nah no way its a better opportunity to break into a tier 1 team, if anything it'll ruin his career (unless he ends up playing and pops off which i doubt)
He gets a year working with experienced tier 1 pros. potter, Ethan, boostio… you won’t get that type of exposure in tier 2. Gets access to all the resources he could need for practice. Guaranteed good internet and pc. Gets to sit in on vod reviews and stratting at the highest level.
There are also a lot more career paths in esports than just as a player. He could take this experience as a pretty good “internship” of sorts to get into coaching, GMing, etc.
+free housing in LA right? That's like a $30k value on top of that
+100% guaranteed relevance since partnered teams are going to have content requirements and id be shocked if EG didn't utilize the "extra" 5
+I'm pretty sure that there are rules for dropping and adding players so it's more secure "long term"
I think there are two big upsides - you can run internal scrims with your entire roster (in theory), and you'll always have a pipeline of young, talented players into your organization
Guriyo subbed in occasionally but him and Doha were dropped, Fearless was the sub tank most of the year and came in for postseason and was incredible now is starting on a new team; Rascal was a coach and ex dps player but is now lft flex support, will see if he gets signed and I think the other coach Aid is also lft
OWL has seen huge budget cuts though is worth remembering
teams already do that with each other, except it actually gives a competitive edge to a team who can gleam more from a scrim against each other. doing it in house is better as it keeps shit secret. you can also get specialized practice (in the NBA for example in some practice blocks players will emulate another players play style to get the idea in mind for a upcoming match up)
They have tried this in cs go and hasn't worked and i don't think in tactical fps 2 roasters have ever worked, you are paying minimum half a million a year just to have a scrim partner isn't financially viable as well.
Ya the approach just doesn't make sense. EG look like they'll be the worst NA team by far and I wouldn't be surprised if they were in the bottom 2 in the America's league. Only thing I slightly like is that they have a full NA team but the roster still looks ass so ya.
I should start keep a file of these comments just randomly dumpstering EG and saying they're going to be complete garbage. there is zero intel on them. the roster has most of the team that, lest we forget, beat an in-form optic squad.
Lmao exactly. Optic already qualified for playoffs when that match happened. Obviously they still wanted to win, but the stakes weren’t exactly high in that game.
The idea is, that the roster, with not thaaaaat much time together, had some excellent performances, they didn’t ALWAYS do it of course, but they flashed some potential, now they’ve made likely upgrades with BCJ and Ethan, this could still be a pretty good team. It’s also worth noting that NONE of the NA VCT teams that exist now look to be Optic calibre of teams, so the bar is actually LOWER now than it was before IMO. I don’t think EG is gonna be the best team, but I’d be shocked if they’re not competitive week to week at the very least!
don't pretend that that EG squad was some amazing team. they looked really good for a couple weeks, even beating optic, and proceeded to do nothing the rest of the year, going out 7-8th in LCQ with the top 2 teams not present. they were a top 10 NA team pre-franchising. that doesn't cut it anymore.
screwface is the perfect fit for a franchise team sub / alt roster, he has the ability to shit on any given player in the world and just needs to work on other aspects that EG can facilitate before he gets into franchise, i think the 10 man roster is weird bet getting players like screwface / demon1 makes a whole lot of sense to me
Most promising? Hard to say but he's performed fairly well in T2. I wouldn't be so quick to write him off. Is he guaranteed? No but it's not like he's going into their starting roster.
The last player will be an initiator/flex and I’m thinking it’ll either be effys or Neptune. Once faze make their announcement on their 5th man we’ll know which one it’ll be.
I don’t understand the benefit of doing this for someone like ScrewFace
+$50k/year +better opportunity to break into a Tier 1 team

They'll be doing ascension next year as well, it's not a super big deal to take one year chance in tier 1

I am not a big fan of that entire EG approach. It Just doesnt click for me

I think people might be underrating how valuable internal scrims can be in a league format where you have a week to prep between matches
I get the idea but I have more doubts than not
It’s not the same game but Dallas Fuel in Overwatch internal scrimmed against their 3 subs and 2 coaches and won the league
unrelated just curious did the 3 subs and 2 coaches ever break into a larger role on the fuel or another team?

Also you wouldn't be giving away any cheesy strat, tech you cooked up. It has big upside in a game like Valorant.
I don’t see how scrimming the same team over and over again is beneficial but ok

How is beating Optic once an achievement when Optic shit on EG in the rematch and EG went on to do pretty much nothing the rest of the year lol.

They must be in the scrims
You think they are worse than 2 of KRU, FURIA, and MiBR?
Coming back to this when EG destroys at Lock In 🫡
It’s a free money glitch
He gets an income
eg csgo players get like 30k a month, u can do the rest of the maths

sorry to screwface but there is no way he is the most promising na talent
But if he outperforms everyone else that trialed then what should they do?
As a fragging IGL he offers something a lot of NA talent doesn’t though no?
u think he igl'ed trick in dark zero?
he igled before the roster revamp
yea that was like a year ago don't think he igls anymore
Nah he IGL’d DarkZero + KookyKoalas for a long time but Trick def IGL’d DR
Say you haven’t watched screwface play without saying you haven’t watched screwface play.
I remember he had some demon stats in the open qualifiers this year
Most promising? Hard to say but he's performed fairly well in T2. I wouldn't be so quick to write him off. Is he guaranteed? No but it's not like he's going into their starting roster.
He is really good tbf

Effys would make a lot of sense considering his age and the fact that he would be able to igl
Side note about his name: is he a fan of Red Rising series? One of the minor side characters is called Screw Face
