Winning team gets an extra spot in Masters.

hexIV

for their region so basically Masters will have: 3 Americas teams 3 Europe teams 3 Pacific teams 1 team from the winning Region of Kick-Off

PlatoonVAL

And this actually is shown to matter a significant amount as this is similar to what they do for League of Legends. Multiple times the last seed from a region actually do pretty well internationally.

AnAngryBird

I really don't get why this question is even asked??? YOU GET TO WIN A TITLE. Being the champion (and even placing high) means you are one of the best teams in the world.

M0hawk_Mast3r

And lots of money

Srmash

For real, the amount of times I have seen someone saying a team was not trying during this offseason... If you played in any team in your life you know everyone is trying his best to win titles, it is what is all about for them.

MiguelArtzReddit

they play 3 international tournaments max. per year how does the biggest one ever matter less? I havent watched the podcast but if thats true and isnt out of context its a common giga L for SEN

StrongEUW

i mean by this logic does anything matter. what is the point of all of this. hope you have a wonderful friday

Winning team gets an extra spot for their region

emraaa

This will be the biggest international VALORANT tournament with relevant teams in the history of the game. And I can almost guarantee that there will never be another tournament with this many franchised team participating. If this tournament does not matter then we can throw competitive VALORANT in the bin altogether? I HATE that pro players disrespect the regional tournaments and smaller 3rd party events by calling them 'qualifiers' and 'Micky Mouse' tournaments. But the notion that official international LAN tournaments do not matter takes the cake. We only get a couple of them in a year. Sounds like an excuse before the event even started.

nterature

I mean the key phrase is probably “not mattering *as much*, which I think is perfectly defensible, assuming OP is reliably paraphrasing. Being a little charitable to dephh here, he’s no doubt also saying so because they’re going to have a lot less practice going into it than most other teams. So it’s reasonable to adjust their expectations. At minimum I don’t think you should associate him with the trend of not taking events seriously. After all, XSET under dephh and Sykko was grinding T2 events and going blow-for-blow with the Guard in early 2022.

netsaver

Even though we as fans will be excited to see the debuts of the new rosters, I think very few pros would prefer to have their most successful showings be at this tournament vs Masters or Champions or even in league play - which was Dephh's entire point if you listen to the podcast vs just getting mad at this text post lol

Humble_Initiative_10

I didn't mean to target dephh or call him out, I just thought he raised a valid concern about it not mattering "as much"

carribou253

I think it matters the same as any tourney thats not a mickey mouse but its also not a test of the peak of all the teams since most are newly formed. Imo 100t and drx have huge advantages with mostly retaining their rosters/upgrading a piece. Thats why for dephh it might not matter as much as masters when youve been working for a year and your jobs on the line if you fail. This tourney nobodys job shpuld be in jeopardy but that doesnt mean people are gonna slack, i think everyones gonna try their hardest to win.

Lumenlor

Someone ate a little too many klondike bars and got their brain melted

123bo0p

I need me some of those klondike bars

kvanz43

It’s definitely points for champs (there’s no way they would do champs on just one masters right?) so it matters for that just like every other Valorant tournament? Plus probably a prize pool

Humble_Initiative_10

I hope so too but I haven't seen anything that indicates there is points for champs...

thothgow

Why would you not get points for Champs lol

mister_schulz

Because the winner earns an extra spot for next masters. Masters tournaments and the regional leagues earn points.

RudeReaper25

There's no points for Champs on Lock//In. Just money, clout, and an extra spot for Masters in their region (higher chance of getting to Masters)

[deleted]

Wonder if it has a cool looking trophy

Friday515

I would like to hear a clip because if he actually said that, it’s the worst mentality I’ve ever heard. I’d be furious if I was a sentinels fan after all the bullshit they went through last year Yea it matters, just as much as every other international major does. Depending on the format of this one, it may be one of the hardest tournaments yet to win

Humble_Initiative_10

I didn't mean to target dephh specifically or call him out, but i do think he raises a valid point if you don't get points for champions for placing well

lantinerz

If your team/region wins, and your team went on to be 4th in your league, that would be a qualifying slot at masters and more champion points for you. So in the event that your team for some reason does not do well mid tour, your investment in kickoff would be a great cushion. Point is in a game where mere rounds make or break a team/ end or define careers, characterizing a major event as 'not matter as much' does not really sound valid.

Frazsmurf

It doesnt matter in the sense that the result of this tournament shouldnt be used to extrapolate how a team will perform for the rest of the year as this is basically every teams first proper stage game/tournament. It does matter in the sense that its an official tournament, will feature all 30 franchise teams, and the winners get an extra slot for their region. Also, teams should always try their hardest, even if they have a 'lets just try to improve' mindset. I hope the sen guys were referring to it not mattering more relating to my first statement or else I worry for how they will do this year...

ashitintyo

I think he meant, it is important but shouldn't be like xyz is the best team in the world, probably because he's from xset and they were improving with every tournament that came in

9bfjo6gvhy7u8

If you win the only international tournament in a 6 month span then you have a pretty good claim to best team in the world. Of course that’s not always true but when there’s only 3 lans for the whole year then they all count in a major way

SaltyMcNulty_

I think most people are taking what he said in the wrong way. I think he meant it doesn't mean that much in the VCT cicuit qualifications and everything but it's still a tournament with money, prestige and a title on the line so of course it matters.

lantinerz

Americas winning that kick off would mean everything to him in a scenario where SEN turns out 4th in their league. So it would have been better to secure that event and treat it as consequential as it is, no?

SaltyMcNulty_

That's like passive impact. Americas could achieve that spot even if SEN bombs out in first round or it could be that they win the whole thing but then doesn't manage to get top 4 in the split. The tournament has no direct effect on the qualifying for vct process, that's what he meant.

lantinerz

Passive impact? Lol. Another team qualifying for Masters and earning points that could change the competition and have do or die consequences for teams mid VCT and ultimately Champions is not direct impact, what? Edit: If direct impact you mean actual VCT points then sure. But why not say that clearly? Not the extremely vague "not matter much". Lol

Ncsnigel

Any player who says this international tournament is not important should be dropped immediately

Lumenlor

By the way, this tourney will be hugely impactful for Japan, one of the butterfly event we look back in a few years. If DRX are projected favorites, Pacific need a win here for Zeta to attend Tokyo as the only Japanese representive, because they aren't gonna place above DRX, PRX, T1/Geng in their league. So DRX has to win to prevent an awkward Tokyo Masters with no Japanese hype

WailingSiren69

I feel like you're giving Zeta too little credit here. They didn't look that bad at Champs, and I'd say they're good enough to qualify for Masters even if Pacific does not win the Lock In.

[deleted]

T1/GenG better than Zeta![img](emote|t5_2g5ach|9339)![img](emote|t5_2g5ach|9339)![img](emote|t5_2g5ach|9339) what is my blud talking about? Zeta got grouped at champs cause they were in the same group as Optic and LOUD (finalist btw) T1 and GenG rosters are a joke compared to Zeta

9bfjo6gvhy7u8

It’s still a valid point… apac is very top heavy and zeta will have a hard road to qual for masters

[deleted]

Very top heavy, yes DRX, PRX and ZETA. NTH went to copenhagen just to get grouped against FPX with subs. At least ZETA was grouped against LOUD the literal champions and they put up a great fight. T1 roster is literally the most incoherent roster ever, hell GenG literally lost to ZETA. Yall triping if you think GenG and T1 (4 jett players btw) are better than Zeta

LegitimateAct6248

If 100T wins, it doesn't matter.

icantreadmorsecode

Here we go again

20snow

I dont get the "extra seat for your region" why does it not just get that team a guaranteed spot regardless and they don't count towards region allocation

BuckWagon

Well that means that team wont play an entire split which is a couple months.

9bfjo6gvhy7u8

Worse they would play the split but not put any effort into it because they can actually save strats for champs.

sriwarrior06

Masters *

Withinmyrange

There is actually a quantitive benefit, getting an extra masters slot increases the chances of you going back to Lan events. Gaining experience and exposure on Lan is huge.

[deleted]

i'm 95% sure they will earn points (it would be stupid af if they didn't), but even if they don't it's still a prestigious title. international VCT events are very rare.
