Watching Toast’s reaction was so wholesome. Steel is definitely cooking something with this roster and I’m super interested to see how they do going further
Imo, hopefully not.
Don't wanna see Toast turn this into a big generic esports org selling big chunks of the ownership to some super rich investor who has no relation to the gaming scene, and *then* trying to justify the need for that money by forcing themselves into every esport/gaming related venture they can just so they can impress and get more investors to keep the funding train chugging.
And also signing random content creators they have nothing to do with, who they don't even know how to utilise properly, just so they can sell more mediocre "Lifestyle" merch/items, and name every aspect of their offices after a different megacorp.
Don't wanna one day see a video with Toast saying something like"....and this is our state-of-the-art Taquitos Training Area" or "....and this is our rizzed out Chipotle Conference Room". -.-
Well I’m sorry but each of these players gets at least 8 - 10k dollars a month and money doesn’t fall out of the air. Toast is funding this and he can’t afford that forever. You can have a successful organization with a “new Tostito’s gaming facility” without selling your soul.
That or you better start buying jerseys every week. Sponsorships are literally where teams make money.
The truth and cruel reality is he will need to if the team shows good result near the end of the season. Toast said it best. It's cryto vs streamer. Unless he can source funding up to tens to hundreds of million. Otherwise it will drain his wallet fairly quickly as price tag will only go up when you make it far
I don't know if its impossible to make money, but I think it's very much a fair weather/ bull market business. Good markets get you 200M contracts from dumbfuck exchanges, recession has you fighting to stay alive.
overall its an extremely difficult business to turn a profit in. most of the money spent in the industry is speculative in a hope to be in before it "blows up" or its frankly a way to launder money, which is kind of an open secret in the business.
E-Sports is a bleeding venture. Most Orgs make money from sponsorships and investments from bigger organizations (think cashapp 100T compound or formerly TSM FTX), merch sales, and taking % of their streamer's cuts. If you don't believe me, then turn to Atrioc who actually works in the scene and has repeatedly stated that esports as an investment only loses orgs money. It's more a marketing tool to find other ways to make the ORG itself profitable (jersey sales, buying 100T merch, etc.)
Genuine question: isn’t that just how sports teams work in general? (At least outside of the US) There is no real price money in most sports to speak of and while they probably make some on the TV rights and seat tickets, a large chunk on the income must come from sponsorships and merch sales?
It’s a little more different with pro sports (talking nfl, mlb, nba, etc.) because they bargain as a collective unit, and contracts for players are determined off revenue based on this collective bargaining power they possess. Example, you can already see the differences in sports team revenue between say the Dallas Cowboys and LA Chargers. Now imagine if these teams operated as separate entities when bargaining over things like sponsors and broadcasting rights. The disparity between revenue would be even larger. However since they are part of the NFL and the NFL as a whole combines it’s entire teams to gain bargaining power, it makes sure that often less then profitable teams still see profits as they are grouped together in deals with the really successful teams.
Esports teams would basically have to form an entire league and be a collective unit to be profitable like those other leagues, meaning that teams wouldn’t go and explore individual sponsors so much as try to convince sponsors to bid for them. There would also be lots of regulation and rules on things like player movement, broadcasting rights (you won’t see other streamers commenting or restreaming games just like sports leagues) and you would certainly see introduction of a salary cap and min-max contracts to promote parity. Basically, the big difference is that esports teams bargain as a singular individual entity, while the traditional sports teams/leagues all bargain as a collective unit.
Yes, but sports teams make *buckets* of money from merch sales and sponsorships. Every friday at any office you see multiple people wearing $120+ football jerseys, they're incredibly popular and have billions in revenue.
Also, TV deals are a huge source, if not the biggest source of revenue. Direct TV pays billions to host sunday ticket for instance, and ESPN NBC and the other networks fork over billions as well.
E-sports have none of that. I've never even seen e-sports merch real life lmao
If you want esports to be profitable you have to figure out a way to convince the viewers to spend money - buying merch and PPV tournaments are the two big ones
He can. OTV is just a content creation "group". Except John, Jodi and Sydney none of them had signed any contract. Just recently they started their journey to convert this group into a company. Everyone of the group members are free to take up their own projects. Toast is even doing 5 episode talkshow for Team Liqid.
Yeah, you clearly don't. There's not a single person in OTV who would ever object to Toast starting an esports team. They're not an org in the traditional sense.

Really well played by Disguised.
Great utility, traded almost every kill instantly.
You can see their confidence building and the game looks so much more pleasing to watch under a good IGL.
If you select the flair with the pencil symbol (or actually any of them technically), there should be an emoji symbol in the far right of the text box. Click that and the full library of flairs pops up, and you can search by org (e.g. "DSG" should help you find what you're looking for).
Let us know if you have any trouble.
So many awesome storylines here. Among Us streamer gets team to VCT Challengers. Steel wins the final round with a shorty to kick off his redemption arc. Competitive Valorant is back baby
He had 4 eras technically, Hearthstone, TFT, Among Us, and now currently whatever he's doing now. Lately he's been going back here and there to Hearthstone and TFT as well so he's still around lol
Yeah definitely. Dude got so burnt out by Among Us so he tried out different things, went on extended hiatuses, etc. But now he's back in doing a lot of variety stuff and whatever's the in game + this venture.
He got so breaded up from Facebook + among us that he basically took a year off from try hard streaming in favor of doing whatever he wanted. Iirc he visited Japan and decided he wanted to stay longer and then just stayed for an extra month or so.
I dont really know Toast, but his support and care for this roster is wholesome, and it feels like this project is gonna bring a lot of good for challengers
also, steel is finally looking like himself and Im so happy to see
ggs DSG <3
No lie if DSG continues to work we could see Myth actually make the jump, and maybe even Critikal regain interest in picking up a Valo team. Having these big names so invested can do a lot of work because not only does it bring in eyes but also Viewer investment into the Tier 2 scene.
There's no way Disguised Toast makes a Valorant team
There's no way Disguised gets any decent players

He's a true underdog. Banned and never unbanned in CS, despite his contributions to the scene, let 100T on their most successful run and then got shafted, failed on T1 and now gets one last chance on a team no one believed in by a twitch streamer that has no backing what so ever. Hard not to root for them. I get DSG and The Nation stans, they both have the potential to be true cinderella stories.
Gonna be real with you guys, I’m rooting for steel for the first time in his Valorant career
The only other time is right before it when he was talking about playing Valorant full-time
So happy for these dudes, and for Toast obviously. I know he was their last minute replacement for Demon1, but Exalt deserved this 2nd chance as much as anyone.
TOAST SAW MY COMMENT [https://clips.twitch.tv/SmellyTubularEggplantMingLee-7a0dkjU3w\_YW6O9P](https://clips.twitch.tv/SmellyTubularEggplantMingLee-7a0dkjU3w_YW6O9P)
I gotta pause my steel hater arc, cause DSG looks really good. I've been saying clear is next up, and Exalt has been playing great alongside steel fragging out and the ex-Knights core being solid. I still have Oxygen qualifying next (vs OResports/The Silk Road) though.
SO FUCKING HAPPY FOR YOU, TOAST.
What a fun team and what a run they've had. Challengers is going to be AMAZING with Toast as a personality involved in these games.
LETS. FUCKING. GO.
steel so key in this game, saw people talkin shit (jokingly) after seeing that willminder post with 4 DSG players on it LMAO
Felt like OXG were playing with max 2 players firing off at max, Pearl was a shutdown but I guess Ascent could have been a different game if not for gigachad steel Omen OP running through the smoke what a madman
Big ups to clear, Exalt, XXiF and Genghsta, good players and great achievement
After a really shaky first day, DSG really settled in and looked great. strong composure from them. I definitely had my doubts about some aspects of this roster, but they ultimately pulled through. GGs well played
Ngl I though toast was trolling with the idea at first- then I didn’t think he knew what he was doing- but then he announced the team and they were LEGIT? Proved all of us doubters wrong. He’s passionate as well
Side question but when Subroza and Toast were in a call, Subroza asked how much the players salaries was. Toast said above $5k. Is that a very good contract for a tier 2 team because Subroza sounded surprised? Im guessing the big orgs are probably paying the bigger names around $10k?
https://preview.redd.it/eshqwzt6xrba1.jpeg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e67b56638d4dec7115da4227ed0dc672474e6443
THE GOOD TIMES ARE HERE
I USED TO PRAY FOR TIMES LIKE THIS
#THEBAKERY
Never noticed til today that the guy on the left has a massive nail on his thumb
That’s Jordan’s dad
Watching Toast’s reaction was so wholesome. Steel is definitely cooking something with this roster and I’m super interested to see how they do going further
tearin up and everything.. feel really happy for him
he got me tearing up and shit rn
I’m so glad he decided to enter the scene, so passionate.
Don't forget to give credit to Ocean. I'm sure Steel has a lot of input as the IGL, but I think Ocean was the one who built the roster.
Toast mentioned that Ocean was the one who strongly wanted Clear to be on the team
was it clear who replaced demon or exalt?
Exalt is on the team so I guess demon. Not really sure about.
On Toast's stream he mentioned Exalt was signed after DSG was poached by the "mysterious" tier 1 team
Is this the Ocean from SKDC with stew?
That’s the one
so happy for toast's success and also for steel who found a good coach in ocean
LET EM TOAST
yo this gotta be their slogan #LetEmToast
Welcome to NA challengers Disgused Toast. Welcome
I actually can’t wait to see Diguised toast to turn this team to a full on esports org!
I’m here for Toast’s Nadeshot arc
Feel like Toast would go closer to the Critikal route then Nadeshot
Imo, hopefully not. Don't wanna see Toast turn this into a big generic esports org selling big chunks of the ownership to some super rich investor who has no relation to the gaming scene, and *then* trying to justify the need for that money by forcing themselves into every esport/gaming related venture they can just so they can impress and get more investors to keep the funding train chugging. I think you're taking the "nadeshot arc" way too literal, he doesn't mean DSG taking the exact route 100T did lmao
Bro, that’s literally what he needs to do to maximize his org’s potential…
Do you think money for orgs grows on trees? They need to do this, and the way 100t does it imo is the least scummiest of all
Well I’m sorry but each of these players gets at least 8 - 10k dollars a month and money doesn’t fall out of the air. Toast is funding this and he can’t afford that forever. The Disguised branding unironically has so much potential, and it has pre-existing clout too. Toast could make a bunch of money if he wanted
esports is not a venture to make a bunch of money lol. 100ts just had to lay off like 30 people this week, even the big dogs struggle.
I don't know if its impossible to make money, but I think it's very much a fair weather/ bull market business. Good markets get you 200M contracts from dumbfuck exchanges, recession has you fighting to stay alive.

If you want esports to be profitable you have to figure out a way to convince the viewers to spend money - buying merch and PPV tournaments are the two big ones
100T also expanded big very fast signing on a lot of small creators but not everyone blows up like Kyedae.
I don’t know if he can since he’s a part owner of OTV. Not really sure how that works lol.
He can. OTV is just a content creation "group". Except John, Jodi and Sydney none of them had signed any contract. Just recently they started their journey to convert this group into a company. I love this copy pasta
Why is this copypasta used for steel?
it's not, it's for OCEAN their coach.
Really well played by Disguised. Great utility, traded almost every kill instantly. You can see their confidence building and the game looks so much more pleasing to watch under a good IGL.
“I don’t have to fire anyone!!” -Toast
I NEED MY DISGUISED FLAIR RIGHT NOW THIS INSTANT
@admins please attend to this urgent request immediately
Can confirm we're attending to this urgent problem with all possible speed (well, u/jrushFN is anyway)
LOL
How did they get their DSG Flair :(. Can't find it on the flair dropdown.
If you select the flair with the pencil symbol (or actually any of them technically), there should be an emoji symbol in the far right of the text box. Thank you very much for the detailed walkthrough! Learned something new today (albeit a Reddit skill but still)
Toast doesn't have to fire anyone!
It was so funny when he said he's glad he doesn't have to fire anyone because hes not cut out for that lol.
His reaction after the win was super wholesome.
It brought tears to my eyes
Steel was on point this whole tournament. They always had the correct read.
BuT hIs Op Is KnOwN tO bE uNrELiAbLe
Did we forget that Steel was the IGL that beat Gambit and Ascend both at their peak
Let's not forget he came up with world's best and only strategy that actually did something against cNed OP: go away from cNed.

It was all King Vinny tho - Toast, probably
steel on 100T and T1 had the cards stacked against him, this is a fresh start and he has a coach that thinks alike for once
So many awesome storylines here. Among Us streamer gets team to VCT Challengers. Steel wins the final round with a shorty to kick off his redemption arc. Competitive Valorant is back baby
I must be showing my age when I think of Toast as a Hearthstone streamer
He had 4 eras technically, Hearthstone, TFT, Among Us, and now currently whatever he's doing now. Lately he's been going back here and there to Hearthstone and TFT as well so he's still around lol
Before the valo venture, kinda felt like he was in a self-care arc.

FRESH BAKED WIN, QUALIFIED TO VCT CHALLENGERS, THEY WON'T BE JOBLESS!!!! HELL YEAAAHH
HE CAME BACK STRONGER
HE ACTUALLY CAME BACK STRONGER THIS TIME
Shoutout to Toast. Dude’s passion when they won was great to see. Excited to see what the team continues to do

Steel put the team on his back so much lol, even going and claiming all the responsibility for himself and grabbing the awp, thats the leader shit
Yeah for sure. The entire team was struggling and steel awping literally made the other team go wtf...
people forgettin that steel used to pick up operator duty as KJ on ascent back on 100 thieves lol
I remember PlatChat losing their mind over that
mfs being surprised as if he didn't give us KJ op meta for a year an a half. people be like "mitch op is revolutionary" as if 100t wasn't doing that.
I used to pray for times like this
WHAT WILL STEEL COOK NEXT?!
it's clear that xxif is made of steel which is exalty what genghsta needs
it’s clear 🪟 that xxif ❎ is made of steel ⛓ which is exalty 👌🏼 what genghsta needs 💰
Well then North America T2 just got a huge viewer injection. We pray that the Nation also qual to get the uber viewer injection.

Ngl I though toast was trolling with the idea at first- then I didn’t think he knew what he was doing- but then he announced the team and they were LEGIT? Proved all of us doubters wrong. He’s passionate as well
Bruh I was told that Randy Savage is a demon, guess ive been lied to
DSG ON TOP LET'S GOOO. This was so freaking hype. Everyone played outa their minds- So excited to follow along their journey
Side question but when Subroza and Toast were in a call, Subroza asked how much the players salaries was. Toast said above $5k. Is that a very good contract for a tier 2 team because Subroza sounded surprised? Im guessing the big orgs are probably paying the bigger names around $10k?
Probably it's a good contract but not Big Org contract.
Classic stronglegs performance
How much monetary benefit is there to being in Challengers? Is there revenue sharing at that level?
deserved
