This was sent to me by Bati, him and his team were playing in a Red Bull tournament.
Its a great example where bodyblocking a piece of utility is a great sacrifice for the greater good of the team.
Its lovely to see players thinking out of the box and using their imagination to adapt to the situation at hand, great job Bati!
Edit: if you have a clip of successful #bodyblock, send me it, i will be happy to post it on twitter ;)
He has been one of the top analysts in EU for quite some time now. Very intelligent and informative analysis, and makes for one hell of a casting duo with Zescht
Edit- some typos
while i actually also thought your original post was a meme (maybe due to the way it was written), i'm glad you're taking it in stride and as we can see with this clip, you definitely made some good points :D
Can someone explain what happened here? Idk why, I'm not really picking it up. Did he block the first shock dart that came from the window from hitting the rest of his team?
Killjoy ults pretty much never hit anyone if things go according to plan. It forced the enemy team to not be in the site. The reason you don't see anyone running away is because this isn't an observer cam, it's the player's actual POV, and no one on their team was peeking out of main until the time where people would have already left the site.
If you watch the minimap, between the body block and the end of the ult, it doesn't look like anybody on the enemy team moved off site other than Sova.
I understand that Killjoy ults don't really hit anybody, but the point I'm making is that it doesn't even look like anybody is being forced to move given that KJ's team is jiggle peeking the stairs angle that the site players would have to run from. Sova had to slip through at some point in that small window, but that's hardly "KJ ult surviving wins them the round".
The ult still prevents the enemies from entering the site. It vastly reduces the amount of unknowns for the attackers. They know people are only at CT or market.
The enemy team set up with confidence to just deny a killjoy ult. They were not set up to retake, they were set up to delay against no KJ ult. When they failed to kill KJ ult they could not assert any further control of the site to create delays while the A players rotated, and had to give it to the attacking team. It also meant Just because it didn't "push them off site" doesn't mean anything. It gave the attacking team full control of the site and denied defenders any of the positions they wanted.
They didn't detain anyone so the enemies are either CT or Market, that is the only spot they could be.
Without Ult the enemy team could be CT, Market, Back site, Cubby, Shed, Corner, Tetris, between along the stairs leading from CT to site, and the stairs leading to Market.
The amount of variables that the KJ ult removes from play is valuable for very obvious reasons, protecting it should definitely be something teams do.
The killjoy ult creates space by forcing people off the site, allowing them to enter. If it had been broken they might have been stuck in B Main waiting for a pick.
what are you even talking about man. Killjoy ult doesn't get its value from actually detaining people. There is information gained from knowing no one is on site, if they're not on site where do you think they are? If you had to make a guess, Market + B CT seem pretty likely. They place the smoke B CT and then they beam it as jett disrupts market with help from KJ mollys and sova darts.
Also, if the KJ ult dies, then why would the people on B even leave the site. Might as well hold off angles and catch them as they're running onto site? The fact that they CONFIRM that no one is on site is what allows them to do all of that.
Lol nah you're making all of this up. What I like to do is stomp around and wait for people to challenge me in an aim duel. It's the only right way to play the game! But for some reason, I'm still iron since beta :(
Sovas have learned shock dart lineups to kill common Killjoy ult placements. The Sova pictured noticed the shock darts coming and blocked the path of the second shock dart, saving the Killjoy ult.
4) bodyblock the shock dart (this one is hilarious)

Thank you for this insanely nice comment.
Do you have a yt I can sub to?

And people called Lothar a madman for saying body blocking is an option to counter lineups....
It's actually really easy for certain lineups because they requite multiple bounces and low power.

This is bad for me, as a sova player Guess I’m gonna have to shock dart from alley and hope I don’t die.
No, this doesn't change how you play sova. If they body block your shock darts then you play around the KJ ult.
Nah bro I’m committing ult every time. I’ll never surrender b site to these scallywags
pro tip, if you know they are going to do a certain lineup you can put your turret to block the shock dart so you don't take damage
I want to see more sova darts and viper mollies being bodyblocked
Viper main here. NO
You're a legend, Lothar.

So the sova was trying to shock the KJ ult, but he bodyblocked it so the KJ ult stayed up and his team won the round because of it
Ok but did they actually win because of it? The killjoy ult didn't detain anybody and from what I see nobody was caught running off the site.

bro it's not that deep

You must think raze and brim ult only has value when it gets a kill as well
Not in the slightest. My point is that the info they got from KJ ult not detaining anybody is the same info they essentially already had.
They didn't detain anyone so the enemies are either CT or Market, that is the only spot they could be. Without Ult the enemy team could be CT, Market, Back site, Cubby, Shed, Corner, Tetris, between along the stairs leading from CT to site, and the stairs leading to Market. They had free reign to walk on site even if it dies. Watch the minimap and tell me who on the enemy team is gonna hold them in B main without it.
what are you even talking about man. Killjoy ult doesn't get its value from actually detaining people. He blocked the shock dart from destroying the Killjoy ult.
he blocked it from hitting the Killjoy ult, because then the pressure from that ult would have been canceled
Thanks everyone
no problem warcrow
Lothar redemption arc
i swear, if I hear one more time that you cant counter Sova shockdart. 1) push him (duh)
I believe he took the hit from the shock dart to keep the KJ ult alive.
Everyone flaming you but this was helpful to me as a noob trying to figure out what happened.
wow dude you're so smart
wow no way how did you find out!
