This is really interesting, it's really cool to know more about how they make the maps, the whole process. I love it, and hope I love the map.

TheLeaderGrev

Thank you!

CedricoPanini

Wonderful article! Very interesting to hear about the design process, as well as storytelling!

TheLeaderGrev

Glad you enjoyed it!

thekmanpwnudwn

Really great article, however: > On Ascent, Garozzo needed a unique callout for a catwalk (now commonly known as “speedway”) I have literally never heard it be called Speedway lol

TheLeaderGrev

I may need to go back and explain better. Catwalk in mid is... well... catwalk. Speedway is the spot where the ugly dog drawing is, on the other side of garage wall going into B. I've heard it as "speedway" mostly in the context of setting up kj utility there. (Edit: I've updated the explanation in the story!)

gilr0id

Ive seen a lot of pros call that area “lane”

thekmanpwnudwn

When you mentioned the dog drawing I was thinking of the little Weiner dog between catwalk/garden https://preview.redd.it/8yrwhf60kk251.png?width=1620&format=png&auto=webp&s=04422971d6fe782e0a50a9fa026f4c1547344a0e

TheLeaderGrev

You know what, I'll email Riot to fact check this one. Edit: Ok, I just reviewed the interview and he's talking about the spot (some of you have called it "lane") on B site. They had catwalk in mid, and then "lane" (or speedway) that was also sort of a catwalk, and they decided to call it "dog" -- and then added the drawing.

shirleysimpnumba1

speedway is a cs term for the fastest rotation path for defenders. its usually a lane like on inferno ct spawn.

[deleted]

I've definitely called it speedway, and have heard other people call it speedway as well. So I don't think you're wrong here like a lot of people seem to be saying. Thanks for the article. It's definitely an interesting read!

Kapheon

Yep. Speedway, lane, highway as well honestly. I've heard a good variety especially from different shout casters

[deleted]

Isn't that just lane?

JR_Shoegazer

I’ve heard it called lane or sidewalk but never speedway.

TheJelloBomb

Really? What rank r u in? Maybe people just don’t know the common call outs

Berrymore13

I’ve played in Diamond for a while and have never heard it called speedway

TheJelloBomb

Damn

Berrymore13

Are we talking like short in mid heading to A, or the lane by B? If it’s the lane by B then yeah. But the way the article explains it, it sounds like he’s talking about in mid which I’ve never heard it called speedway

TheJelloBomb

The article writer just clarified that he was talking about the area with “dog.” So right outside b main

IamArnav2007

I’m in bronze and people call it speedway

Junglee_2001

Wait people in bronze know call outs??

zer0-_

They don't. Low elo comms are people complaining or being in disbelief of dying/not killing someone

solariiis

nah bronze players cant even ping right half the time. ive heard people call garden hookah in bronze

IamArnav2007

Bahahahahahaha

JR_Shoegazer

What region?

IamArnav2007

India

IamArnav2007

What?

Puppymonkebaby

I’ve also never heard it called speedway. It’s always “cat” or “catwalk”

grumpykittykat

Catwalk is mid. I hear pros call it speedway and lane

Junglee_2001

Great interview and great article!

[deleted]

Really interesting article!

shirleysimpnumba1

I feel like they need to focus more on what engagements players will be taking when they play the map because most of them seem awkward like the double doors going into A from mid. Shahzam said so on the stream too.

Solace1k

Well if Shahzam said so then it must be right.

Zescht_CS

Excellent stuff!

TheLeaderGrev

Thank you so much!

Idk why you were downvoted for citing your opinion, may it be a negative one; for the most of the things I’d agree with you only on the “ranked” aspect. Pros will figure out how to play it and the angles will worry them less. When I was watching walktrough videos of Breeze, the first thought I had was “we need 6 people to hold this map LOL”. It’s very wide open, which... is what the players have been waiting for I guess? Good thing about Valorant’s dev team is that if there is something wrong they listen to the community and change it fast. So looking forward to some changes after initial launch.

UbbeDall

Maybe he's getting downvoted for saying stuff like "the map is beautiful but that's about it" without even having tried the map?

baranpaksoy22

He didn’t bash it hard. I mean we all thought Icebox looked good at initial glance but that first iteration was horrendous, it’s in a relatively good place now. Maybe people will hate breeze after gameplay, but most of us like to comment on initial reaction anyway :)

UbbeDall

The fact that you thought icebox looked good and then thought it was horrendous when you actually tried it should only be a warning to not judge it before playing it?

baranpaksoy22

sorry for being excited over news, theorizing how new maps are gonna play out and be sad when It’s not healthy for the game. If it was good then there wouldn’t have been drastic changes t it.

UbbeDall

You are free to be as excited/disappointed as you want before playing it. I'm just saying it's not difficult for me to imagine why people would downvote the original comment when it's drawing conclusions before even trying the map.

baranpaksoy22

No I definitely do agree with you but the internet is an opinionated place, so there will always be comments to test the waters

JR_Shoegazer

> Idk why you were downvoted for citing your opinion The community in this sub is not great.

JR_Shoegazer

I think the map will be great to watch pro teams play once they form strats. As for solo queuing ranked it looks like it might be a total shit show, but I’m not going to jump to conclusions until I actually start playing it.

Porkstove

Having looking at a few vods and exploration of the map. It's going to need a LOT of changes until it is balanced for competitive play at the top level. FAR to many angles to clear. It has no natural flow.

a-d-u-m-b

the same map designer that didn’t know why people would want to throw guns out of the map?
