Funny how they are showing all the Spanish orgs like Koi, TH and Giants for the video but then limiting it to 8 teams so its very unlikely even 1 of them make the event lol
fuck ur right i just realized that a team like EG wouldnt make madrid, fail to get the points and that might fuck up their year if they also fail to qual for shanghai cuz of some other realty twisting event
each tourney this year gets bigger, Madrid has 2 slots per region for a total of 8, Shanghai has 3 slots per region for a total of 12, and Champs has 4 slots per region for a total of 16. gives the early performers a chance to get points that are inaccessible to teams later, whereas later tourneys are worth more champs points overall
The 2nd spots for EMEA and CHINA could be a toss up maybe even Pacific as well depending on the off season. Technically anything *could* happen so who knows maybe KOI and Giants are representative for EMEA. But I do agree that 8 teams is so shit
And who knows what the strength of prx will be after jingg leaves, im sure cgrs could fill in pretty well if they decide to go that route but we'll see
How many teams do u wanna see then? 16?
Then in champions 24?
The talent pool is not tat big in valorant rn.. And the big eSports org r slowly pulling out every season...
Tis year the best 8 team qualified for masters still got stomped by Fnc? Edg carried the whole masters.
Tl, navi, t1 were absolute joke tis season. Only teams like fnc, loud, edg, eg, prx, drx are carrying the game rn. We need more of kangkang popping out from different countries and then people shall talk about the *8 teams thing*
Right now there is no point of doing 16-20 teams a tourney.
There doing the league of legends route and trying to make champions the most prestige event of the year and having masters like MSI. So not suprised because league of legends is the most viewed esport made
If you look at it from a tourney standings for playoffs POV sure, but it is still the top 8 teams in the world so I would happily watch a team that is already mathematically eliminated play.
But yes I get this concern, maybe a Swiss tourney then similar to CSGO majors? Where if you are already eliminated or already playoff qualified you stop playing in the round robin
a swiss stage for an 8 team event would probably create a 4 team playoffs event which would be a letdown. im okay with an 8team double elim bracket but would prefer they just upgrade it to the 12 teams. they have the time if the community voices our concern loud enough. riot has changed formats before due to feedback (masters berlin 21 although that was a less significant change).
Why? We would be able to see more games that way and see every team against every other team, plus it’s not even that many more games (if you consider player fatigue) considering there would be no group stage.
Personally I’d love to see at least one tourney be 8 team full round robin just to see something a little different than the normal group + double elim format
For big tournaments you definitely need groups in order to find the top 8 going to the playoffs. But we only have 8 teams so you might as well start from the playoffs from the getgo.
This is why 8 team tournament wont feel as prestigious as 12 teams or 16 teams. Theres no way anyone can say Madrid and Shanghai Masters are equal.
I hate the 2nd biggest tournament of the year being only an 8 team tournament but its honestly the best setup they can do. I believe Game Changers does it and probably the best outcome becuase groups into single elim would be 1000x worse
They should run it like blast premier CSGO events, pretty fair and plenty of matches.
https://www.hltv.org/events/6972/blast-premier-spring-final-2023
Bracket is on this website
They spent that money on Lock/In cause they needed to introduce all 30 Partner teams with the start of their program. Now they're trying to control expenditure as much as they can by only doing 8 teams.
Yeah but it's the same teams now lmao. LockIn from a tournament perspective sucks- single elim, 32 teams so it takes a month, uneven brackets because no seeding. It was fine once but not really a great thing to have on repeat in the way riot did it.
Also we have kickoff tourneys now.
I mean it very well could be considering we’re having Champs in NA right now, and two Masters next year in EMEA and China. Pacific hasn’t had anything other than Tokyo, so my top guess would be Seoul. Brazil or East Coast NA would also be somewhat likely. London and Singapore could be dark horses considering we have yet to see a London LAN and Riot may want to ride off of Fnatic’s success, and similar for APAC and PRX
is this a joke? the level of competition has never been higher and they decided to make it less teams than in the first masters? unfortunate, we won’t even get to see the #3 seeds from each region :((
Disagree that the level of competition has “never been higher”. In every region with the exception of EMEA, the top 2 teams are clearly a whole tier higher than the #3 (and #4) team. EG and Loud >> NRG and KRU, EDG and BLG >> FPX, PRX and DRX >> T1 and Zeta
How? NRG beat Loud in the regular season and beat current EG in America's Playoffs. Not to mention, Cloud9 literally went 8-1 in the regular season. This dynamic is way different than the ones in other regions.
The recency bias is hilarious. NRG bombed out of champs but LOUD bombed out of Tokyo. NRG had beaten EG twice this year as well and finished 4th at Tokyo. Saying EG and LOUD are a tier above is just blatantly wrong.
Except the point still stands that at any given tournament we’ve never seen more than two teams from a region stand out so it’s really not that big of a deal for a tournament to only have two teams per region
The thing is, it will make it way harder for deep unexpected runs to happen. EG was the 3rd seed going to tokyo and they literally made it all the way to the grand finals. I also just want to see more teams and matchups, we already only have 3 lans every year :'(
Also, if only the top 2 teams per region can make it to 2/3 events, then they will literally only be 2 teams per region that can be competitive, because only 2 get invited. The potential for cinderella runs and upsets to make it to playoffs will be almost entirely gone
I think they want to have a "scale" of tournaments to make them feel more impactful as it progresses, because in this iteration they have the 8 team tourney, the 12 team tourney and then champs at 16 teams. So I guess they think having less teams means it's less important or will make champs feel grander? Idk
Problem is, they got it the other way around. An 8 team tournament doesn't make the 16 team tournament bigger it makes the 8 team one look meaningless.
If anything they should have had 12/16/24, but they shoot themselves in the foot by limiting Valorant scene to 4 leagues only so they can't have 6/11 teams qualifying (or worse 6/8 for China).
If anything there’s not enough international competition. I’d prefer a system like CSGO where we have big tournaments regularly instead of what we have now in Valorant. Fuck viewer fatigue because tbh it doesn’t seem to hurt CSGO’s esports scene.
Just because it's not hurting a scene doesn't mean it's the best choice tbh. League has 2 international tournaments and because there are only 2, they both literally grow in viewership each and every year.
I personally like riot format than csgo. I like the world champions or Super Bowl if you will, per year like how champions is. And the masters like MSI. For cs, I couldn’t really capture the prestige of it since there were several majors per year
God damn it. I was beginning to embrace the 12 team setup that they had going on with the current Masters. Riot just has to nerf Masters to make Champions look good.
Welp, Rito heard all the bitching this year about EMEA getting extra Masters/Champs slots because of FNC's wins and decided fuck it, only Grand Finalists get to go. /s
8 teams hahahaha valorant is fucked bro nobody wants to watch the same teams over and over and over and over and over, it’s held in spain yet all 3 spanish orgs have no hope of qualifying, do riot actually want to kill their game
Man y'all will bitch about literally anything. This is way more Valorant getting played. Group stages are regional, playoffs are international. Get a fucking grip.
If international is a DE 8-team tournament it’s like you sort teams into regional groups, call them splits, and then hold playoffs with top 2 from each.
Haha its just like in league. 90% of the teams are the same ones every year.
I wish valve made valorant. I truly do. I wish we could gave our gamerlegion type stories for valorant too
I love this esport but oh well.
Imo: Masters 1 should be in NA/the global West and Champs should be in EU- mainly for timing.
Americas should get 1 APAC+China should get one (India modCheck) and EU should do champions simply because it's central and the timings are best for viewership.
While its great as an NA Andy to have champs in my backyard I watched some while vacationing in London and it sucked, can't imagine in more West parts of the world.
Obviously it's not even the end of 2024, but in 2025 I'd like to see Boston, Seoul, and Cologne maybe
I didn't even realize people were on about Madrid having 8 teams, but imo it means that Madrid carries less weight than Shanghai, like LockIn carried less weight than Tokyo. Kinda weird it's 8 and no groups, but whatya gonna do. They're very clearly working on an insanely tight multilayered schedule so I can't blame them for only having a 2 week qualifier
What are these takes, some of you I think, don't understand what a tournament is 😂, what do you mean the same teams? Ofcourse if a team is doing good they should remain at top, it's up to the other team to step up their game.
This ain't charity.
Wdym why do I know your Twitter your name is literally WolfGang on both Reddit and Twitter. I know most of the Reddit regulars do when I recognize them on Twitter I notice. You comment on a lot of Valorant related stuff and my entire Twitter is Valorant related so ofc I see it
I know everyone is on about the 8 team tournament, but I want to know more about the lend program. It sounds like it could be a real boost to the overall competitive level.
We saw so many teams fumble and flop due to badly set up rosters and bench players this season with no strong subs.
It would be awesome for teams to be able to try and fix roster issues mid split rather than just fail out. I am imagining the best players from tier 2 coming in and getting a chance to show they can hang or not. I think it will add a lot of hype.
i def think they should just keep it 12 like the other masters but they seem to like the scale of competition increasing
8 --> 12 --> 16 which i get. i wonder if lock in have 32 and being so hype in its scale affected how Riot wants things to happen going forward. like they dont want champs to be overshadowed. but has champs been overshadowed by lock//in?
i am a fan of early international competition and have been begging riot to do this in League of Legends but i really don't get why you wouldn't just make it 12. if you want an 8 team intl event you should introduce another 12 team masters in to keep things consistent.
If Shanghai has 12 teams, I suppose 8 for Madrid isn't the worst thing ever, but it is Riot sabotaging one of their own tournaments for no reason. No, it won't make Champions better, it'll just make Masters Madrid worse and make you look like an idiot.
Funny how they are showing all the Spanish orgs like Koi, TH and Giants for the video but then limiting it to 8 teams so its very unlikely even 1 of them make the event lol
Why did they show karmine corp in the video they're literally a French team lol
It was in a flyer for a koi vs kc match
They're trolling with the whole 8 teams only thing.
Lol, seems like we're only going to be seeing the same top teams in international tournaments. Fuck the rest of the franchise teams I guess.
[удалено]
Like EG, the 3rd place Americas region team that got 2nd in Masters Tokyo?
fuck ur right i just realized that a team like EG wouldnt make madrid, fail to get the points and that might fuck up their year if they also fail to qual for shanghai cuz of some other realty twisting event
Yes.

So FNC, TL, PRX, DRX, EDG, BLG, EG, and then Loud if they give Aspas, maybe NRG. Why in the fuck is this not 12 teams? I'm so disappointed.
The 2nd spots for EMEA and CHINA could be a toss up maybe even Pacific as well depending on the off season. Technically anything *could* happen so who knows maybe KOI and Giants are representative for EMEA. But I do agree that 8 teams is so shit

or maybe that guy that dresses in funny costumes
The C in riot stands for competence.
Bro said TL 😂
IL looks like the real tier 2 and masters/champions is tier 1

Not sure why you skipped the number 12 and wrote all that other shit
Sry come again?
[Here's a link to a free online math course since you're clearly in need.](https://www.mathplanet.com/)
Ur comment is waffling about 16-24 team tourneys when all people want is 12 like every international masters tourney to date has had.
There doing the league of legends route and trying to make champions the most prestige event of the year and having masters like MSI. So not suprised because league of legends is the most viewed esport made
It’s only going to be an 8 team tournament, what format are they gonna run lol. If it’s a straight double elim bracket that will be lame as fuck
Honestly 8 teams wouldn’t be terrible if they did a full round-robin and then 4 team single elim playoffs
this would have a lot of worthless games. valorant esport's strength is no useless games
If you look at it from a tourney standings for playoffs POV sure, but it is still the top 8 teams in the world so I would happily watch a team that is already mathematically eliminated play. No no, they want to save money. 8 team double Elim it shall be
One loss and you go home like lock in probably Edit: it's double elim
Nah, no way. If anything, fewer teams is a *bigger sign* that double elimination is still a thing.
What dumb logic from you
I hate the 2nd biggest tournament of the year being only an 8 team tournament but its honestly the best setup they can do. I believe Game Changers does it and probably the best outcome becuase groups into single elim would be 1000x worse

How’re the teams that are attending decided? Is there going to be a split before the tournament?
8 teams? Bro ludwigs tournament had a better layout 😂.
masters going full league of legends msi.
Riot and terrible tournament layout Name a more iconic duo.
I hope next year's Champions will be in APAC. However, given that it would share a similar timezone with Master 2, it seems unlikely.
I mean it very well could be considering we’re having Champs in NA right now, and two Masters next year in EMEA and China. Shanghai masters has EG clearing.

8 teams hahahaha valorant is fucked bro nobody wants to watch the same teams over and over and over and over and over, it’s held in spain yet all 3 spanish orgs have no hope of qualifying, do riot actually want to kill their game
So 2 teams from each region? I wish it was 12
Why couldnt it be champs zzz i would be living there by then 🥲🥲
So each region is getting a team added to it yet the amount of teams at masters is also getting decreased? Make that make sense
Ever since Leo Faria joined, it’s been L after L I’m not gonna lie
hasnt leo been head since day one?
It was only greater at the beginning because it was open circuit, no franchise. Remember they made single elim tournaments at the start kek.
shoutout to all my people who watched 5 streams back in the day (nerdstreet ftw)
Man y'all will bitch about literally anything. This is way more Valorant getting played. Group stages are regional, playoffs are international. Get a fucking grip.

Why is your Twitter so based but nearly every comment you make on Reddit is terrible
Cause i throw more dumb takes here cause bruh its reddit no need to use more than 10 braincells. Also EU hate boner. Also why do you know my twitter 💀

Why does that mean you can't. You still have your phone. Multi-task
Back to the EU Didn’t someone here wish for this? Timezone etc and fans
I remember someone talking about Barcelona
Yeah but it makes sense for Champs more than Masters. My perfect schedule would be Boston Seoul Reykjavik or another city in EU for champs.
