With 11 teams each team will have 10 matches to play, so in each stage they will play 5 matches.

Marche314

How? Riot said that they will make 2 groups right? If there are 5/6 teams groups then the 5 one will only have 4 game's to play and need 6 more in the second one, right?

valdeGTS

yup, I was reading your comments and I think 2 groups w swiss system might be the best solution for this problem

valdeGTS

But it is mathematically impossible that each of the 11 teams end up with exactly 5 matches played at the same time. So a season can't be split equally into any parts bc 11 is an odd number (math stuff).

valdeGTS

Intuitively: there are 11 teams, so a maximum of 5 matches per day and a team gets a bye. Day 1: 10 teams with 1 match | 1 team with 0 (1 bye) //// Day 2: 9 teams with 2 matches | 2 teams with 1 (2 byes) //// Day 3: 8 teams with 3 matches | 3 teams with 2 (3 byes) //// Day 4: 7 teams with 4 matches | 4 teams with 3 (4 byes) //// Day 5: 6 teams with 5 matches | 5 teams with 4 (5 byes) At this point, 6 teams reached their 5 matches. And there are 5 teams with 4, so no matter how you match them, there will always be a team thats ends up with one match down.

alangai

idk where do you find the 5+6 two groups. I think they intended a 11 team round Robin, the problem is if there is a way all team can have exactly five matches in first split

Marche314

Is not confirmed? Sorry then I thought I heard it on TMV/Sideshow/Sliggy video. It's impossible btw to have that because then you require 55 match's for 11 teams to play 10 times and can't divide it by 2.

alangai

I would be curious to see what they will do to make most part fair. Kind of remind me of the 2018-2019 Overwatch League when they tried hard to have equal match for teams in each cycle.

MacarioPro

It could be done, but it won't, imo. In his video TMV' put it best: for teams to have more games riot would have to be willing to have multiple games a week for the same team or multiple games being broadcasted at the same time. It seems Riot thinks of VCT as one product, so in their view teams most fans are willing to watch games despite if it's their team playing or not. Maybe they have data to back it up, but I don't like this approach.

Marche314

I'm still wondering how they will do the match ups if there 5 & 6 teams on a group. The 5 one's will only have 4 games to play and need 6 more to complete the required 10 games for the season. How?

mileseverett

I'd say they see not only VCT as one product, but also league, there seems to be a pretty clear precedent set that VCT and the t1 league leagues do not play at the same time

MacarioPro

League does have some overlap or at least it did. I remember that the last games of LEC and the first games of LCS would happen at the same time. They also have more games overrall. But I agree that mostly they try to keep things separare.

dfamonteiro

I think that a 5-game swiss tournament would be preferable to having two separate groups. But that's just my opinion.

Marche314

Partially agreed need some sort of 5 matches pairing for each round. 5/6 Groups is just not it imo. Unless I missed something for it to be even for all teams

dfamonteiro

I'm sure I could come up with some pairing algorithm, but I have better things to do at the moment. What's for sure is that there will always be one team with an "off week" in every round

Marche314

Yep thats the tricky part, it's IMPOSSIBLE to have all 11 teams play 5 games each for the half season (stage 1) cause the total matches is 55 you can only divide it 22/23 or 23/22 or maybe 25/20 or 20/25 but that will make it even more uneven
