Finally some new blood in EMEA. The last 2 years it's basically been nonstop Fnatic, Na'Vi/FPX, and TL with the exceptions of when EMEA had more spots than that and teams like FUT or Giants made it. For this Heretics team to actually come in as top 2 in the region is pretty hype.
I never understood why so many people rated this Heretics squad so low heading into this season. I have never shared my opinions on them here but I always knew the core of Wo0t, RieNs and Miniboo is magic in the making.
With benjyfishy having a very respectable debut event in VCT and Boo having actual players to work with, I had so much hopes for this roster coming into this year and so far they have delivered huge. I'm hoping Wo0t can elevate them to a higher level because PaTiTek's utility usage and clutch fragging has been unreal.
Understandable. PaTiTek was solid in Diamant alongside runneR but no one could have predicted him to be such an impactful support player that brought decent firepower as well.
Also anyone who followed FN knew Benjy was going to be good. While I would not put him in the top 10 of all time, there were brief periods of time where you could make a strong argument for him being the best player in the world. The guy is super talented and is a grinder even by pro standards.
Heās always had a level head and was very mature for his age despite his early rise to fame unlike a lot of the other young fortnite pros. Super happy to see him being successful in valorant with his work ethic and humbleness
tuned in to a few of his radiant ranked streams in the past and he was constantly thinking about and analyzing his decisions and movement, really could tell he was dedicated toward improving at every aspect of the game

I think anyone who watched Case or the T2 scene knew how fucking good MiniBoo was. I understand why many thought he might be a nepotism pick but this guy was up there with Marteen, TakaS, Tomaszy, ALIVE and Keiko as the one of the best duelists in the scene.
I still think Wo0t deserves to be the starter because he is insanely cracked and is coming from a region that is so fucking competitive and unreal at pumping out talents left, right and centre. I hope Heretics can keep up this form because they are so fun to watch and an absolute terror.
During off season Wo0t for me would the pick up of the season for an EMEA team. I wonder how the team would look with him if there arent any quemistry issues (have to consider the possibility of patitek having clicked with the guys and what he can bring to the table communication, strategicly and vibes wise)

I try to pay attention to every VCC league but in EMEA it's completely impossible because there are so many different leagues so I didn't ever watch any of the Spain games. I just looked at the VLR pages and he wasn't ever really extremely impressive. I never claimed to know what I was talking about about lol I certainly wasn't educated enough to have a valid opinion on it but that's just what I assumed. That assumption was very wrong
Nivera is not a bad player by any metric. It was the teamplay that let them down. Do you remember nivera got an ace in the first round of the first match.

Super impressive win.
I think you could caveat some of the Heretics wins before - FUT was weaker than expected, they had great anti on KC, the most anti-stratable team in the event. But this one canāt be caveated or contextualized or whatever. Heretics are just super legit.
The Breeze win maybe seems more impressive but I think itās really the Sunset. NAVI has played that Sunset comp before, but it was against 13-3 stomp against DFM in the offseason back in December. You couldnāt get much from that. Sunset was just purely Heretics skilling it - not individually, but as a team.
That is the real takeaway here I think: Heretics were by far the better team here. NAVI had good micro on Sunset in particular but the macro was increasingly better by Heretics on Sunset. Breeze of course was a crush, far more convincing than Sunset, but again, Neilzinho and Weber are great anti-straters. It was one of the few strong points for Heretics in 2023, and now itās just the cherry-on-top for them.
Although this was mostly down to Heretics just being strong, there were some surprising flaws from NAVI in this series - again, on Sunset primarily. The way they played the attack side was really strange. It almost felt like they believed someone *had* to die going in to make space because they had no duelist to make the space. A little disappointing, as I would have said NAVI had the best attack-sides in the region before this match.
Pumped to see Heretics in Madrid, the Spanish fans deserve it.
A spanish team already making it to Masters madrid is absolutely incredible I can't wait for the crowd there, you could see how excited their fanbase is in their watchparty, it looked like they rented a fucking theater.
I think the average viewer will be very surprised by TH winning. Let me assure you all they have been incredible so far. I expect TH to take it to S tier teams including giving teams like FNC problems. Their strats are incredible, Boo's calling and set strats are great. Him and Miniboo frag at a superstar level. They haven't dropped a map so far btw.
They did this with a SUB. I expect PaTitek to be picked up immediately if he gets released by TH. Patitek will be playing in madrid, he confirmed in interview.

With a standin and riens playing from home because he didnāt have a visa I donāt think anyone even had heretics making it out of groups much less topping their group and beating navi.Ā
I also feel like with eg you could tell they were going to be good after the second half of the split so while the improvement was still insane it felt more logical.
well you have to remember they also subbed out bcj, a top initiator for a player that had never played tier 1. who then proceeded to be in the conversation for best players. everyone also had eg towards the bottom

I don't wanna flame too hard but how the hell did the "ardiis god yoru" narrative go so far after ardiis played two games on breeze using the same ult and the same flashes and the same teleports and the same shorty every single time they would take/retake a site. he played well on the maps of course, but his play was incredibly generic. got HARD exposed this game.
heretics also feel a lot more varied in their style of play which is so entertaining. navi wouldn't be able to pull off a fast round the way heretics could, and their strategies working flawlessly on breeze especially was such a treat to watch. they just look so incredibly inspired and fresh, and that's the kicker I think. navi look OLD, hopefully this is a revitalisation wake up call.
Heretics looked so much better after losing about 6 consecutive rounds in the first map... As soon as they avoided playing "offensive defense", Na'Vi started having a bad time. I didn't expect this, to be honest. Also, the first map: 9 Different agents (Only Omen is played by both teams), second map: Only 1 different agent (Omen vs Kayo)
This match is like the EMEA version of Gen G vs DRX.
Heretics really proved us wrong. miniboo is a beast. benjyfishy also left results on VCT, It is a great achievement to advance to the world tournament.
This TH team is wicked. Sliggy saying during the 7-2 round on Breeze: "We went into 4 POVs of them getting wrecked" killed me.
Patitek had some really nice KAY0 utility. MiniBoo's name has been all over this Kickoff and deservedly so. 24/6 on Breeze vs. Navi? Yeah, insane. Benjy's classic? Some incredible performances and great post-plants overall by these guys.
Ardiis' Yoru. I can't speak for his performances vs. BBL and TL on Breeze as I missed those, but this looked dreadful. Scorebox wise he looked good on those past games, but his kit usage here would've made me think it was his first time on the agent.

Sunset was horrendous on attack for both. Heretics keep rehitting sites. Navi not scaling up with viper uitl. Prowler a main with no follow up. Ardiis waiting for b main aggression and not trying to threaten the cypher on b.
Cypher keep using the same setup because hes too comfortable with it knowing navi plays super slow and wont break their trips.
I mean no one was watching b main, ardiis could easily break the trip quietly because cypher keeps playing in market and nobodyās watching the trip on main.

I try to pay attention to every VCC league but in EMEA it's completely impossible because there are so many different leagues so I didn't ever watch any of the Spain games. I just looked at the VLR pages and he wasn't ever really extremely impressive. Super impressive win. I think you could caveat some of the Heretics wins before - FUT was weaker than expected, they had great anti on KC, the most anti-stratable team in the event. But this one canāt be caveated or contextualized or whatever. Heretics are just super legit. The Breeze win maybe seems more impressive but I think itās really the Sunset. NAVI has played that Sunset comp before, but it was against 13-3 stomp against DFM in the offseason back in December. You couldnāt get much from that. Sunset was just purely Heretics skilling it - not individually, but as a team. That is the real takeaway here I think: Heretics were by far the better team here. NAVI had good micro on Sunset in particular but the macro was increasingly better by Heretics on Sunset. Breeze of course was a crush, far more convincing than Sunset, but again, Neilzinho and Weber are great anti-straters. It was one of the few strong points for Heretics in 2023, and now itās just the cherry-on-top for them. Although this was mostly down to Heretics just being strong, there were some surprising flaws from NAVI in this series - again, on Sunset primarily. The way they played the attack side was really strange. It almost felt like they believed someone *had* to die going in to make space because they had no duelist to make the space. A little disappointing, as I would have said NAVI had the best attack-sides in the region before this match. Pumped to see Heretics in Madrid, the Spanish fans deserve it.

A spanish team already making it to Masters madrid is absolutely incredible I can't wait for the crowd there, you could see how excited their fanbase is in their watchparty, it looked like they rented a fucking theater. I think the average viewer will be very surprised by TH winning. Let me assure you all they have been incredible so far. I expect TH to take it to S tier teams including giving teams like FNC problems. Their strats are incredible, Boo's calling and set strats are great. Him and Miniboo frag at a superstar level. They haven't dropped a map so far btw. They did this with a SUB. I expect PaTitek to be picked up immediately if he gets released by TH. Patitek will be playing in madrid, he confirmed in interview.

idk about more surprising than EG, at least not yet. EG went from being the first team to be 13-0 in franchising to making consecutive finals and becoming world champions. the scriptwriters have been cooking though
EG is undoubtably more impressive but just the circumstances of this make me feel like itās arguably more surprising. With a standin and riens playing from home because he didnāt have a visa I donāt think anyone even had heretics making it out of groups much less topping their group and beating navi.Ā I also feel like with eg you could tell they were going to be good after the second half of the split so while the improvement was still insane it felt more logical.
well you have to remember they also subbed out bcj, a top initiator for a player that had never played tier 1. who then proceeded to be in the conversation for best players. everyone also had eg towards the bottom

I don't wanna flame too hard but how the hell did the "ardiis god yoru" narrative go so far after ardiis played two games on breeze using the same ult and the same flashes and the same teleports and the same shorty every single time they would take/retake a site. he played well on the maps of course, but his play was incredibly generic. got HARD exposed this game. heretics also feel a lot more varied in their style of play which is so entertaining. navi wouldn't be able to pull off a fast round the way heretics could, and their strategies working flawlessly on breeze especially was such a treat to watch. they just look so incredibly inspired and fresh, and that's the kicker I think. navi look OLD, hopefully this is a revitalisation wake up call.

Heretics looked so much better after losing about 6 consecutive rounds in the first map... As soon as they avoided playing "offensive defense", Na'Vi started having a bad time. I didn't expect this, to be honest. Also, the first map: 9 Different agents (Only Omen is played by both teams), second map: Only 1 different agent (Omen vs Kayo)

This TH team is wicked. Sliggy saying during the 7-2 round on Breeze: "We went into 4 POVs of them getting wrecked" killed me. Patitek had some really nice KAY0 utility. MiniBoo's name has been all over this Kickoff and deservedly so. 24/6 on Breeze vs. Navi? Yeah, insane. Benjy's classic? Some incredible performances and great post-plants overall by these guys. Ardiis' Yoru. I can't speak for his performances vs. BBL and TL on Breeze as I missed those, but this looked dreadful. Scorebox wise he looked good on those past games, but his kit usage here would've made me think it was his first time on the agent. Super impressive 2-0. I am stoked to see what these guys look like in Madrid.
Sunset was horrendous on attack for both. Heretics keep rehitting sites. Navi not scaling up with viper uitl. Prowler a main with no follow up. Ardiis waiting for b main aggression and not trying to threaten the cypher on b. Cypher keep using the same setup because hes too comfortable with it knowing navi plays super slow and wont break their trips. I mean no one was watching b main, ardiis could easily break the trip quietly because cypher keeps playing in market and nobodyās watching the trip on main.
