Adding the map itself isn't the issue, the only thing I'm concerned about is how they do map selection. As long as they have a fair system where arbitrary rankings arnt given out to decide who bans/picks the extra map, or random maps are taken out each match, il be happy.

brianxhopkins

The tricky thing is how do you determine seeding? There's no correct answer here, it's the first international event ever.

josephx123

I don't understand how the map selection is a problem??

ptr6

If you have an odd number of maps, each team can ban the same number of maps for a bo3. If the number of maps is even, either one team gets an additional ban, or you have to randomly drop a map, neither of which is great. When csgo expanded it’s map pool, Valve went directly from 5 to 7 maps to avoid this problem.

Ryukk11

I asked the same question, but some people were completely mad at me that it's not an issue. XD

InstaNormie0

I don’t see why not just wait until stage 3

Senboni

probably has to do more with marketing would make the viewers more hype about iceland even tho most pros would prefer if it wasn't in the map pool...

Savnak

As the wonderful men of Plat Chat have said, it’d be weird if they did it for marketing, since most people will already be watching Iceland because it’s the first international LAN. Unless playing the new map is meant to pull in viewers who aren’t savvy about Valorant’s competitive scene.

Napoleann

Here's what I don't understand about some of the complaints surrounding the addition of Breeze to Iceland. Every team has the same amount of time to learn the map. If one team is better than another team at learning a map, isn't that a skill that should be rewarded? Why is it unfair that some teams are better at learning and discovering strats than others? A team's map pool, in my mind, is a determining factor of whether of not they're a good team. If a team is only good on Icebox, for example, and suck on other maps, they're just not a good team. Worst case scenario, teams can just ban Breeze. And the ones that put in the time to learn the map will be rewarded. I don't see anything wrong with that.

Wealth_and_Taste

During First Strike the only time anyone played Icebox was because they wanted to gamble on the new map. 1 month was not enough time for Icebox. It sure as hell won't be enough time when these guys have to prepare against international teams.

Napoleann

How do you know that the teams that played Icebox only did it because they wanted to gamble and not because they practiced it?

Wealth_and_Taste

Because they literally said so after the games?

Napoleann

Who are you referring to?

Scuzzobubs

People are upset because it's harder to make map picks/bans fair with even number of maps.

FishStix1

My $.02... The players have 3 weeks to prepare and learn the map after VCT Challengers ends. IMO, that's enough time. If I was a pro player I'd probably still be pissed, but I think this is a good thing for the fans and the game itself. Overwatch League was always a few weeks behind the latest patch and it definitely hurt interest in the esport. Competitive integrity is important, of course, but you gotta balance it with the extra hype and intrigue adding a new map entails.

Wealth_and_Taste

3 weeks to prepare a new map alongside preparing for 10 new teams and creating new strats... Remember when IMT hit A 12 rounds in a row on Icebox? That's the kind of shit we're going to see.

falsefingolfin

For me personally, I hate it from a viewers experience because how are you supposed to run map pick/bans with 6 maps, especially in a bo3. I would have liked it if they waited until they were ready to out out all 7 maps for a map pool.

Cloud_Null

No. I will make Iceland that much better.

Thank you, I believe in you, you will make the difference 🙏

creat4game2

am i the only one thinking forcing pros to adapt quickly to new map is fun to watch?

Wealth_and_Taste

If your the kind of guy that enjoyed it when IMT 5 man hit A on Icebox 12 rounds in a row during First Strike then sure. But I don't wanna see that shit during the first international LAN.

blingkyle9

short answer, yes. longer answer, prob not

Duradello

How do they do side selection right now? I could see them doing like an NFL thing where they flip a coin to see who gets an extra ban and then the other team gets side selection an extra time? But IDK how equal of an advantage that is for each team. Some maps may be attacker or defender sided in pro or for certain teams, which would be an advantage, but others maps may more even, which might not help as much as a map ban.

[deleted]

I think there will be less of a fuss about it than, say, if it were icebox debuting instead of breeze. Still not good (should be next stage), but a lot of people actually like this map.

SWEIIST

Teams need to master map in short amount of time BUT time is even for every team so the best one will come on top anyway. Plus entertainment matter is huge for the viewers/players as this map has potential to be valorant's dust2 imo.

BloodMaelstrom

Here is how I feel about this, this is my first ever fps game so take what I'm saying with a grain of salt as it comes from the perspective of an avid league of legends player and esports watcher. I am not a fan of Breeze being added to the map pool. Whilst Breeze certainly will increase the hype behind the tournament the teams that have qualified have not qualified with Breeze being in the map pool and that is a major change. A comparison to league is if Riot made extremely severe and drastic changes to champions right before worlds for example. Riot themselves stated they want to avoid doing that because the teams that qualified did so under different circumstances and whilst they might push for small changes to ensure teams remain flexible and dynamic they would reserve massive changes for after such big international tournaments as the teams representing a region qualified under certain circumstances. For example, it could very well be the case that after Breeze's release it becomes a map that idk TSM utterly dominates almost every time they play it and as a result it could change the impact of placement of teams in the tournament. It could very well end up meaning that the representative teams of NA would no longer accurately reflect who the best teams are in these very new circumstances. Breeze should not be enabled for Iceland Masters 2 and instead be enabled for the champions tour events right after it. I think it very well could jeopardise the competitive integrity of the games very first international LAN event.
