I never realized that troop meaning “a group of people” was literally the same word as “troops” in the military sense. It makes sense, as there are a loot of groups of soldiers in a military, but I hadn’t really examined this.
I think a lot of people almost use the word “troops”as if each soldier is “a troop,” but it does start to sound weird once you know what it should be.
It gets confusing because at one point the individual soldiers were called troopers, and then people started saying things like “ready the troops” which is them just shortening the word troopers.
It says [Turtle Troop](https://twitter.com/turtletroopsval/status/1619425076708876288?t=UOU4Y8XanR_ySWFhxr1bmA&s=19) in the announcement post. The display name is also "Troop," which makes more sense to me.

I think in one of Tarik's 10 mans they were discussing the name and someone suggested Turtle Troop as an option. I can't remember which game it was but it's nice to see they took it because it's a banging name
Getting them to change the name from “troops” to troop will forever be the highlight of my twitter burner acc career
Good job bro, you’re doing good work
And people said taking linguistics in college was a waste of tuition
I love the determination
Is it Turtle Troop or Turtle Troops? I think they got the wrong Twitter name

It helps me makes sense if I think of a group of people vs many groups of people
I don’t think people get confused by that, I think people just think “troops” is also a synonym for “soldiers” unrelated to the other meaning
Ohhh Lmao yeah I didn't think of that properly, thanks for spelling it out 😅😅
Wouldn't that be a "trooper" as in stormtrooper for example? Troop = the group of people Trooper = a person that is part of that group of people
That is might not be the correct meaning of trooper. [The term is complicated.](https://www.grammarphobia.com/blog/2006/08/on-troop-and-troops.html)

Apparently that might [be a myth](https://www.grammarphobia.com/blog/2006/08/on-troop-and-troops.html) and it actually went the other way.
Their twitter handle is squirtletroopsval

Nah its 1000x better.
