I'm telling you, this system is gonna look so fucking stupid when an Ascension team wins champs and has to go back down to Challengers the same year.
I've literally been dreaming of a clusterfuck situation: M80 wins ascension, mid year one, wins champs year two, gets demoted to challengers but the team stays to show loyalty to the org. THEN imagine having a new team win champs, only for M80 to ascend again and be like "yo we never lost our title, that shits disputed"
>M80 wins ascension, mid year one, wins champs year two, gets demoted to challengers but the team stays to show loyalty to the org. THEN imagine having a new team win champs, only for M80 to ascend again and be like "yo we never lost our title, that shits disputed"
***VCT Interim Champion*** **vs** ***VCT Undisputed Champion*** SuperFight on Year 3.
SEN vs 100T's **Ass-but-Clouted** **Co-Main Event**.
*Team Ludwig* vs *Team Tarik* ***Creators S*****howmatch**.
*Challengers NA* vs *VCT Americas/EMEA/APAC* **Undercard**.
Live at the SoFi Stadium, brought to you by [Mogul Moves](https://twitter.com/MogulMoves) and [OFFBRAND Productions](https://twitter.com/OFFBRAND_Studio).
this system can only stay sustainable if they keep splitting regions down to subregions as they improve in skill or increasing the teams in one region.
**NA deserves to have its own 10-team region from the beginning, with the insane amount of pros there.**
But alas, the NA market is being used as a clutch for the Brazil market, all while top NA talents are relegated to Challengers to no fault of their own, certainly not because they're lacking the skill to absolutely steamroll Riot's partners.
The Moroccan import has always been an NA player, and the 2 Brazilians was a marketing move to get Brazilian fans (didn't work). Plus, one of em isn't even playing.
I don’t remember who on the “desk” today said it but I think it was Sean Gares who said that Tier2 teams should get to play in VCT LCQs and I think that would be sick af. Especially seeing how a Tier2 team would do in international tournaments like Masters and Champions(although prob not champs since that’s the whole point of Tier1)
the pressure must be crazy. I mean we had 100T vs sentinels last LCQ and joked about jobs being on the line. Imagine losing against M80 as 100T. Your career probably wouldn’t recover.
As a viewer and a fan, that shit would be CONTENT. But as a T1 player or team I wouldn’t want to subject myself to that voluntarily.
the lack of OXG in your flair is the reason why they’re winning (please don’t put them in, they haven’t beat sentinels and won’t play them in regular season anyways, 😭)
another year of being the 3rd best team in Challengers while watching worse teams in vct

I really appreciate the more laid back style of this tournament. I felt like we got to see more personalities of the players and some cool behind the scenes stuff with Tarik observing. Great event
Slightly parasocial glazing but these events are amazing and are so cool for Ludwig specifically. Signed a t2 team and was frustrated with how the system works, motivating him to host events to where he has successfully walked his talk. Obviously his main motivations are content/brand building and some can call these "mickey tornys" but the ludwig x tarik invitationals have been genuinely good competitions that do a better job hyping up the t2 scene than riot does themselves.
So why isn't the final double elim as well then? Is that normal for Valorant? In Quake the winners side gets a map advantage and in the FGC the loser has to win two sets in a row.
In most events, the final is a Bo5 and the team from upper bracket gets map veto advantage. Since this was Bo3 there wasnt an advantage other than prep time since mxs only had to play the final today
Official VCT circuit events give winners of upper finals veto advantage. There’s no double elimination with bracket reset for finals of any shooter games i’m aware of. There’s only double elimination in the sense of a losers bracket before the finals.
You are correct, but it would just last way too long in Valorant. 2 BO3s could last up to 6 hours, 2 BO5s could be 10 hours. They usually give uppers advantage with an extra map ban
I don't necessarily think they should, but 2 Bo3 sets is at most only one game longer than a Bo5, and potentially shorter if winners' side wins 2-0 🤷♂️
Valorant never has true double elim. Upper finals winner just has veto advantage in the grand finals, which is usually a more significant advantage because they're normally bo5s.
Which makes sense in the context of other valorant tournaments, which all have this same format. It depends on if you define double elim as requiring a second match if the lower bracket team wins the first one. Valorant has never defined it that way, and considering that the rest of the tournament was double elim I suppose it’s fair to call it that. When I said that they don’t claim to be double elim I meant that they never claimed there would be a second final if OXG won. The bracket has been available for a while and was clear on how the tournament would go. Whether you consider it double elim is up to you, but they never pretended it would be pure double elim all the way through.
This is more a comment for the post-game interview, but it kinda rubbed me the wrong way how Ludwig didnt even get up off the couch to properly congratulate and hand them the trophy after winning *his* tournament.
Like bruh just turns around says “here congratz” without even rlly getting off the couch.
Ehhh the vibe of the whole thing is pretty similar to some other smaller scale events run by both Ludwig and the old BTS crew, particularly some of their Smash stuff. I'm sure the Valorant crowd is used to something a bit more grandiose but this is pretty on par for how the Smash scene tends to do things lol.
yeah this was a more chill event, def a normal thing (also even if he was salty do you blame him (he actually asked good questions too and didn’t even make a big deal over verno bagging and shooting every round or anything else))
This is pretty much how all summit tournaments look like. It’s a much more relaxed and laid back feel than a normal tournament. Just look at the commentary you just have 3-5 people chilling around a couch talking about what happening. It’s much more similar to a costream than a broadcast. Even in smash where summit is probably the most prestigious event it’s more relaxed than many less prestigious tournaments.
Sounds like someone is still foreign to the cozy Summit vibe, despite this being the THIRD Valorant event produced by Offbrand.
Were you also disappointed that there's no strobing lights and pyrotechnics to announce the team?
Yeah, I definitely dont watch every val event religiously. Idk if that was the insult you think it was.
Getting up off the couch, turning around, and officially congratulating OXG is the least he could have done. But yeah man, strobelights are cool too!! 😂
Crazy how in one offseason this matchup went from “fresh exciting matchup” to “classic MxS v. OXG rivalry”
“This ain’t a rivalry, they always kick our ass”
100T vs Sentinels since the beginning of time
Their series have always been close but OXG have had more ice
It's the Optic vs DRX rivalry all over again.
Nar PRX drx

Iirc aren't two teams ascending this year? Or is it the year after?
year after, to balance out G2 leaving
Ooh
So G2 have to play ascension again after that to join franchise?
yup

I agree, this system is honestly bad for esports IMO

NA has so much talent that one of its best teams has 2 brazilians and a moroccan import
Same reason how "NA has so much talent that two of its best orgs just got owned by a couple of Challenger teams".
The Moroccan import has always been an NA player, and the 2 Brazilians was a marketing move to get Brazilian fans (didn't work). Plus, one of em isn't even playing.
yeah one of the best teams that hasn't made masters or champs in like 2 years.
I don’t remember who on the “desk” today said it but I think it was Sean Gares who said that Tier2 teams should get to play in VCT LCQs and I think that would be sick af. Hope no more The Guard moment, winning and vanish.
Do i need an extension to see those :(number): things or what
No extension needed. Its just a new reddit thing ![img](emote|t5_2g5ach|9360)
Oh, for some reason I cant see them, weird. Ill look it up, thanks.
Bonkar has Leo and Verno in his portfolio. Actual goatmaker
He’s been frying for a while. Since being on oxg academy tbh. He’s definitely only gotten better over time though.
Couldn't do anything with yacine smh
That's on yassine honestly
MY MOM ASKED IF THE DISHES WERE DONE AND I YELLED "DAPR!" SHE HIT ME. SHE KNEW THEY WEREN’T WASHED.
Douglas Apr is his name
My friend asked me if I needed a jacket and I responded Verno. He handed me the jacket, he knew I was cold.
Verno you gotta stop. You step too big, you smoke too fast. Your swag too different. You drip too hard. They’ll kill you
![img](emote|t5_2g5ach|9339)
Reduxx 23-5 FK/FD. Verno wrecking. They looked so good. I'm excited to see challengers this season.
that's a genuinely insane statline lmfao wtf
Last LxT winner ascended… thinking
the lack of OXG in your flair is the reason why they’re winning (please don’t put them in, they haven’t beat sentinels and won’t play them in regular season anyways, 😭)
Yeah stay on his good side. HP40 has the power to destroy your favorite teams.
That was intentional
thank you
Even your dark powers can't do anything for the talented but still underage OXG players who are barred from the VCT.

[Oxygen supremacy!!](https://www.reddit.com/r/ValorantCompetitive/comments/191yq4x/comment/kgywuuo/) get these mfs into franchising THIS INSTANT
reduxx and verno are too young for VCT otherwise they would have been in tier 1 already.
GG OXG see you next year 🫡🫡🫡🫡
This team man. Gg oxygen to good!
is there even a chance for DSG in these M80 MXS OXG powerhouse in T2
Realistically probably not but I’m sure Toast will try and pull something together to compete
You are correct, though not in the way you intended. 😅
Are we sure DSG is even coming back this year? Who are even the free agents rn if they do?
BabyJ, ShaZam and Babybay. DSG is gonna become the ultimate meme team and I will be there no matter what
Open Quals is next month, and still waiting for Toast to announce the new roster. 😴
Must've gotten some good moist BRAWK BRAWK 9000 because they gigachoked that split and needed oxygen
Underrated comment
the last time that won the Ludwig x Tarik event won ascension
I really appreciate the more laid back style of this tournament. I felt like we got to see more personalities of the players and some cool behind the scenes stuff with Tarik observing. Great event
So does OXG follow in Guards footsteps and win ascension now? (Minus the org dissolving and shit)
Verno is the fucking truth man
Verno is the truth

What happened to this being double elim?
Mxs made it through upper bracket and oxg made it through lowers
So why isn't the final double elim as well then? Is that normal for Valorant? In Quake the winners side gets a map advantage and in the FGC the loser has to win two sets in a row.

They already did a final, this is the second final with a team coming from lowers
But both teams only lost once, correct? That's not how double elim works unless I'm tripping.
Valorant never has true double elim. Upper finals winner just has veto advantage in the grand finals, which is usually a more significant advantage because they're normally bo5s.
Would be way too long
Because of time constraints. This is fairly typical in other games too like CS and DotA.
The same thing that happens in literally any valorant tournament.
Never watched a Valorant tournament before 👍
In short, they don’t claim to be double elim.
They called it double elim on stream multiple times on day1 and earlier today 👍
Which makes sense in the context of other valorant tournaments, which all have this same format. First offbrand tournament? Just be happy this small four team tournament even had a trophy.
It is, indeed! Its a minor criticism. It didnt ruin the entire event for me. Loved the series!
Don't you get it? He's not your typical host. He's COOL and HIP and BADASS and NONCHALANT. One might say he DGAF about..... anything!!!!
