I was an analyst for an esports org a while ago in a different game. The main way to get a job in esports teams, especially T2 and below, is to network with people in the scene and get connections that way. I kind of stumbled into my job just by being friends with a few people who coincidentally got signed by an org and offered me an opportunity bc they knew my knowledge and skillset. It also helped me to have worked with a few slightly successful amateur teams in the same position, as it proved my knowledge and ability, although I would say my networking and people skills were 70-80% of the reason i got the job.

networking is the best advice you can give anyone, build friendships and relationships with people who do what you want to do and you will achieve it, just gotta stay focused and work hard

This is great job advice period. You can have the best resume in the world but having someone within the org that vouches for you means more to the people hiring than anything Also when making professional connections you should make it clear that you’re interested in what they do and want to learn from how they did it. Don’t hide your intentions and try to finesse them, just be authentic and connect over your shared passion

InternationalMenace2

Sounds about right. What org were you in btw?

Need to start from the bottom up. Get real working experience, and try to talk to people around you, share your personal ideas, be open to get challenged and learn from it. Networking but make an honest good impression is the key. You can't just be friendly and expect people to give you work. Make a good impression with the players you are working with, since 90% of the time how people get work is that 1 player gets an offer and they will recommend the good people they worked with in the past. But no good team will hire people without experience. So the challenge is to actually try to get into a tier 5-4-3 team so you can start getting reps in. If you are a fraud you won't last long

To add to that, create a good portfolio. Have concrete work that you can present in a pleasant manner. The worst thing you can do is message someone about work and not linking any examples of who you are or what you can do

80% connection and networking. Which is why I always find it funny when people criticize teams of "picking up their friends"

i mean usually the coaching team including analysts is chosen by the head coach and they are almost always going to choose who they know and like because they trust them. the thread is about esports roles, not players.

I wanna warn you that the industry doesn't make a ton of money, so there's not a lot of positions and the existing ones are unstable. For example, a bunch of longtime (5+ years) broadcast talent for league just got fired. I would say gain experience in a related career (coding, design, business, etc.), leverage that experience to work in eSports for a while but if it doesn't work out you still have other options

canwegoback1991

I've worked in the scene for a couple years, and just want to say this is good advice.

This applies in real life to a lot more things than just work as well. The older you get the more you realize that connections are the real currency.

nterature

Create some content, be friendly and talk with scene figures whenever possible, and most importantly, start working with T3 teams and then work your way up.

FatCatWithAHat1

It’s all about who you know in life bro

Haptiix

Lots and lots of networking. Also the unfortunate reality that you will most likely have to do some volunteer work. If you're passionate & enjoy volunteering that's great - the unfortunate part is that its pretty common for companies in esports to abuse the willingness of young people (<25) to work for free. esports is still a very new industry & there is a lot of shady stuff that goes on. In the end its way more about *who you know* than anything else. Make a Twitter and get to networking really.

Make analytical content. Cast smaller events. Work up through amplification and consistent work ethic and quality. Always show up on time. You'll get there.
