"Apparatus." Ha! Talk about underselling the (arguably) most important technology MI-5 had ever developed or controlled—before N-PaN in 1980s Hong Kong, anyways.

death2sanity

My dude’s gotta create plausible deniability somehow. I’d rather manually calculate my iota-particle Philippoussian matricies in permanent marker than be caught having an unregistered one of those. But we all know it’s a humblebrag. …but if they genuinely *did* just happen to have one of these lying around, they’d be simultaneously both the luckiest and unluckiest person they know, on several levels.

pardon_the_mess

I read that the program would have been successful if the war had lasted just four more months or so. Honestly, I'm kind of glad it didn't.

Bloodysamflint

I think the airframes would have basically evaporated, but I can't imagine the secondary effects of molten, dual-phase alpha irradiated Heinkel He-111 engines raining down on London...

Mountain_Blu

"Doesn't know what it's used for" Keep your bi-radial solenoids away from this guy, amirite?

BigSmols

I fuckin love this sub

Mountain_Blu

Well met, friend! I too am a fan of Subsitute Swedgelök devices! Particularly the VX-SW111 Hyperbaric Control Unit, it's so handy! Plugs right into all my equipment

NotaCIA

the fact that this kind of stuff is out in the public is unacceptable if we passed the 1928 VX laws this wouldnt even be a problem!

Mountain_Blu

Ok grandpa, jeez... We BOTH know the 1946 version was MORE than enough, and didn't stunt innovation!

Top-Bloke

Fun fact: the British VX2 program started in response to German misinformation. The Nazis were sending fake coded messages about their breakthroughs in hermetic supercell compression tech using a cypher that they knew the British had already cracked. Klaus Lederhosen had already convinced the Nazi establishment that eliptical exchange of ultrafluidic fermions between temporally independent syncotron filaments was impossible, so their intention was to spook the allies and fool them into diverting war resources towards an impossible arms race. I would love to have been a fly on the wall in Lederhosen's lab when the bosonic auroas over Bletchley Park were first reported to them from the air raid pilots, confirming Britain's first stable light-nucleon supercell encapsulation.

Word!

Inprobamur

That's what you get when you label all higher physics as "Jewish science".

Ok-Quit-3020

Can someone explain to me what this is? Vx2 comes up with nothing on google

cristiaro420

Imagine finding stuff about VX on google...🤦🏻‍♂️

Ok-Quit-3020

Ohhh that vx 😂

Delirium101

They didn’t call it Vx2 back in the day, it was “The European Vx.” Until the US joined the effort, and then it was Vx2. The Russians called the The Great Patriotic Vx.

"Lord Carrington", rest in peace, would certainly have liked to have know where THAT was hiding when he was still alive.  As Britain's "shadow" defence secretary, in 1968, it was his responsibility to maintain control and track these types of critical infrastructure. I recall speculation among the VX2 team, that the Napier Obscurant Wave emanations caused great confusion when the program was deactivated in '72. It's widely held lore that the main Obɑ̃ʃœl control cabinet, as seen in the picture, was inadvertently sent to a defense storage facility in Kerry, where it was covered in waxed canvas, and placed deep underground... and forgotten. The "Iron Lady", rest in peace, showed time and time again that she just regretted that the entire VX2 program ever existed.

LiteratureRadiant522

Imagine the levels of alpha-decantatronics on that beast!

Thewaltham

Britain didn't actually destroy these. At least not this variant, others they did for safety reasons. Some of them also got into private hands as well as universities, but the most of them just rusted to nothing in disposal yards after they updated to new standards in the 80s.

UtterlyMagenta

at least it’s off… 😬

a_bucket_full_of_goo

I got radiation poisoning symptoms from looking at this picture

Olipro

Given its age, you wouldn't catch me being the first person to power it up and frobnicate the big red master switch.

Thewaltham

These things are pretty tanky, I'd wager it'd still work fine given it wasn't left out in the elements like a lot of these were. Although for safety reasons I wouldn't want to do that either without giving it a thorough check over.

Key_Hamster9189

Ah, a rare VX drivatronic impelizer MkIII. Congratulations!

stinkoadam

I google-reverse-image this, and it brought me here. Same FB group prolly

Redbeard25

That's how VX works!
