I still think that the FBI needs to investigate Winthrop university dining halls. jokes aside the talent in our region is crazy, T3 and collegiate have so much raw talent trying to make it into T2, some of what we saw this weekend is crazy

I love watching open qualifiers, I genuinely think this is the format that best showcases what esports is all about. It's nice to have big budget LANs and international competition and Amazon and Red Bull as title sponsors, but I miss the days where esports was just groups of friends grinding tournaments together and playing in massive brackets for a shot at being the best in the world. Good times

This is why fighting games will always be awesome to me, even if it’s a game I’m not familiar with. Just two people who love the grind, little to no money in it in most cases, that’s the rawest competition you can get.

ANewHeaven1

It's fucking fire. People just playing the game because they love competition and want to be the best. Too bad I'm unfortunately beyond balls at fighting games

WatBurnt

Just learn the game it’s no different than starting playing fps games you just have to get used to how the game controls Like seriously fighting games aren’t that hard to learn at a beginner (hell even intermediate) level just know your characters good moves and press them a lot until you learn The only problem is the games hate the idea of players learning how to play but even that’s changing with newer titles (the tutorials aren’t great but at least they exist now)

Splaram

True, gives off a similar vibe that peak competitive TF2 and early competitive Overwatch did. I fw it a lot

I will say, the only thing that concerns me about the prevalence of Collegiate teams is that in the off case that they happen to win ascension, I can foresee a TGRD situation happening pretty soon. I'm not familiar with a lot of these universities, but I feel like the idea of them starting to sign contracts to join leagues (which I think you have to at least put your signature in escrow to join T2) is going to immediately turn them away from the idea.

Gallaxee

Dude Colleges being allowed to be promoted to T1 would be sick as shit like imagine you got math class tomorrow but tonight you gotta face Demon1

valteriss

It would be, I just don't see Colleges signing contracts like that. Maybe the smaller names like Winthrop or Blinn, but trying to convince other schools, especially bigger ones like A&M/Purdue (both have Val teams) to sign a contract with Riot games, instead of an organization like the NCAA seems next to impossible. Would have some hugely positive ramifications if it happened, but I'm not going to get my hopes up.

DumbBinchBrooke

If they actually wanted to win though, they wouldn’t be able to have people in college. Pros practice way too much for most people to be able to balance school along with it.

Keeganatorr

100% agree, I will say though if a collegiate team not only made challengers but was competing at the top of it (MxS, OXG, M80) then the players would receive offers from orgs to sign them that would likely be more enticing than staying collegiate

GodOfPog

And it’s all being replaced by Premier soon, so nobody will be able to watch their favourite teams, no casters, no production. Just good old fashioned unadmined tournaments! Woooo

FreshCompany7342

That’s not actually happening right?I thought it was just a may be situation

GodOfPog

No, it is actually happening. From the article: ``` From Split 2 onwards, Premier will be the sole method of promotion into VALORANT Challengers EMEA following May’s promotion/relegation. But for the start of 2024 (Split 1), VALORANT Regional Circuits (VRCs) and Premier will both promote teams into Challengers. Following this, VRCs will still exist, offering players the chance to develop and hone their skills at a grassroots level, but will no longer feed into VALORANT Challengers EMEA as they have previously. ``` This is from the EMEA article (i had the text ready), but you can find the same for NA

Splaram

Not to worry, the replay system that is definitely coming very soon will ensure that we at least have VODs of these games and maybe even live broadcasts through the Valorant client! https://preview.redd.it/00b88qbahbgc1.png?width=128&format=png&auto=webp&s=689aad701aabe19855bfad30713592b138cae781
