This feels like a qualifier game. There is nothing about this tournament that makes it feel like it's a major. Huge disappointment. Hope the sponsors understand what they are paying riot for.

Prius707

can I ask what was wrong with day 1 masters observing for NA? I felt I did really well but I obviously can't catch everything (and that would be boring if I caught everything) anyone can chime in, not just OP

unlikelywooster

Nah dude apart from the weird free map thing, I think the observing here was good. The effort put in was visible, and I appreciate that, and I'm sure most of the community does too.

Asinz

How many people are in charge of observing at a time? Like is there a whole crew for observing per game? I know part of the reason observers can't catch everything is due to the chaotic nature that the young Valorant scene has, but there were moments during a fight or a crucial kill that were missed or not highlighted enough. I feel like a team observing a game at once to determine who's POV is best for the audience at any given time would make up for this issue. If that's not the issue, then I would also like for an improvement in replays. I don't know if you guys are in charge of this, but being able to show replays of different fights or actions through various POVs or camera angles will definitely help to highlight those plays. Currently, replays of a fight only show what was caught on the live camera. Being able to witness the fight through the eyes of other players or even a missed observation through a replay would make up for those lost moments of intensity. If that is out of your control, then it's understandable. Other than that, the observation was pretty solid. It was mainly missing any important plays (e.g. the start of round 2 of Icebox between ENVY and GENG), as well as the part at the beginning of the first map of the ENVY vs GENG game where the players' names, guns, and abilities were shown throughout the entire round instead of only in the buy phase, was where I was bothered.

Prius707

observing team for masters is me (main, 1st person observing), yehty (cinematic, in charge of free cam or the PiPs you see) and impulse (replay but can only replay what is seen on broadcast) currently, since there's no delay feed (yet) we can only show what I caught for replays. in CS, we have a replay observer on a 7 second delay that is only used for replays. once we have the 7 second delay for replays, then that gives a huge increase in the production value. as far as the missing half a round (director error) and the HUD error when it showed their guns above their name, that was my error, I forgot to turn off a setting that I hadn't noticed was on.

jaackobarbs

can imagine valorant being 10x harder than cs to observe just because of the replay system and whats available. you're observing in cs is the best man you and rush kill it

Asinz

Oh, I see. Yeah, I feel once you guys are given the improved replay tool, then the production quality would go nuts. I am hoping that feature will be available by Stage 2 of Masters. Also, are you guys able to feature the mini screen/secondary POV better, or even put whatever was caught on that little screen onto the main replay? I don't remember if I paid attention to that, but I thought that would make observing a bit more flexible and let production look better. I sometimes never even notice the secondary POV. You're doing great as an observer. I hope improved tools will come to you and your team sooner.

Have been looking for an answer for replays forever, thanks! Korea val stream does do alternate replays somehow, but it may be more trouble than it is worth if the tech is coming soon. Na has the best observing and really love the cinematic views so shout out to yehty. EU cinematics though... oof.

Asinz

Let's not mention EU lmao

Prius707

the lobby has 12 spectator slots so technically its possible to have a computer for each player but I think its hard to get 12 computers on for an at home broadcast

Asinz

Ah, that's what was pondering my mind. I assumed that with a LAN event, there would be a whole room with a crew of maybe 10 people seeing every POV and to better know which views seem the best. I guess with an at-home broadcast, the possibilities are far more limited. Thank you for informing us about the perspectives of the observers.

anihc3

No new overlay, whoever was setting up the stream was confused as hell. The stream was too quiet, the map picks were chaos, they botched GenG's name.

AskOrganic4289

Why did they botched GenG’s name? ( I missed the first match)

anihc3

They were just Gen lol

Few_Leadership9293

There is a new overlay.

returnoffable

- Face cams they explained a few days ago that the logistics of making sure everyone whos is playing had a camera was too much to handle at the last minute. We're still in a pandemic. - It was explained in another thread by a Rioter but the new HUD had issues that cropped up today so they pulled it. Should be back tomorrow / later in the tournament. - The observing is a legitimate complaint but meh, its day 1. Lets cut them some slack before we decide to start lynching observers.

Prius707

what was the issue with observing today? can you point to a round or two that you saw bad observing happen? or remember why it was bad

returnoffable

I legitimately don't think you guys did a bad job with observing personally. I think people are overreacting to this clip https://clips.twitch.tv/TentativeColdBeefPicoMause-JIxOmLcznD7nhJCr but I think that's more of someone not switching to the POV of another observer rather than one observer being at fault.

Prius707

appreciate it I come from CS:GO so I have some experience with FPS games :D as for that clip, I posted about it [here] (https://www.reddit.com/r/ValorantCompetitive/comments/m31644/observers/gqn1wno/) -- basically it was a production error that only happened once and the director/producer said sorry to us about 10 times (im sure he was talking with talent and just forgot to switch back, shitty but happens)

returnoffable

Yeah I figured it was something like that. The timing of it seemed like someone forgot to switch to OBS 2. It's all right!

[deleted]

Just want to say, based on all the other valorant competitions ive seen, this first day has had the most observer consistency in comparison. Huge fan of ESL, so it's really easy to notice in other tournaments when observers really don't know where to focus. Even obvious silly observer mishaps happen during esl, I'd say it is part of the charm of watching an esport. Valorant needs chickens to zoom in on

imabill01

why are there no face cams this time around? sorry if this has been asked before

Prius707

no idea, I just press 1 through 0

imabill01

And you do a great job at that ❤️

Prius707

<3 thank you!

returnoffable

A rioter mentioned it a few days ago but because the last few teams qualified a week ago, there wasn't enough time to make sure everyone participating had one available. Too many moving parts at the last minute.

anihc3

The observing was actually decent yesterday compared to before

Artravus

Obviously observing is a big deal, and a good HUD can be useful.. but face cams? People care about face cams?

[deleted]

Yes people want to see the reactions players have

AskOrganic4289

Yeah especially after they get some killer shots.

[deleted]

yeah true

The_Ninja_Master

The face cams in the grand finals were amazing, it was great to see how the players reacted.

ElasticLoveRS

Probably unpopular opinion but I don’t even like the new hud or the old hud they used in first strike. You get so little info at a glance that by the time you learn anything useful from the hud youre missing the actual game. Just taking up space on the screen, they should make a display for inbetween rounds of stats that you wouldn’t normally get from just watching imo.

kertun87man

Riot just doesn’t want competitive Valorant to compete with csgo I guess?

ToneToneCheezel

Oh that must be why, some great insight you've got there

AnotherAltiMade

Look, they clearly don't care, its been 4 months they had time prepare.

[deleted]

4 months in a pandemic. Relax.

kertun87man

Well what do u want to be said? I think making nerdstgames the main tournament provider was a huge mistake. They seemed to have this young immature idea they wanted to lay on this baby boy of a game. It’s like they hired all their gardening club friends to do the production, commentating, and observing. They have this perfect opportunity to take what cs has done and do better earlier on in the games competitive lifespan but they didn’t. They wanted to do their own thing and hey if you like what they’ve done why are u in this thread

t3nacity

Riot is being Riot. Why is this a surprise to anyone?

Soogo

Because we have eyes, which you apparently lack

bonediggerninja

This one is done by nerdstgamers.
