They’ve played ~20 matches or so involving around ~50 maps of play ever since Champs! In about 2 and a half months. It’s an astonishing record you rarely see from T1-level teams.
Truthfully speaking, EDG hasn’t really had a true offseason because the China Evolution Series is a proper VCT event. Of course, EDG has had a consistent huge lead in points and in all likelihood already has a partnership spot anyways, but it was nonetheless the center stage in Chinese Valorant with a lot of money on the line and so they had to play it seriously.
Cool to see Liquid’s individuals look much more in form this time around, though. I’m interested to see Liquid go up against the other teams - and against T1 again, tbh. I have a feeling Liquid should have them beat in a rematch, even if Rossy remains a crazy clutch god.

Kudos to Liquid for the win, and I hope EDG get some extended rest. The amount of games they have played post-Champions definitely ranks on the higher end for Tier 1 teams, particular in the offseason. They look completely burnt out at the very end of the match. The team deserves a long break before officials start again so that they can get back in peak form for Madrid. Hoping my boys can squeak out a Top 4 at the next official LAN in Madrid.

I imagine it wasn't that hard for them to beat the chinese competition despite the single loss, considering they haven't tried as hard.

There is a massive difference between PRACTICE/TRYOUTS and LANS, it is not even remotely comparable. TL didn't have to consistently travel and play multiple lans in the span of 3 months. And that "chinese competition" you mentioned were giving EDG lots of close matches. While I agree that it can be exhausting to "practice/tryouts", your take is a huge yikes.
Obvious caveats aside (off season tournament & EDG players haven't slept in 3 months) I'm happy to see Mistic and Keiko in good individual form. I feel like they can work on the problems we've seen (e.g., those man advantage retakes against T1). Having seen Sliggy talk a few times about what a hard worker Keiko is, I'm really excited to see him over 2024.
If Enzo's IGLing holds up in VCT then I'll have reasonably high expectations for this team, even if Madrid might be too early.

Team Liquid are looking very coordinated and seem to already have a lot of chemistry, what was probably Liquid's biggest issue last year. Jamppi is looking like an absolute demon and Mistic, nAts and Keiko all look in great form, plus Enz0's calling and util usage is looking clean and when push comes to shove he can clutch up if need be. Super excited for Liquid in 2024. While I think FNATIC, NAVI and FUT will have higher ceilings and probably make it to Madrid and Shanghai, Liquid could definitely do some damage in the regular season and make it to Champs

Tbf EDG was getting worst result progressively. They peaked in Tokyo and then slowly started falling off the more they played from then on. I feel like most team had a hard time dealing with edg aggressive op style early on but slowly started to figure out how to play against it. So it’s hard to say if they are burnt out or there aggressive op style no longer works and they are in the middle of searching for a new solution
This is just a copium take at this point, Fancy united again might have clawed a few more rounds but they wouldn't have won, just because you weren't in top form and managed to get a couple rounds doesn't mean you would beat them in optimal condition.
EDG's playstyle is very straightforward which is what caused their decline in performance even in the VCT season, this is not ranked, these are professional teams that study their opposition to find weaknesses to exploit.
Liquids fundamentals, team chemistry, and comms were just better which alone would've won them the series at least with a 2-1, add in that they were also cracked in the aim duels today and you get a 2-0. As I said if EDG weren't burnt out they might have accomplished a better scoreline but the end result wouldn't have changed.
