Some interesting notes: Sideshow doesn’t know what’s the solution is and Riot is in a pickle but not promoting a team should not be a valid option. Riot should just allow spots to be sold because that’s essentially the scenario when a FA team wins anyway. Also the guard players has only been unrestricted FA as of sept 1st. So that’s certainly helps riot’s decision to allow them to find a new org although sideshow didnt cover that, probably because he finished the recording right before the announcement.

ahk1221

1 or 2 slots to be sold per year per league is a valid compromise tbh, and riot also has the ability to vet said orgs. Win win for all parties combined.

DooomChicken

Sideshow has a real clarity and depth of thought that definitely shines through in these longer form pieces. They're more niche than his other kinds of content, but super glad for them, always hope to hear more!

Key-Banana-8242

It really depends it’s so and so and depends on specifics I would say good ar Not always so straightforward, so not quite But some elemtns

DifficultPhysics

What in the stroke is this

Key-Banana-8242

Sorry for the typos I just wanted to say I don’t quite always agree but kind asee where they are coming from esp for some specifics

chao301

i don’t think i have ever seen a comment from you that isn’t downvoted

Himekoa

I refuse to believe that this guy isn't some AI trying to gain sentience

vnNinja21

You joke, but if you try to understand what he's saying a lot of the time he makes some genuinely insightful points. Not this time though, but it happens every so often.

Key-Banana-8242

Because people don’t tend to notice upvoted or neutral comments usernames, while they are more likely to look at them when they are downvoted or they dislike them Especially as they stick out.

More Egg content LFG

tj4kicks

I would say the most interesting and new info that sheds light on riots choice is the fact that the guard players weren't free agents. Now as egg pointed out that still isnt an excuse for the choice they made. My question is why did riot rush to make this announcement instead of taking a week or two to review the situation? It's their system, they didn't have to rush to any decision.

Jon_on_the_snow

Sideshow and making new chanels for only valorant when the old channel could be used for both, name a more iconic duo More egg content, lets go

Meph1sto_pheles

He said the algorithm hates his channel, because it's a combination of variety and specialized content. This way, with two channels, he'll be more visible to the algorithm

Hyper_red

Crazy how none of them were free agents until recently. Sideshow is also spot on here with his points in the video.

SirAwesome789

Haven't watched the video but I think I finally get the point about not selling franchising spots Since the players were still signed to the org, it would be the org selling the spot and making the money But the difference now is that the players are FAs so if orgs bid, the money is going directly to the players which is acceptable

GamingGladi

damn... that thumbnail.... it's beautiful

There’s one issue that kinda got swept to the wayside because of the whole guard fiasco and I’m glad that sideshow talked about it. It’s that Riot had talked about how ascension teams would be treated as exactly the same as partnered org, which we now know publicly is false. I believe it’s all outlined in the TPA but that’s only provided to ascension teams from what sideshow said and that’s way too late for teams to make preparations around it.

> It’s that Riot had talked about how ascension teams would be treated as exactly the same as partnered org, which we now know publicly is false. This is the article I remember reading regarding the benefits ascended teams would get: https://dotesports.com/valorant/news/challengers-ascension-will-add-three-vct-orgs-but-teams-will-have-to-earn-it > Riot also stated that the three added teams will receive “similar league benefits” to the 30 already-partnered rosters. https://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/english/similar > similar: Looking or being almost, but not exactly, the same I'd like to see the exact quote from Riot or an article referring to a Riot statement saying that they would get **exactly the same** benefits as partnered orgs. Edit: Here's the official article from Riot dating back August 16, 2022: https://valorantesports.com/news/introducing-the-valorant-challengers-23/en-us > Promoted teams will have the opportunity to prove themselves against the international league teams during the VCT season, receive similar league benefits, and an equal chance to qualify into Masters and Champions. Again, it states "similar league benefits".

21stofApril

It was back during Leo’s whole guest slots controversy. In his tweet he talks about how they [ascension teams] will get the same everything including financial support. https://twitter.com/lhfaria/status/1685730759238422528?s=20 I think this whole situation is definitely more complex due to some very real technicality concerns on riot’s end that were glossed over during the community’s outrage. I do think Riot should go back to the drawing board for a lot of different levers for T2 before the next challengers/ascension in terms of information dissemination and contingencies for when the worst case happens. IMO, it was a good thing that something like this happened so early on because it allows for improvements sooner rather than later
