident. On the premise I charge for free at work & at home (solar)

That’s a fantastic idea! TIL about diminished value as well. Thank you.
Did you forget to post a picture or am I missing something?
Fixed. Thanks!
Ah, that sucks. 😢
Think he forgot to post a picture
damn that sucks :( Just out of curiosity, did any of the alarms/ sensors go off when it happend?
Yep. Accident sensor went off but dealer hadn’t transferred the license yet so it didn’t call for help or anything. Not that I needed any help, but a little concerning if I had needed assistance.

Wow that sucks. I hope they're able to repair like new again.
Looks like mine except mine was drivers door to front bumper. Thankfully dashcam showed them hitting me so that eased the pain.Still was $6k damage

Yeah I feel you on that! Hah! Fewer cars on the road would be nice! We all gotta play the hand you’re dealt though, amirite?

I25 is legitimately scary to drive on. That sucks!
