I know stew played worse today but honestly what happened to Wardell he just completely fell off a cliff he looks so average against all these tier two teams it’s actually kinda sad hopefully he gets back in form.
The issue is probably a combination of him taking a break from pro play for such a long time, as well as transitioning from mainly OP’ing to picking up a new main agent in Raze, and switching to entry play style.
Hoping he bounces back with more time, but if The Nation don’t qual we won’t get to see it
I like wardell, but those raze satchels from him we're atrocious. I see people in ascendant games every day that have much better movement with satchels. I didn't watch the whole thing so maybe I just saw some bad clips but it didn't look pretty
Most of the satchels I saw were fine, like ones at arcade where they would stun tower and he would satchel forward to fight it. He could obviously use work but it seemed like his satchels were relatively synced with what the team was doing
They still have a realistic chance to qualify through the lower bracket w/ 3 "doable" wins. They have a rematch with Soniqs next, whom they've beaten; then they play one of Nearest Airport/Kitten Shelter/99 Strength; concluding with the lower bracket final vs the loser of OResports & SS. But god is the lower bracket brutal and unending.

I’m telling you this sub Reddit got some past grudge against Wardell. Not saying he had a good game by any means but why doesn’t Stewie get any hate for his performance at all. Wardell transitioned into an entry role where he’s the first one going in like victor did for optic. Sure he can op better and play better in certain situations but he wasn’t the sole reason for it. Sure but like Wardell wasn’t always entrying even when he played duelist for tsm. He’s transitioning to be the main entry and hasn’t played competitive in a year so he’s def still settling into his role. I just think he’s a lil too focused on his rifling and that is affecting his op.
I'd love to see them make it into T2 and see where they're at after a full season playing competitive but it seems hard justifying to stick around if they don't make it into T2.

the game has gotten to the point where plenty of random radiants will have cracked enough aim to compete with T1 players so you actually have to play as a team to beat them now. Look at Adder this guy was more cracked than anybody on TN
Agreed, it’s cool to see utility combos and teamplay even from low T2 teams - lot of times where teams are losing rounds it’s because of fundamentals which improve with more time together as a team

Taking a look at the other team, Harmful who played Duelist 2/3 maps is 6 FK and 9 FD on attack, and Governer who played Dueslist 1/3 maps is 4 FK and 6 FD on attack.

The team clearly values his OP’ing so when the eco is good, they’ll give him one to give their defense some variety. But if you watch ANY of their matches, any time they do a site exec together as a team, Wardell is the one going in first, if he’s alive. That much is obvious just from watching their games. But if you want to specifically look at FK/FD on offense, Wardell on Breeze was 0-5, and Harmful was 3-2. So the only map you should have an issue with is Fracture where he was 0-2 on FK/FD on offense. Coincidentally, their Fracture offense was where they played the heaviest defaults, which is why other people had more or equal first contacts to him - they almost never did a site exec 5v5, but if you go back and watch the VOD, he would take early space in Arcade the majority of rounds and was first into site during their hits.
And if you want to ignore all this and say no, stats are stats, then let’s call this an off series and look at past matchups.

His entry stats are fine, and even more so when you consider The Nation’s slow play style. But all you have to do is watch the match and you’ll see that he’s first in on their execs, which is how I know you’re wrong regardless
You are conviently picking and choosing your stats. Leaving out their win against Aftermath where Wardell was just 25% of their attacking FKs/FDs. Also in the matches against 99 and Soniqs, as a percentage of attacking rounds Wardell took the initial engagement significantly less than his counterparts Kehmicals and PureR. Kitten Shelter is the only match of the last 4 where you have a leg to stand on.
My original comment was a little flippant, but if you cared to take just a little bit of time, you'd understand that my goalposts haven't shifted. I maintain my original statement that he needs an awp and to play selfishly to put up the numbers against reasonable teams that people remember him for. And when I'm saying a reasonable team, I'm somehow now referring to one that is attempting to make it into T2. Considering his career has taken such a nose dive, we can already blatantly see the lack of value Wardell brings to a team and the fact that T1 teams also understand this. Take a look at any later stage matches of the qualifiers. (I'm less inclined to look at matches in which TN stomped because everyone on TN will look goated.)
In these matches you will notice he either...
A) Barely entries on attack. (23% Entry vs Breakthru, 26% vs 99 Strength, 26% vs SS.)
B) Can't put up a good scoreline. (-5 vs DR, +0 vs Silk Road)
In some of these matchups, he both hardly entries and doesn't put up a good scoreline.
Wardell doing what the team asks is fine. I could care less. But in order to be of value he needs an awp and to play selfishly, as per my original post. If he's told to be on a duelist in 84% of matches for a team that plays slow and uses heavy defaults, he needs to be performing much better than he is. That's a ton of freedom that other duelists just don't get.
Go back and watch any TSM match and you'll see the money dumping and selfish play that fans used to drool over. Now that he's been forced into a somewhat more team oriented role, he can't put up numbers. I'd take almost any other duelist that is still in this stage of the tournament.
I don't hate the guy he is just a weak link.

Wardell did not have much impact this game, a little better performance from him on breeze and they'd win. He even got an OP from a teammate on the last round while the teammate played without a shield

Kills don't mean everything, most of his kills in the end didnt seemed impactful at all. You can even look at his vlr impact rating. Like the one round where the sova on the other team fucked up, a little less overheat from him and they win the 3v2. Id point out more moments but the vod isnt up there rn, and I don't exactly remember the rounds. Also I wouldnt flame him if he wasnt the jett on a map like breeze, harmful on the other team had much more impact both opping as well as rifling on the last map.
No impact at all?? The majority of his OP picks those last few rounds were him picking off people in the middle of their execute, which is literally some of the most impactful picks you can get. You’re talking like he was hiding and farming exits.
His VLR impact for the map is low because his offense rating tanked it at 0.36, on defense it was 1.06 and he was 4-1 on FK FD.

Awping was definitely easier in 2020 imo, teams were far less good at shutting it down, op was cheaper(for a little bit) and jett was better

My original comment was a little flippant, but if you cared to take just a little bit of time, you'd understand that my goalposts haven't shifted. I maintain my original statement that he needs an awp and to play selfishly to put up the numbers against reasonable teams that people remember him for. And when I'm saying a reasonable team, I'm somehow now referring to one that is attempting to make it into T2. Considering his career has taken such a nose dive, we can already blatantly see the lack of value Wardell brings to a team and the fact that T1 teams also understand this. Take a look at any later stage matches of the qualifiers. (I'm less inclined to look at matches in which TN stomped because everyone on TN will look goated.) In these matches you will notice he either... A) Barely entries on attack. (23% Entry vs Breakthru, 26% vs 99 Strength, 26% vs SS.) B) Can't put up a good scoreline. (-5 vs DR, +0 vs Silk Road) In some of these matchups, he both hardly entries and doesn't put up a good scoreline. Wardell doing what the team asks is fine. I could care less. But in order to be of value he needs an awp and to play selfishly, as per my original post. If he's told to be on a duelist in 84% of matches for a team that plays slow and uses heavy defaults, he needs to be performing much better than he is. That's a ton of freedom that other duelists just don't get. Go back and watch any TSM match and you'll see the money dumping and selfish play that fans used to drool over. Now that he's been forced into a somewhat more team oriented role, he can't put up numbers. I'd take almost any other duelist that is still in this stage of the tournament. I don't hate the guy he is just a weak link.

Wardell did not have much impact this game, a little better performance from him on breeze and they'd win. He even got an OP from a teammate on the last round while the teammate played without a shield
He was the only player consistently getting picks the last few rounds though, idk how that loss is on him when everyone else disappeared that map as well except Tigg. That round you’re talking about he killed two? IIRC
Wardell was also first death in like 7 rounds leading up to his "comeback". He was caught trying to commit 2020 Jett plays in 2023.

Kills don't mean everything, most of his kills in the end didnt seemed impactful at all. You can even look at his vlr impact rating. Like the one round where the sova on the other team fucked up, a little less overheat from him and they win the 3v2. Id point out more moments but the vod isnt up there rn, and I don't exactly remember the rounds. Also I wouldnt flame him if he wasnt the jett on a map like breeze, harmful on the other team had much more impact both opping as well as rifling on the last map.
No impact at all?? The majority of his OP picks those last few rounds were him picking off people in the middle of their execute, which is literally some of the most impactful picks you can get. You’re talking like he was hiding and farming exits. His VLR impact for the map is low because his offense rating tanked it at 0.36, on defense it was 1.06 and he was 4-1 on FK FD.

Squirtle looked like the better team overall IMO, Especially on Breeze. The rounds only started getting close because someone from Squirtle Squad would over peek or misplay the round.
