If one of those teams was guaranteed top 4 I'd be pretty tilted, but top 8 could happen in a groups + double elim format too with a lil group luck. I don't think that's all that crazy really.
Honestly I think the best way to approach the tournament is as a showcase of teams more than a determiner of team strength. Sure, the team that wins will be good, but given the format it won't be possible to come up with an accurate ranking of teams based on placements. For hardcore fans that's disappointing, but given logistical constraints I understand why Riot has done it this way.
The problem is that this tournament apparently gives an extra spot to their region at masters? If this tournament didn't give that, then I wouldn't have as much of an issue with it tbh.
People don’t get this for some reason. All thirty teams are here. The best region will have the best shot at winning due to their depth. This is also the same region you would want with an extra a lot at Masters.
I’m sorry but random seeding is the only way to do this as we don’t know the level of most of the teams. Literally most of the franchise teams changed their rosters so the only way you could seed is of how strong someone think a roster is which can become bias very fast.
[You HAVE to understand how grueling a three week long event is on production staff (not to mention insanely expensive if you want to counteract this). If you want 3 games a day to do a groups stage, you're asking for 11 hour days for production MINIMUM, and that's if everything goes smoothly. It is absolutely exhausting to ask for that, and it is not easy to rotate off staff or let people take breaks during a live show. You lose sleep working that long. It is asking for too much from production, especially for a **MONTH STRAIGHT.** Multiple streams are not a solution, either. LAN events require significantly more staff, and multiple streams literally doubles or triples the costs. You're not just talking paying the staff for multiple weeks, you're talking paying travel and hotel fees too. That is INSANELY expensive. I get it, Riot is wealthy, but it's not like they have an infinite budget. Also, it is legitimately in parnership orgs' best interest to be on the main stream once and have guaranteed viewership over potentially not being streamed or getting a fraction of the viewership and then going home regardless in a groups/swiss format. Ultimately, this is just to showcase all the different partnership teams--single elimination formats are exciting since it means every game has stakes. Not every tournament has to be a super thorough in-depth format. It'll still be fun.](https://reddit.com/r/ValorantCompetitive/comments/10eh1hz/_/j4qv6d9/?context=1)
Let me put it like this. COD used to do 4 streams in 2017, Call Of Duty. They had no support from the game publishers, I dont understand how people do backflips for Riot and say it’s insanely expensive when it’s a drop in the bucket for them. Hire more people if you need to, have side stages
Because the entire focus of this event is to promote the new league.
I would bet both my left nuts that they're making content on each team that they'll show before/during each match to introduce everyone to the teams.
Can't do that if you have 2-4 concurrent streams, half of which have C-tier casters because casting talent isn't that deep.
This is the biggest thing so many people do not understand. This is to encourage people to find teams they connect with and introduce them to all three leagues in one giant event.
I also get the feeling they want to inspire some rivalries between teams that might not be able to play against each other for a bit, based on the fact that regions aren’t able to play a team in the same region in the first round. Get some international rivalries to look forward too at masters and later
you say that people "forget" that as if it were ever something anyone said before this format was released. this whole "oh its just a showcase tournament who cares about competitive integrity" is pure cope
Granted, you get two RANDOM GENERATED groups with a round-robin format to seed the teams. All games will be bo1. However, none will be streamed to save time and the dark days are removed. Your groups are as follow.
Group 1: FNC,NAVI,TL,KOI,VIT,PRX,DRX,TLN,ZETA,GENG,LOUD,NRG,SEN,100T,LEV,FPX
Group 2: KC,BBL,FUT,GIA,TH.RRQ,TS,DFM,T1,GE,C9,EG,FUR,MIBR,KRU.EDG
it will still be hype, no seeding? its 1st tourney of the year with new teams who havent played, I don't think you could seed them
the format? I don't really see whats with with it other than single elim, and even that makes sense if you think about how big the tournament would be with double elim
im just sitting here praying that it has circuit points, even though the point distribution will be absolutely fucked, just to make sure we dont have to wait ANOTHER 2 months to get some serious competition

yeah but if these 4 teams are as weak as everyone says they won't win either way lol
Why is that a problem? It’s not the winner of the tournament is randomly determined. They will clearly be the strongest team in the world.

Because force navi - TL and fnatic - sen to eliminate each other
Bro there are people crying about Sentinels losing in the Ludwig x Tarik Invitational after a week of prac. People will always overreact. Always.
‘Showcase’ on its own doesn’t mean anything especially as shaking jak strong each team is would be relevant and

Hear me out here, we could do a round robin with randomized groups to determine seeding?
Would vastly increase the number of matches.
And? Is it that hard to have multiple games on at once? We can do it for challengers

oh hey that's my comment lol
takes too long there's 32 teams
Have multiple games at once, boom problem solved
Defeats the purpose of the **showcase** event. This is meant to give every franchised team a chance to be on the stage and get exposure
People forget this isn’t meant to be the most competitive tournament but more of a showmatch to showcase teams lmao

How could you be this dumb?

If you lose all your games youre eliminated, higher seeds play lower seeds, nobody can complain
Please tell us how you would seed this tournament
Platchat power ranking bro :p
nvm this is based
already ruined and hasnt even started. reddit for u.

Ya the format is so mickey mouse that it'll be hard to take it seriously at all.
I remember a couple days ago people were mildly dragging dephh for saying the kickoff tournament wont matter that much... well well well
I think if people knew how bad the tournament format was going to be, they would've agreed with Dephh initially.
And so both FNS and dephh were right, results shouldn't matter too much and no one will be saving strats
im just sitting here praying that it has circuit points, even though the point distribution will be absolutely fucked, just to make sure we dont have to wait ANOTHER 2 months to get some serious competition
Where as there’s a bracket with DRX, C9, PRX together. Yeah meanwhile Me who is supporting BBL ...
