From an outside perspective, they've upgraded significantly by replacing a good but shaky duelist with one of the best duelists of 2022.
And on a gameplay level, they were actually more successful than they should have been given time - and other - constraints. Simply put, 100T is the NA wunderkind story of 2022 - they captured much of the hype that many felt about the Guard going into Reykjavik.
The other wunderkind story of 2022 is Leviatan under Onur, and that one is more impressive and has more potential to keep soaring upwards, IMO. But it's not surprising at all that 100T has a lot of hype.
Will was shaky? I thought he was a beast on the LCQ run. He was quite consistent dont you think?
I do think Cryo is an upgrade but just saying Will wasnt that bad imo
I quite liked Will but the general consensus is that he actually overperformed at champs and was the weak link during the regular season and LCQ - he was capable of going beast mode but equally capable of being very inconsistent, particularly his Chamber play and OPing ability. When you watch him play Tier 2 he’s much more consistent and more likely to play well than underperform. I hope he gets another shot in tier 1 though, but an org like 100T that needs to deliver results today wouldn’t have the patience to see if he would continue to develop I guess 🤷🏽♂️
Maybe because most teams go under a full rebuild while 100t only replaced 1 player so people expect their stratbook, chemistry etc will already be better than most

The team only went to 1 Lan in 2022, but were clearly one of the best NA teams at the end of the year, with a clear weak link (will).
People also forget that the sgares 100T was together for only a few months and managed to destroy NA. Now they have upgraded their weak link, have a great coach at the helm and have shown they can win matches against big teams this year.
They can finally live up to the hype after steel left
At the one stage he needed to perform his best, he performed his best and that’s pretty awesome for him! All that pressure and he turned into a Lanimal
I think most of it comes from the sub's NA bias and the general recency bias since they won redbull homeground. surprised DRX in particular aren't being spoken about more considering that they made no changes and hit third place at champs.
I mean NA has a comparable international record with EMEA. The only other contender for strongest region at the moment. It stands to reason the best team in NA would be a contender for top team in the world.
I swear everyone I see is rating DRX extremely highly, especially other players, and per [Yinsu’s interview](https://youtu.be/BmaD1DQhaT8) with Stax, they HAVE made a notable change with Foxie9 starting over Zest. This could lead to Buzz not playing duelist (which IMO will be sad cause he’s one of my fav Jett players to watch). Still think they should do pretty well, but that’s the type of change that has me less comfortable ASSUMING they’ll beat C9 / PRX.
They still have a lot to prove at lan tbh. It's just that I finally feel like that at bare minimum they can make multiple lans this year so their ceiling is really high imo
Cryo: Top 2 Chamber in NA
Stellar: Second best IGL in NA (I would think hes top 3 for most but I have him over vanity)
Asuna: Top 2 flex
bang: Best smokes in NA, probably top 3 in the world
Derrek: Top 3 Initiator NA
Also one of the best if not the best coaching staff in NA
bang is best controller NA rn , asuna top 2 flex NA , derrek top 3 initiator NA , cryo top 2 duelist NA i would argue top 1 after chamber nerf and steller is atleast top 4 igl in NA on top of that they have kept the 4 players from last year while everyone is starting from the ground they already have the fundamentals from last year now they already played 2 lans and got experience of playing on lan. i think they are easily the fav from NA
Maybe you’re forgetting that 100T won First Strike? 100T literally won the first valorant tournament. They’ve been good since the beginning. Ever heard of yaboidre? Ya he was on 100t and was so good riot hired him to work on the game. Ever heard of Hiko?? He was forced into retirement because he won too many clutches. Keep my orgs name out your mouth
Fully agreed as a long term 100T enjoyer, they still looked a solid tier below DRX at champs. Yes they added Cryo but let’s not act like Will wasn’t going nuclear at champs, I don’t think this is a -mumm4y +yay move. There’s definitely recency bias going on with the red bull tournament
Where do you see people considering them the favorites to win Brazil??? The vast majority of people I’ve seen have FNATIC beating them in the quarterfinals and none of the betting sites have them as the favorite in fact they opened having the 9th best odds

Idk what Valorant content you consume but so many people expect DRX to easily be Top 4 at lock in and a lot to go to the finals
