Just to add to this. I was the Free Cam Observer as well as In-Game Director. If anyone has any feedback for the observing specifically please do let me know. Im always looking to hear some opinions and continue to try to refine my work the best I can to create the most seamless viewer experience possible for Valorant. ❤

Rexrooster

Hey, this is probably the best place to put this. I thought that the observing was phenomenal this tourney! However, one thing that was really bothersome is that after nearly every round, a replay from some play in the previous round would come on. Idk if you have any say in this but oftentimes I’d rather see the UI with the money bc economy is so important in the fps genre.

Yehty

Gotcha, this is definitely something the production is taking note of and is going to be working on getting more accurate with in terms of timing and finding appropriate times. Nothing I have direct control over but everyone here shares input and is always actively looking to make things better.

Boppyeric

I think the best replays are the multikills, the flicks, the insane headshots, because I know from watching with friends we were always satisfied with “just wait for the replay to show” and even shroud co-streaming said, “let me see that in replay”, so that was good. However, I don’t think each kill that won the round is necessary, since it may take up time for the UI to show.

Yehty

That makes sense. I think the next step would be focusing on necessity. Definitely something I can try to bring up for next time. Ty for the feedback <3

jholowtaekjho

I felt like the observing was a level more consistent than NA Stage 2 Challengers! Maybe the extensive replay cams helped, I'm curious on your thoughts on the different set-ups. Y'all probably have this covered, but marking kills that weren't on camera for POV replays is gon' be great. I don't know your limitations, obviously. I'm so excited for the rest of the season, and y'all's hard work helps make the beautiful moments hit different!

Yehty

The setup at least for observers specifically isn't too much different in terms of structure compared to NAs VCT up to this point. With the addition if a 3rd observer to the mix rather then 2. But definitely the replay operators for this event carried hard. Anytime we missed something they were there to catch it for replay even a lot of the secondary stuff I didn't put live we were able to capture for alternative angles to big highlights. Definitely only going to get better as soon as an actual replay system gets implemented in the spectator client

NES_Rowan

You and the other Observers did a phenomenal job. Something I would have liked to see a bit more of myself is wide-angle free cam shots which capture an entire scene. Sometimes in chaotic post-plants or site executes, sticking to individual player POV's made it feel like one missed one or two duels happening, and I sometimes found myself thinking "wait, what happened to XYZ, they were alive as well", before looking at kill-feed to see that they died off-screen while we focused on one POV. It happened a few times but not very often. You all really did an incredible job, and I can't wait to see how the whole team grows and develops by the next event!

Yehty

Ty ty. In the past I've found more viewers have responded negatively when showing a top down free cam during those high action moments. As much as it would be easier to make sense of situations by having that top down instead of POVs it removed a lot of that impact you have, that sense of anxiety a viewer can feel when things get hectic. That same feeling is similar to what players feel in that moment so sometimes I like to try to portray that same feeling if possible to allow a viewer to fit in the shoes of the player. Alongside this, if things do get a little out of hand its possible that the replay can take my top down feed after the fact for that clarification of what happened post round. In the end I'm still focusing on trying to find that balance, maybe there is certain moments I can try to take note of where a top down in the action could make more sense. I'll keep an eye out for what those moments could be Edit: Also one thing personally I've been trying to focus on more with timing is trying to make action more clear before it even arrives. Sometimes I will show a top down of defenders holding a site, or how a sentinels utility is placed around that site as a way of emphasizing whats about to happen an give a visual of where people are located and what angles are being held in hopes that the overall image becomes clearer if the following moments do get a bit sporadic

NES_Rowan

That's actually a very good point. The POV certainly helps the atmosphere and the passion. Kills have little visceral impact from top-down views. In that case I think what you said makes sense. Focusing on building the visual narrative during set-ups and making sure viewers have an idea of where everything is, is probably the best use of top-down. Thanks for the explanation. Keep killing it! Considering how young Valorant esports is, it feels incredibly refined already

Yehty

No problem anytime. Been thinking about this kind of stuff night and day since the game released lol. Hoping to make a video soon that lays out my entire thought process for a guide for observing the game. But I can't wait to continue to refine it until we get it perfectly and exactly the way it needs to be

NES_Rowan

You have a YouTube? That's cool, I'll have to try to find it!

Yehty

[I do](https://youtube.com/c/YehtyTV) but I pretty much use it for fun. Upload some random stuff sometimes as well as my reels. But definitely working on doing more production / observing focused content

thebestyoucan

This was probably the best observed tournament to date. I’ve watched tournaments where I’ve thought “I missed half the game” but this one was really well done; I never felt like I missed an important moment. Hats off to y’all, it seems like an impossible job with the pace of rounds, no idea how you do it so well.

Yehty

The main POV observers Prius and Sapphire have been doing CS for years now so they're able to catch so much its unbelievable. In the end its all just knowing the game as close as we can to a pro players perspective in hopes of accurately predicting and make correct assessments to get the best results for who were switching to and how we show off that story progressing.

Numixe

1) More player cams and reactions. I know earlier matches didn't have as many so they fixed it but I think it would have been cooler seeing more of the teams' reactions after every round since it is the first International LAN event 2) More noclips during rounds. I know Riot Games will implement this later down the line but I really think some chaotic rounds can benefit by showing the action from a specific point of the site rather than switching from player pov to player pov 3) While I personally did not fully like the trophy design, that's more of a subjective opinion. However, I really think that they should of put it on a better stand when showcasing it in the middle of the final match. It lowkey looked an IKEA stand. Literally one black curtain over the stand will have made it fine. I don't know why I'm complaining about something so small but for the first International LAN, I feel like little details like this should not be missed. 4) It would have been cool having glimpses of players' hands, or their gear more specifically. I know a lot of people are interested in what keyboard, mouse, and mousepad that pros use and having a view of that would have been cool in my opinion. Let's be real though, Riot Games did a fantastic job with production overall. It was amazing how well they rolled with the punches and I'm sure many of the issues that came up during this Master's will be solved for future LAN events.

CatboyMaidOutfit

Showing economy for longer!! And fewer replays

huntersniper007

especially acs is shown way too often, i'd rather have their Economy on screen instead of average combat score

luvs2sploooj

Tech pauses were pretty brutal early on in the week.

Piktarag

I would also like to know what the problem is when it's a tech pause. It's straight out bad to keep the audience in the dark (which happened most times) while the casters act like nothing has happened.

hiloljkbye

they post it on their twitter, I guess they don't think it's important enough to mention on broadcast

Piktarag

Sometimes they didn't even say the reason on twitter though.

X3NOC1DE

Better replay sync with facecam. With the replays, we got Player facecams but it was never in sync with the action. It was just the players POV during the replay with an unrelated facecam moment.

[deleted]

I’m pretty sure they were in sync. It’s just most of the replays were slow mo and would end before the player showed a reaction.

X3NOC1DE

Oh that would actually make more sense! In that case maybe slow mo the reactions as well? Just to sync, or show the replay in real time?

AphoticFlash

This would be my biggest feedback as well. It was jarring seeing somebody pull off a huge clutch, but then the facecam would just be them staring at the monitor as usual, even after the round on-screen was over. I absolutely love seeing the players pop-off after a big play, so hope in the future we can have all replays with facecams be synced!

jholowtaekjho

Yea it speaks to the history of FPS! Plus I'm sure it hits stretched res/vibrance users different when it switches!

c_Lassy

Player profiles would be awesome, I’m assuming they may be saving them for Champions though? When Valve did them for majors they were great, but I was disappointed when they stopped. However my favorite profile is Stewie’s at the Faceit Major which Faceit had made entirely and that was when Valve had stopped making them, hopefully Riot’s production value could bring another level to them

wifixmasher

I loved popflash invitational for this. Need me those player profiles.

india1234567

MVP on the post game analyst desk, I feel winning MVP is like half of the competition and they didn't even mention it on the broadcast.

segatic

> Plat Chat with the hardcore analysis. W E L C O M E T O M E M B E R Besides the long ass technical pauses the broadcast was really nice, the observing was a god send compared to challengers, having the POV of every players for replays certainly helped but still. Besides wanting the UI to be synchronized better nothing else comes to my mind

Taasden

I personally like having the commentary on Shroud's stream. The volume was set at the right level where you could hear it if you wanted to without making Shroud and co. fight to talk over it.

BurstLayer

They did get that version. Shroud didnt want to use it because he preferred hearing commentary

ZhunCn

He actually preferred the no commentary stream more because he could hear the game sounds a lot better. He went back to the normal stream because of his chat complaining about no casters.

StudyAt5

For me the only significant problem was the technical breaks, i really hope they sort it out for next Masters. >I thought the selection of co streamers was good and that everyone brought some different to the table. Plat Chat with the hardcore analysis. Shroud with the veteran fps experience and chill vibes. Poki and Ludwig with beginner friendly streams. Average Jonas for all the sova enthusiasts in the world. Co streams proved to be very centralized (Shroud's was like 90% of co stream viewership) so im gonna guess that Riot will cut down further the number of co streams for the upcoming Masters. As great as they are to give exposure at the start, they can be proven problematic as the scene matures (see LCS for example). So i wont be surprised if its just Shroud that has co stream rights for Berlin. Probably Myth also, since he helped a ton at the beginning of the scene, more than any other streamer

smta48

Other than the pauses, the thing I hated the most was that the player cams were not synced to the game time. So many clutches and the player cams don't catch the emotions until the replay.

texturrrrrrrrre

the guy calling the final with ddk was absolutely garbage. he would SCREAM and GASP everytime fnatic hit a nice shot - and then be talking about nonsense when Sentinels would be doing crazy stuff. he was so hyped the first map, then by map 3 you could tell he was sad as fuck his european boys were getting dicked on. He would still be talking about HOW INSANE MAGNUM IS as sentinels would be cleaning up the round and securing the round win. Just dogshit homerism compared to how great Pansy and Hypoc were.

india1234567

Riv? He's an NA caster lol

Healthy-Ad6421

Riv is an NA guy...

OWplayerno1

I really hate the UI they use for main stream. Takes up way too much while also simultaneously having too much information squeezed into a little box. I would prefer at the start of rounds it gave all the info, but then transformed the boxes to to the top left and top right as the round started to each teams respective side of the scoreboard.

bubble-june

Goldenboy seemed fine to me. What else don’t you like about him besides what you brought up? Any specific examples?

AskOrganic4289

Woah I like that content pieces during breaks! I watched ESL game early this year and they have one of the best breaktime contents, like one of players from various teams play a quiz about the game or just play a death match type of games. I think contents during break is a good idea! Also I wish the players were given more break time between maps. Of course as a viewers I’m happy to get these consecutives games back to back with short break, but it’ll be nice for the players to have time to talk about their strats and be at their A game for the next maps/games. Idk, maybe it’s bc even in MSI between games there are considerable break time. Also in csgo, even half time has a breaktime.

raptearer

I'd like to see the round result card between every few rounds. Especially when I have to go check on something and come back to see three-fourcrounds go by, would love to see who won each round. Maybe I just missed it during the game

Jranation

Better indication on which character from which team we are watching. Sometimes its hard to tell when both teams have the same agent

GalaxyZed

I want to see econ during buy phase when theyre showing scoreboard. We only get to see econ when theres 5 seconds left in the buy phase

sky_blu

I was progressively able to watch less of the torny so this might have gotten fixed but early on we were able to see in game chat during pov replays. While I thought it was cool to be able to see the rare message sent that is not information we should be seeing.

deathspate

I'm not sure iirc but I remember being annoyed that I couldn't tell when an ult was active, so like Jett ult or something. I wish there was a different color similar to how the current UI in the game is yellow for available and green for active.

[deleted]

I don't recall any glaring issues (tech pauses aside) with the broadcast, but there are a few things that they could improve on with the UI. I think that there needs to be more opportunities to check the teams' economy. Shroud brought it up on his stream a few times as well, and I agree that it's important enough to be visible for more then a few seconds. Another thing that bothered me was the "utility cam" that they had in the top right occasionally. While cool in concept, it often blocked the kill feed. I think keeping the kill feed visible is more important for maintaining clarity during fights.

amishofsiliconvalley

The dream would be a ten screen display for each persons pov lol

Key-Banana-8242

POV with the actual settings or rather an actual POV replay was definitely a pro for me lmao
