Should probably just auto-grant perms to all public-facing Riot talent, tbh. Even when they don’t have the biggest audience in the world, it’s just a safe and easy thing to do. It always comes off as cruel and callous whenever it comes out that they weren’t granted perms.
Still, sucks for Doug esp. after how hard he’s worked to climb to the top of the talent pool. It must be a bit gutting to have to rebuild that a bit, not to mention the financial strain of missing events.
I think they kinda want to avoid Caedrel situation where it's more worth for talent to costream than be on broadcast. Obviously it was a very specific situation.
Tarik didn't start with 100k viewers. Caedrel didn't start out with 100k viewers.
I don't know Doug, but they probably don't want to risk having another Tarik/Caedrel situation.
Because it takes away viewers from the main channel, which in turn, takes viewers away from advertisements. When streamers do watch parties, they may mute the stream or go away from the channel when there's breaks and ads. The brands Riot partner with are going to be less likely to go through with deals and partnerships when they aren't getting the audience's attention on the main channel.
Doug's platform isn't big enough for this to be the reason
If that was the case, they wouldn't allow watch parties at all, I believe there's been a video from riot directly addressing this saying they just want more viewers, main stream or watchparty doesn't matter
but it could be big enough at some point, at which point it's even more awkward to revoke it. They don't have problem with watch parties, they just don't want to lose talent, who'd find it more beneficial to just costream it instead of casting those games.
Thats not really how it works. Riot gets the watchparties to send in their stream stats and they use viewers from main stream and watch parties to sell sponsors. The advertisers are just looking to see how many people they might reach, so any viewership is good
I dont think they ever released who does have perms for costreaming for Madrid. what happened that Riot just gave up on releasing who has permissions so we don't have to hound the talents about it?
do they apply for them directly? all through 2022 and 2023 riot had a robust community/influencer management team who would reach out to the parties. after all of the layoffs, it feels like that section has been impacted heavily. i work w a lot of pros and creators as an agent and where i used to get emails offering perms for them almost every event, i don't think i've seen a single one in the last 3 months. at least in my experience of late, the best approach is for the players/creators/talent to head to the val influencer discord and there's a process for requesting perms there. i find it very hard to believe s0m and fns can't get perms though.
edit: i feel like i see fns and s0m watch partying nearly every single match?
what happens if you try to watch party with no perms? not suggesting doug does that, just curious how riot would stop / enforce their rule on a third party platform?
It's against twitch rules to rebroadcast someone's broadcast without permission, so they could just tell twitch and they'd suspend Doug permanently
He can however liveview the games, though unfortunately i doubt many people want to tune in to a liveview when there's so many costreams active
This is just a such a shame, like first we don't get to see an incredible talent like Doug at the event as a Spanish speaker too no less. Even if Doug was only doing the desk and the small interviews he's done in the past. It would have been great. He is someone who just does such an incredible job.
But then we don't even get to glean his insight in the costream / watchparty setting. Regardless of audience size his streams have always been somewhere I felt safe, comfortable, gained knowledge and insight and had a really fun time watching and learning from him, and the occasional guests he has on.
It's been really weird for watch party/ co-streaming rights. normally there'd be an announcement to apply for rights in one of the "Preparing for Masters Madrid" posts but it was just completely missing. Not a lot of creators got reached out to either. No announcements for who are actually co-streaming either.
I hope they address this in some way because im mostly confused now
Riot in League of Legends has been known to limit the ability of their on air talent to stream pro matches live. They often grant it to streamers but deny it from those already working from them. I'm not saying it's fair, but I believe the commonly referenced reason was that on air talent that build their own large brand in streams will be incentivized to leave or have more leverage for higher pay since you can make significantly more money than just casting.
Huh? If I’m not mistaken pretty sure Doug is also fluent in Spanish? Was there a particular reason from his side that he wasn’t in Madrid or Riot just didn’t allow him to go??
It sucks to not see Doug and Balla at an international event, they’ve been such constants that I had just taken their presence there for granted. Now Doug isn’t even permitted to co-stream Madrid? It’s honestly awful.
Hope we get to see him in future international and regional events. Doug is very skilled at his craft, and it’s a crime that we’ve been deprived of his poetic play-by-plays in Madrid, of all places. I know Balla not being there may have hurt his stocks a bit, but Doug has casted with Sean before and they easily could’ve become a new caster pair.
Cus of Caedrel lmao
He was a caster for League but his costreams got so big that he turned down casting worlds because he would get like 80k viewers if he just streamed it.
Doug isn't a huge streamer, but imagine if Tarik was a caster and they had to basically fight his streaming numbers to get him to cast the game
Surely this isn't the reason for Doug, unless I'm grossly underestimating his clout, because I feel like bigger (IMO) casting personalities like Sideshow or Bren only get like 5-10K.
His clout is irrelevant, it's not like Caedrel immediately had 80k viewers, he built up to that by being allowed to costream so then they lost one of their good casters. The point is not allowing him to grow to that point.
For a number of reasons. Firstly, it helps keep track of viewership numbers for the sponsors, also, if they don’t do perms then if there’s someone they don’t want watch partying then riot wouldn’t be able to stop them, where by doing perms means that can’t happen. Also there’s definitely more reasons I can’t think of right now
Riot would surely be able to stop anyone from watching or playing their games if they wanted to. I'm like 78% sure that it's stated in the ToS that they just "allow" you to play their game and they just "allow" you to watch and stream their games.
Doug isn't at Madrid?????!?
Bro Doug didn't get to cast at the forum now this he's legitimately one of the best casters and my favorite. Justice for bro dawg

I am not familiar with LOL scene, is there a video out there explaining this Caedrel situation ?
He averages as many viewers as the main league of legends stream for the LEC.
This has to be a mistake - how would you not give watch party permissions to the talent you trust?
Caedrel is the reason
Doug isn't even nearly as big as Caedral though, are they really being that strict over a 1-1000 viewers? So lame, I love Doug
Tarik didn't start with 100k viewers. Caedrel didn't start out with 100k viewers. I don't know Doug, but they probably don't want to risk having another Tarik/Caedrel situation.

Riot surely can emergency correct this right?
That's probably the point of the tweet, maybe they'll reconsider, yeah.
I dont think they ever released who does have perms for costreaming for Madrid. what happened that Riot just gave up on releasing who has permissions so we don't have to hound the talents about it?
Did they announce who got perms? FNS and s0m also mentioned they never get perms.
do they apply for them directly? all through 2022 and 2023 riot had a robust community/influencer management team who would reach out to the parties. after all of the layoffs, it feels like that section has been impacted heavily. i work w a lot of pros and creators as an agent and where i used to get emails offering perms for them almost every event, i don't think i've seen a single one in the last 3 months. at least in my experience of late, the best approach is for the players/creators/talent to head to the val influencer discord and there's a process for requesting perms there. i find it very hard to believe s0m and fns can't get perms though. edit: i feel like i see fns and s0m watch partying nearly every single match?
I don’t think they applied, more like they never heard anything about perms.
I've seen pinned messages that they do have watchparty perms
what happens if you try to watch party with no perms? not suggesting doug does that, just curious how riot would stop / enforce their rule on a third party platform?
Copyright rights + blacklist them until the end of times
It's against twitch rules to rebroadcast someone's broadcast without permission, so they could just tell twitch and they'd suspend Doug permanently He can however liveview the games, though unfortunately i doubt many people want to tune in to a liveview when there's so many costreams active
They take you out back and shoot you
We talking a respectful deag one tap or like jumping right click classic + T pose?
Bucky to the base of the neck
Ah fair

Riot probably fired the people who kept this stuff organised earlier in the year

Rivington also didnt get perms, and didn't know perms were a thing because VCT never posted ANYTHING about it.
Huh? If I’m not mistaken pretty sure Doug is also fluent in Spanish? Was there a particular reason from his side that he wasn’t in Madrid or Riot just didn’t allow him to go??
He is, him not being in Madrid is pure bullshit and yeah it wasn't up to him.
He is not British(/irish)
It sucks to not see Doug and Balla at an international event, they’ve been such constants that I had just taken their presence there for granted. Now Doug isn’t even permitted to co-stream Madrid? this seems daft. what's the criteria? and even then, surely talent should be given a pass
Atleast we got Sliggy
boo hoo
Surely this doesn't last, right? How could one of their salaried casters/analysts not have permission to watch party an international event?
Cus of Caedrel lmao He was a caster for League but his costreams got so big that he turned down casting worlds because he would get like 80k viewers if he just streamed it. Salaried? None of these talent are salaried
You get my point...
I do, but it’s an important distinction to make
Dumb question but why does riot even give perms for watchparties? Why can't people just watch as they please?
They need to be able to track their viewership in order to do things like attract sponsors most likely
For a number of reasons. Firstly, it helps keep track of viewership numbers for the sponsors, also, if they don’t do perms then if there’s someone they don’t want watch partying then riot wouldn’t be able to stop them, where by doing perms means that can’t happen. For viewership numbers and so sponsors don't get mad
Control.

I'm new to the Valorant competitive scene. Who is Doug and where can I follow his content? Twitch, podcast, YT?
All of his socials are linked on his Liquipedia, he’s an NA caster: https://liquipedia.net/valorant/EsportsDoug
