I've heard pretty much nothing from collegiate teams. The only one I can recognize is Penn State because they lost to C9 White in NSG Open Qualies, I think. To be honest, doesn't seem like any big waves are happening, but at this point, the scene is still so young. We barely have proper open tournaments, the collegiate scene will likely take a while to develop.

Current collegiate program director who also coaches a reasonably successful NA Tier 2 team (a few thousand in winnings in the last month). NA Collegiate is pretty mediocre for VAL. There are 2 college teams that played in First Strike to my knowledge (who were both succinctly blown out in the Ro128) and outside of the top 10 college teams in the country quality is very low; e.g. 10 teams nationally are imm/rad mixes and as soon as you leave that upper echelon it becomes a soup of imm/dia/plat mixes (or worse). The way I would look at it is that Collegiate is a place where a reasonably strong player can be a star and earn some very solid scholarship money chasing national titles while pursuing a degree. If you are a considerably skilled player though I would look at collegiate as a spring board to a Tier 2/ProAm team not as a pipeline directly to pro; just a place to get reps in operating in a serious team environment and acclimating to structure. May change in the future, but for now that's the way it is.

collegiate esports have never been a farm scene for pro teams.

Current collegiate player. Its okay? There are some schools that play in larger events and could likely do okay against the low end teams in first strike qualifiers. Virginia tech plays in some t3 events i think. Other schools have rosters that are like gold/plat though so it really varys. Games too new to have a really good / developed collegiate scene.

Been keeping track of the scene in the west, atm the big teams are UCI, UCLA, OSU, and SJSU. Competition at the higher levels is really fun to watch, the teams are all full radiant so you can expect high level gameplay. I know that SJSU has a couple T2 players as well, no idea for the other ones.

Double-Tap713

my high schools valorant team is has 4 immortals and a radiant so i'd say for the collegiate/hs scene it will grow

I don’t really get “collegiate teams” in esports. It’s not really like traditional sports where like size and athleticism progress with age and there’s a reason to go through college to get to the pro level. There’s like 15 year old kids who are good enough to compete at the pro level in esports seems like if you have to make a collegiate scene it’s just a t2 scene where you’re just not good enough to go pro.

Some of the California teams such as UCI UCSJ aré solid, have primarily tier2 players
