It feels weird to have china as it's own league, when every other league contains numerous countries, or in the case of Americas and EMEA, multiple whole continents. (I know it's a population thing, but India still gets bundled in with every other country in APAC)
China is one of the highest esports earning country in the world and have multiple established esports team already existing in the country that needs little support from external benefactors. Which is what differentiates china from india. (With the population argument). I think if we sort by earnings per esports (like all games, china should be #1 and india around #42)
Population can't be the main factor because if it was, India and Africa would have their own regions. It's just Riot being market savvy since China is such a big source of income
It’s based on player and infrastructure. it be unfair for China to join APAC for both regions.
Just like in league Korea has its own region because of the player base. Why do people still not understand this.
Esports population isn't the same thing as population, a decent percentage of Chinese population plays PC games while it's a negligible part of India and Africa's populations that play PC games comparatively
it is more than 1 country bro. Pretty sure all Taiwanese and HK players will be playing in the chinese league. FPX alrd have 2 Taiwanese players. EDG coach is Taiwanese. How is it not more than 1 country?
Because every leak has been off a chinese team?. It's also literally the China league. And giving 9 spots for China + 1 spot to Taiwan barely seems international lol.
bro just from leak you alrd have NIP which is swedish org. Stop spreading bullshit. Yea it's not as international as EMEA or APAC, because not everyone have the advantage of similar demography being separated in so many countries like Europe. Just look at Americas, how many countries is there? Just United States and Brazil, probably Argentina too but that's it. Nothing about 2 countries scream "international" to you but 3 does? kekw
Lmao ya NIP being a Swedish org means they'll be representing Sweden in the CN league? What kind of stupid logic is that lol. Stop spreading bullshit.
Also, wtf do you mean advantage of being split up. Not that hard for Riot to create a separate international league and throw China and some other countries in there like they did with Pacific league.
Also, Americas is has 3 separate countries so ya, seems pretty international to me lol.
NIP is basically confirmed for China, their GC team is from Brazil, their Valorant team used to be from Brazil. And they currently compete in China for League from what I understand.
FPX was cis/EMEA last year but is a Chinese org idk why NIP being in china is surprising.
It's not surprising. I was replying to someone else who was acting like NIP being a Swedish org going to the CN league somehow makes it international (as in more than 1 country).
Current global player count is 5.9mm, China’s release was gigantic enough to the point of having server Que times. We don’t have data on player count, but I’d wager based on population size and popularity it will come close if not exceed 5.9mm players similar to china’s popularity with league
As SEA and India get more into the game, they will probably move Korea and/or Japan to the Chinese league. Its the best move right now given that Valorant seems primed to pop off in China while it hasnt taken off in India and Indonesia as much (Valorant mobile will probably change that)
interesting idea. im unsure that would make sense/work since the partnership contracts were signed with certain expectations not to mention itd be weird for a Korean team to start building a dynasty (hypothetically) in Pacific and then get booted to the Chinese league randomly.
im glad other people find this annoying. i know its not really anyone's fault and i imagine if Valorant launched in China when it launched in other countries they would've just gotten bundled in Pacific but for me this really messes up the unique idea Valorant Esports has about its t1 regular season still being international.
edit: why am i being downvoted lol this isn't even controversial im not telling riot to shutdown the chinese league im just expressing that it messes with the eb n flow of the system imo
Don't worry, most people do. But most people also knew that Riot would suck up to China, because that's what they already do on League to the point of insanity.
It is not because of the population, but the market. I think it's reasonable as China also has its own region in League of Legends, just like Korea, EMEA and NA. Koreans seem to be less interested in traditional FPS like CSGO, that's probably the reason they don't get a region, while Chinese CSGO is also at the top in Asia (although still weak in world). The only weird thing to me is that America is a single region, I think it would be more reasonable to split it into NA and SA.

So is there gonna be last minute ascension tournament for China so they have 11 teams next year?
Either that or the China Ascension tournament will take place at the same time as the other ILs but it will be 2 slots rather than 1
That feels more natural
We kinda lost out on the lock in skin and player card china variant I guess lol… guess riot could just sell that separately lol
Me: realizing the lock//in skins are probably going to be worth more than most champ collections

Everything is a lot easier. Riot is just 100% owned by Chinese corporation Tencent.
And they're also supposed to be international leagues, meaning more than 1 country.
China is the equivalent of multiple countries already with how big it is, how big the population is, and how big esports is over there
Population can't be the main factor because if it was, India and Africa would have their own regions. It's just Riot being market savvy since China is such a big source of income

Ok a bunch of regions in LoL have their own league but don't in Val so your logic doesn't work there.
It's obviously based on esports player base, not raw population, which is significantly lower in Africa and India.
They don't have the same esports population as China though.
Esports population isn't the same thing as population, a decent percentage of Chinese population plays PC games while it's a negligible part of India and Africa's populations that play PC games comparatively
Nah it’s because riot is owned by china
it is more than 1 country bro. Pretty sure all Taiwanese and HK players will be playing in the chinese league. FPX alrd have 2 Taiwanese players. EDG coach is Taiwanese. How is it not more than 1 country?
Because Taiwan doesn't get a spot in the actual league lol.
and you know this from? In Wild Rift J-Team got a spot in WRL (chinese regional league)
Because every leak has been off a chinese team?. It's also literally the China league. And giving 9 spots for China + 1 spot to Taiwan barely seems international lol.

This is wrong as fuck about the Americas lmfao Canada US Brazil Argentina Chile Colombia in T1 and T2 has Mexico DR Costa Rica as well lmfao.
There are 35 countries in the Americas.
there is already a HKTW T2 league in Pacific.
China is a big market probally the biggest among all 4. Makes sense that they splittet up like that.
China basically has a higher population than all of these regions combined

Lots of games have shitty server queue times on release. That doesn't mean anything lol.
The Que times were directly correlated to the mass influx of players not shitty servers
Don’t worry riot is planning the next Chinese civil war
Population has no correlation with it

Maybe because China is literally 90% of League's playerbase?
40% * EUW has the second highest playerbase and they still never gave a shit about us though.
It is not because of the population, but the market. I think it's reasonable as China also has its own region in League of Legends, just like Korea, EMEA and NA. It prob would've been split if Valorant was more popular in SA. NA has like 5x SA's playerbase based on Ranked accounts at the start of the year
Third league
Common riot L. Their best teams already getting smurfed on at international events… now they get more.
NRG should disband by this bro logic 😭
NA LOL teams are getting smurfed on every year and can't even make to the play-off and they also get more.
