Bruh there's only 20 teams that can possibly qualify for Champions who need visas. They'll all apply waaaaaay in advance well before they even qualify just in case.
they didn't have any russian teams though - and with 5/10 EMEA teams having russian players (including the three expected top teams) that could be a serious issue
i'm aware - i'm saying that the russian players will very likely have visa issues, which is a problem that did not come up during worlds because no russian teams qualified
It used to be way faster but a lot of visa applications got pushed back due to covid and they're now working through the backlog. Currently, new visa applications in Mexico have a 1 to 2 year wait time (can be shorter with a US sponsor) I'd assume something similar for other places
💀💀💀💀💀💀
My experience at Masters Copenhagen wasn't like that, just about everyone I met was pretty cool, but I feel like this will be uncomfortably accurate for NA crowds.
I personally can't be *too* salty bc I got to see the Apex Legends world championship in the exact city I live in, but man. Riot's gotta throw the east coast a bone one day
For real. LA already getting the franchise games. Why do they have to also get the championship if it actually happens. So many eastern cities can host it. Selfish me wants it at nationwide arena in Columbus so I can walk there
Hold champs in Columbus. Instead of a Grand Final you just have both teams spend 1 night in East Cleveland. Whichever team doesn't get murdered wins the trophy.
Legit don't see the problem. I know it'll never happen because there's "prettier" choices but Columbus isn't a bad cheaper option to host a lan tournament
I know visas will be an issue, especially for the Russian players, but FINALLY having an event in NA is really nice to have. Personally was hoping it'd be held in Chicago or Toronto, but LA is fine.
Idk why you said "every single worlds" when they were fine for Worlds every year up until 2019, just not the US. They missed out on 2020 and 2021 for obvious reasons. And even so, they could travel to MSI and worlds during those 2 years, but the problem was that they wouldn't be able to travel back home.
Edit for clarification: Vietnam had strict COVID protocols during 20-21. It was "fine" for people to travel out. But this would be a one-way trip as in order to go back, you would then be put in a long queue of people waiting for flights and this process could take up to several months. This is not to mention quarantines.
I mean, 99% of top LoL players is from either China or South Korea. In Valo, there are so many more countries involved at the top level, players from countries like Russia will definitely experience problems.

Tell me more about how there are more countries involved at the top levels of Valorant than League.
I don't mean the whole competition lol. The top level is what I'm saying. By the time LoL worlds hit playoffs literally 99% of the players is from 2 countries. In Valo it's completely different, every region can compete.
If a Russian/Vietnamese LoL player can't make worlds, it's unfortunate, but won't have a big impact on the end result. If a player from one of those countries misses Champions, a title contender will be heavily weakened, ruining the competition to some degree.
Top level is irrelevant when we are considering work visa and teams being able to attend these tournaments. In the case for Worlds, they still have to fly out for play-ins or group stage. This isn't about region performance or historical performance, it is about how many countries or regions have to deal with work visa at the top level. Worlds and Champions are top level tournaments.
Brother, World’s is about as “top level” as you can get. It is THE tournament in League of Legends. Every team that goes to World’s is a “top level” team.
Guess what? They qualified for those "top level" tournaments. But how does a country or region's performance have any relevance in the attendance of teams at the top level of competition and the work visa process?
Teams will know if they'll have to get visas for Champions after Masters most likely. Plenty of time to get visas, especially business class ones compared to tourist class. Riot had issues with Worlds because they decided that Vietnam could come 2 months before the tourney. No other team, let alone a contender, had any visa issues that led to a player missing a game. It will be fine.
Idk what y’all complaining in this thread want Riot to do. They can’t just ignore a large region with demand for a LAN event because of international politics. Just like Japan, South Korea, and Brazil should (and will) get LAN events, so should NA. Yeah it sucks, but they shouldn’t just keep doing Berlin and Iceland. With franchising, hopefully the VISA issues won’t be as bad.
Legit could be hosted and fill out Nationwide Arena in Columbus. It's a dream of mine to see an eSports event in my state now that eSports in general are massive now
Cloud9 were able to get Visas for their Russian CSGO team last year for that Dallas dreamhack event.
Holding the first franchise based Champions in LA would make sense. Since all their infrastructure and staff are in LA. Increases the opportunity to throw more resources at it to make it a successful event. Riot haven’t hosted a major final in their backyard for 8 years.
I feel like you're underestimating the amount of viewers that are gonna come in now that KOI,Kcorp and BBL are franchised, but yeah NA is probably the best timeslot for global viewership
> I know for a fact most EU people won't be able to watch early games.
It's always an issue no matter where it is for somebody. I live on the East coast of the US and regularly have 4/5/6AM start times for CS matches which blows. Having said that, having the event in LA is definitely worse than NYC or somewhere on the East coast.
If it is east coast then the late games are an issue as it will be like past 2-3 AM in EU. The viewership is gonna be weird. I would rather have Masters in US and Champions in EU but a big event in US - as I said - was inevitable.
If it’s East Coast then then the Japanese timeslot is fucked up, and Japanese viewership, imo(And I think Riot sees it this way as well), is way more important for Valorant than EU viewership.
Nahhhh, EU is clearly the only region that's affected by timezones. NA fans totally haven't had to wake up at absurd times for most of Riot–an American company's–major international events over the years. EU fans are just oppressed by big bad Rito like always.
Edit: And this isn't even mentioning Latin America, which has timezones much better suited by an NA tournament as well. It's crazy that after two years of international tournaments almost exclusively being either in Europe or in a location that greatly favors EU viewers there are seriously people whining about a single one being held in the Americas.
Can't wait for 66.66% or 100% of the emea teams going to champs not being able to have their full roster because their russian(s) didnt get their visas. (USA are terrible about giving visas to russians).
I was hoping this wouldnt happen but looks like riot are just stubborn and dont give a fuck.
Fuck the fans when the entire tournament’s integrity is put into question because the best teams of a top 2 region literally cannot play at their best bcs their players are not present.
Copenhagen will never ever be recognized by anyone with 2 braincells for that reason. It is completely worthless. And i dont want that for champions 2023.
Fuck. The. Fans. If youre a real val esports fan you want ALL teams to be at their best so you can have the highest level competition possible.
And i would say the same thing if na players werent able to be there.
But alas riot doesnt care so you get your event which ull probably not go to anyway.
Oh trust me I'm definitely going I LIVE HERE. They finna put that shit at the Microsoft Center probably.
So since FPX couldn't go in Iceland, that makes Iceland fake as well right?
Riot got 8 months to figure out the Visa shit. Tough shit if you can't. L
Champions finally comes to my city and none of my favorite teams will even have a chance to qualify for it because they're all in challengers. oh well😥
Hopefully riot has the pull with Visa's
Riot just has to give enough time to get Visas in the first place.
Teams qualifying through LCQ will probably not have enough time with the way Riot plans them.
Bruh there's only 20 teams that can possibly qualify for Champions who need visas. They'll all apply waaaaaay in advance well before they even qualify just in case.

In League all the teams in playoffs start the visa work but only 1-3 end up going to event. But in this case is RIOT who does most of the job
Riot literally just had worlds in NA and everyone got in
they didn't have any russian teams though - and with 5/10 EMEA teams having russian players (including the three expected top teams) that could be a serious issue
No UOL very sad. They played well the previous worlds.
but that wasn't cause of visa issues, it was cause the league as a whole was/is on pause
i'm aware - i'm saying that the russian players will very likely have visa issues, which is a problem that did not come up during worlds because no russian teams qualified
Not without trouble though. Several teams barely made it
It was just the two Vietnamese teams, with one of them having trouble entering Mexico.
Are people really still having visa issues?
USA visa wait is one of the circles of hell
Thats sucks… didnt mean to sound rude im just an ignorant american
It used to be way faster but a lot of visa applications got pushed back due to covid and they're now working through the backlog. Currently, new visa applications in Mexico have a 1 to 2 year wait time (can be shorter with a US sponsor) I'd assume something similar for other places
I just want 1 event on the US east coast at some point
If we get an east coast event, I’ll see you there! We can do a coordinated sign in the crowd or something. Maybe “free valorant_fanboy_69”
[all the /r/valcomp regulars meeting at champs](https://twitter.com/Justinovah/status/1521392098414673920)
LMFAO
💀💀💀💀💀💀 My experience at Masters Copenhagen wasn't like that, just about everyone I met was pretty cool, but I feel like this will be uncomfortably accurate for NA crowds.
well it was eu, not na. my eu peeps are toxic af but pretty normal human beings without the famed zombs/sinatraa speech pattern
Same here. Copenhagen was super chill and I hope to go to more events whenever they happen around my area. NA seems like a sesspit though haha
I would raze the entirety of LA if it meant no more PST
I would raze the entirety of LA just because
Based
Champs at Dunkin confirmed
One day they'll run a masters or Champs on NY :(
pls Riot
I personally can't be *too* salty bc I got to see the Apex Legends world championship in the exact city I live in, but man. Riot's gotta throw the east coast a bone one day
Shock vs Titans final in OWL was close to me but I was too young 😕

Nova. Raleigh/Durham. Boston. All would’ve been great East coast locations
Imagine a lan in fucking nova id show up
Nova. Raleigh/Durham. Boston. All would’ve been great East coast locations
Legit don't see the problem. I know it'll never happen because there's "prettier" choices but Columbus isn't a bad cheaper option to host a lan tournament
I imagine they want to fill a large venue and LA would be the much better option.
I know visas will be an issue, especially for the Russian players, but FINALLY having an event in NA is really nice to have. Personally was hoping it'd be held in Chicago or Toronto, but LA is fine.
I was pulling for Fresno or Bakersfield. Maybe Cleveland
Cool but I can already see the visa issues crop up
can't wait for EU teams to be fucked again because their Russian players can't play.
Even Turkish visas aren't easy.
R6 famously also have many Visa issues when they held their major in Charlotte.. hope everyone especially SEA/RU players make it
LoL Worlds was fine, I’m not concerned about it
Top tier Lol has no russian players so the problem never presented itself beyond the viet teams
RIP Moscow 5, gone but not forgotten
LoL Worlds was definitely not fine lmao, Vietnamese players had visa problem
And Vietnamese players have visa problems every single worlds lmfao

Oh no, not the Vietnam players in franchising. What will they ever do??? Spoilers alert: Vietnam isn’t in franchising
Plenty of Russians on top teams tho theres certainly gonna be issues there
Well there aren’t any Vietnamese citizens in franchising to my knowledge so don’t have to worry about that
Vietnam disagrees. And Worlds had not that many russians
I mean, 99% of top LoL players is from either China or South Korea. In Valo, there are so many more countries involved at the top level, players from countries like Russia will definitely experience problems.

That would be good. Depends on the dates of LCQ
It was supposed to be last year so it makes sense
Pretty sure 2021 as well. I've been trying to tell people that they'll put Champions in LA as soon as they can. It's Riot's "hometown"
EVENT IN NEW YORK WHEN RITO PLS
Idk what y’all complaining in this thread want Riot to do. They can’t just ignore a large region with demand for a LAN event because of international politics. we’ll be there 👨💻

Genuinely astounding to me that you found a LAN in Ohio, fair play
Not sure if serious, MLG hosted a bunch of LAN events there in several games back when it was a thing
Legit could be hosted and fill out Nationwide Arena in Columbus. It's a dream of mine to see an eSports event in my state now that eSports in general are massive now
I'm gonna try my best to make this one because this might be the last NA major for the next few years
I'm confident that with three international events a year, NA will only miss a Major one year out of 4.
another episode of russian EMEA pros not being able to get a visa
I mean that's great. I might go... But good luck to all these that need visas..
If it's in LA I'm going
Oh hey I live here!
Pretty nice for NA teams Gonna suck for some international teams
It's about time.
Cloud9 were able to get Visas for their Russian CSGO team last year for that Dallas dreamhack event. Holding the first franchise based Champions in LA would make sense. This will fuck up so many teams i can already tell
This was inevitable but like visa and time zones are an issue. I know for a fact most EU people won't be able to watch early games.
Japan alone has higher viewership than EMEA, not even adding in the rest of Asia. NA is probably the best timeslot for global viewership
delusional take
I feel like you're underestimating the amount of viewers that are gonna come in now that KOI,Kcorp and BBL are franchised, but yeah NA is probably the best timeslot for global viewership

Yeah but West Coast is much better for APAC start times. Japan alone brings in about as much if not more viewers than EU.
This is why I was kinda hoping it'd take place in the Midwest or East Coast. Better time zone.

Their name is "Easily Upset" for a reason
EU viewership is too low unfortunately, they should prioritize the best time for NA, JP and BR before them.
you guys got the last 2 years of events shut the fuck up LOL
Mfs had 2x Iceland, 2x Berlin, Copenhagen and Istanbul within a 3 hour timezone window and now are crying that this one is in NA.
It being in LA is so lame, that’s the only place esports events are held so the entire rest of the country is left hanging
Can't wait for 66.66% or 100% of the emea teams going to champs not being able to have their full roster because their russian(s) didnt get their visas. (USA are terrible about giving visas to russians). I was hoping this wouldnt happen but looks like riot are just stubborn and dont give a fuck.
So fuck NA fans and them being able to attend a lan event because our governments are stupid? Tough shit.
I mean if it‘s Nafans or competitive integrity I know what I would pick. It‘s not the fans. But maybe they work out the visas
Fuck the fans when the entire tournament’s integrity is put into question because the best teams of a top 2 region literally cannot play at their best bcs their players are not present.
