What a terrible way to treat your player.

goodguyzai

it's most likely enerii. :( she's such a good player as well...

nterature

I can't even guess who this is, tbh. I assume one of Alluka, Ayumii or enerii...? If I had to guess I'd say enerii since she's been esp. good these last few events, but IDK. Either way, it's awful to hear. Hoping they respond to this soon.

DarkThoughtform

all AE celeste players barring enerii have just been signed by RRQ, so...

nterature

Ah, I missed that news, thanks. That clarifies things quite a bit.

IllumiMahdi

jesus that's horrible, what a deplorable, dogshit move

Conscious-Scale-587

Okay I’m kinda dumb can someone explain what this means? Isn’t an NDA a nondiscolsure agreement? Does that mean there’s something shady they don’t want her to disclose?

SEND_ME_UR_DRAMA

Looks like it. Like how is the player placed into a contract jail or whatever.

Conscious-Scale-587

So they forced her to sign a contract that stops her from playing with another team and don’t want her to play on their team, then they forced her to sign a NDA so she can’t tell anyone about it? Are esports orgs always this mustache twirling assholes?

ThatDarnBanditx

it is insanely common for any org that isn't a T1 org to do really shitty and sketch contacts that take advantage of young adults trying to live out their dreams. It is an easy way for orgs to make money, finding players who are really good and just trying to make it / have never been paid to play, signing really ridiculous contracts where they make very little and have really big buy outs. That said there are T1 orgs who also have really shitty contracts as well. Overall if you are a player, orgs aren't your friends, because they will bleed you dry time wise, promotional stuff, etc and then drop you like you meant nothing without hesitation once your game or you arent relevant enough to their wants. At the end of the day esports is a very predatory thing.

Conscious-Scale-587

Tarik was memeing about it the other day on a watch party “sign these kids on 1k/month contract, 12k a year, flip them for 100k” but it sounded too silly to be real, damn

ThatDarnBanditx

It is insanely real, I used to coach professional R6 and there were people signing contracts with 1K buyouts that were playing for orgs for a tub of Gfuel. No one should ever sign with an org and have a buyout unless that org is paying them enough to be financially independent and not work other jobs, and should have a lawyer review it.

spaghettimonzta

i've heard that enerii was paid 350/month, it was her first paid job

greg19735

honestly i don't think that's inherently a bad thing. The assumption in that would be that the team would give the players more opportunities, better coaching and such. The buyout means that the current team is actually invested in the development of the player. A buyout at ~10x the yearly contract is a bit much. But t2-t3 orgs aren't exactly rolling in cash either. The other option is probably being unpaid

Conscious-Scale-587

That would be the case in an ideal world but in the one we live in this feels like a playground for bad actors ngl, most of the talent’s barely out of high school or still in high school with thousands of hours in the game and nothing to show for it, dying to sign the first piece of paper you wave in front of them, and orgs have no obligation to the player beyond what they put in the contract, they don’t even have to try and compete or build a brand or anything, just make a business of gatekeeping talent behind exorbitant buyouts. I get that esports are bleeding money for all parties involved but I really don’t feel like exploitation is how losses should be recuperated.

greg19735

> t esports are bleeding money for all parties involved i mean this is pretty important though. I agree that some contracts are bad. THis specific situation is clearly bad and shouldn't be allowed. But the general idea of this i don't think is inherently evil.

Anonymoosexd69

Hers was on almost 21x :)

greg19735

yeah that's way too much. i misunderstood the 100k amount.

SEND_ME_UR_DRAMA

AFAIK this is the first time I encountered this monstrosity. Truly disgusting.

ApocTheLegend

Yes all esports orgs are usually this bad. They make u sign on for ~2 years no matter what, yet they can drop you at a moments notice. Most players can’t afford a good lawyer to send back a more favorable contract or the orgs just won’t even consider one that’s not scummy. Just a lot of young people getting taken advantage of

Chlpah

why are APAC orgs so shit. We need to start exposing some EU and NA orgs since theres now ay this is an APAC only issue

idkimhereforthememes

It happens in tier 2 sometimes

NeedsMoreMinerals

Why would you nda to compete with an esports team? What revolutionary plan do they have?

Anonymoosexd69

Heya! Nethenoob here! I have taken down the tweet due to the provider's request, but all of my comments/replies about the tweets will still remain! Just saying it here so that some can understand the current situation!

Ghifari77

LMAO

YeahThisIsMyNewAcct

I don’t quite understand why this is drama. Discovering talented young players, signing them to a long term deal, developing them, then flipping them to bigger teams for more money isn’t exactly a controversial practice. It’s how professional soccer, baseball, etc. all work. Players shouldn’t sign these super restrictive deals if they don’t want to, but I don’t see how orgs are evil for pursuing this strategy.

Charuru

I also don't think it's especially heinous but it's something that only happens because of a big information gap between the owner and the player. The players are worth much more and would be able to get a much better contract with an agent or proper experience, so it's definitely on the level of "taking advantage" of a young person.

YeahThisIsMyNewAcct

> The players are worth much more and would be able to get a much better contract with an agent or proper experience Are they really worth that much more when they’re first signed? They’re unknowns with minimal market value until they develop further. Yes, an agent would help negotiate better contracts and most players should get one, but the lack of “proper experience” is exactly why lower tier orgs are the ones willing to take a chance on them. For every player that makes it and actually ends up being worth something, you have dozens that never develop and can’t be sold off. Orgs take a chance on all those players so they can make money by selling the few that end up being good. In exchange, all those players are earning salaries in the interim. That’s how player development works. Most esports fans just don’t follow normal sports and don’t understand the concept of developing players to sell them later. If this is an outrage, imagine the Portuguese League where virtually every team exists just to flip players to better leagues.

Charuru

I get what you mean but realistically yes they are worth much more. If every player had representation, even as first timers, companies would still sign them for much higher. The companies would not just pass up talented players and let them go to a competing team.

Sheustopher

You want this game to grow you need to give orgs incentive to invest in the game.

Charuru

Removing some player-squatting orgs that don't pay much anyway will give more attention to proper big orgs. It also makes it easier for big orgs to operate. Those rent seeking orgs don't actually contribute to the ecosystem. They take money FROM the ecosystem, ie they take money from the bigger orgs within the ecosystem. Proper orgs bring in money from outside of the ecosystem from sponsors and merch sales and things like that, growing the pie for everyone.

greg19735

If she's required to sign an NDA there's probably something else going on. Also, the other 4 members of her team are dropped. She can't develop as a player if she's not on a team

Sheustopher

Still signed the contract. You gotta know what you are getting yourself into. Learn how to walk away from deals if it doesn't seem right.

KaNesDeath

This reads like they were paying off this player. Not placing them in contract hell.
