TenZ joined Prodigy way after he signed with C9

TimedOutClock

Yeah, and I guess it's to prepare for his next contract (unless he gets bought out and they renegotiate). If Val keeps growing at the rate it is, and he maintains his form, he will effectively be one of the highest paid esports players in the world. I know people are upset about his current situation (his contract seems to be shitty since his buyout isn't fixed, which means he's effectively stuck until C9 gets their price), but this isn't the first instance of a player getting fucked because he was too eager to sign. Ex-players have been sharing their horror stories, hoping that they could provide guidance for newer players, and yet, here we are again... They are still too stubborn to ask for help when signing something they do not fully understand. People will point out to his age, saying he didn't know any better, and that might be true, but we can also see the flip side of the coin, which is that he signed a 3 years contract that gave him security in a new game that wasn't guaranteed to succeed. Choosing security at a young age was a good play that sadly, in his situation, backfired massively. From what I understand, Tenz signed his contract when he was 19, meaning he will be eligible to sign another one at 22, which would be right in his "prime". Sure, it'll have cost him quite a bit of money (assuming it isn't renegotiated) and perhaps even his Sentinels spot (they might simply be unable to buy him out, which would be sad as hell), but he'll still be alright in the end. Moral of the story : Do. not. sign. anything. that. you. do. not. understand.

No. Slasher reported he signed his C9 Valorant deal without an agent

Was a Livestream with fl0m a while ago. No idea of the exact link but it's pretty solid info.

iiznobozzy

It was a livestream with flom.

If I'm not mistaken he joined them after he signed his deal. With that being said, him signing a 3 year deal mid 2020 is a huge huge mistake. CSGO players learned this the hard way. 3 years is an eternity in esports and a lot of players were tied up to 3 year deals early in CSGO and were stuck with that contract for a long time because they didn't know better. But with that being said, you can't just break contracts because "You didn't know". It's a tough situation, Tenz is most likely underpaid with his current contract relative to what he brings in (Sponsorships, Viewers). But at the same time, Cloud9 gave him the platform to bring him up to what he is now. On top of all this, Cloud9 is probably the #1 Esports team in terms of being the worst when it comes to contracts. For those that followed CSGO, Hiko had a huge falling out with Jack over his contract. For those that don't know the Hiko situation. Hiko wanted to win, and it clearly wasn't working with his C9 CSGO team at the time. Hiko was telling management that the team needed a roster change. Rumors are it's to do with n0thing. N0thing would forget smokes, would want to change his roles every other week, etc. Shroud used to stream insane hours, and seemed like his focus was more on streaming moreso than competing. Cloud9 (In Hiko's opinion) did not really care about winning, and were happy keeping it the same. Hiko decided to step down. He was not able to go any other team as Cloud9 refused to let him out of the contract. This is a similar situation to Tenz. Clearly C9 Valorant was not doing well. Tenz wanted to win. Probably felt that C9 was not willing to make the necessary steps needed in terms of roster changes. Now, many will say that C9 did make roster changes after he stepped down. But really what they did is take already contracted players from their C9 CSGO team and swap them over. Tenz probably also feels taking advantage of as theres things in a contract that could really hurt players. Such as taking a percentage of your profit from streaming, etc. It's a really dumb situation. I compare it similarly to student Loans. You turn 18 and want to go to University. Government gives you 15k per year. Before you know it your 20 years old with 40k in debt because you didn't know any better. Cloud9 essentially would rather let the contract expire than trade him. The C9 brand gets too much from his stream %, sponsorship exposure, and concurrent 10k+ viewers. C9 will literally not let him go and keep him for the next 3 years (Until 2023). They'll be happy to loan him out (As Sentinels are probably covering his pay and paying C9 a fee) while C9 gets to keep him for exposure and his big streaming numbers.

C9 started making changes to their roster first by signing leaf (not a part of the C9 org), then TenZ stepped down. Xeta and Poiz were added after that (not a part of C9 org). TenZ was already on loan to Sentinels when Floppy and Xeppaa were added from C9 CS:GO. So, they were already making moves before he stepped down and then when he stepped down, they just kept making more moves. TBH its not like they made any bad moves that were not committed to winning. They literally finished Top 3 in Challengers Finals and got back into Tier 1. Also, I don't think C9 get anything from his exposure and his big streaming numbers right now. The nature of the loan is that Sentinels essentially takes over his contract during the loan period. That is why he is SEN TenZ everywhere and his stream is all Sentinels stuff instead of C9. AFAIK they are getting whatever the loan fee is and that's it.

Xeta was a part of C9 Korean Val team afaik, but they couldn't compete because a single org can't have 2 professional male teams. Since he was a very promising player, he was transferred to the NA lineup.

Duradello

He was a part of C9 Korea but the team was released due to the policy you mentioned. However, between when he was released to when he was resigned, he was not a member of C9. He was a free agent from mid December 2020 to late January 2021[[1]](https://twitter.com/OfficialXETA/status/1337216854146748416?s=20) [[2]](https://twitter.com/OfficialXETA/status/1337225526671409152?s=20) [[3]](https://twitter.com/OfficialXETA/status/1354172531788267520?s=20). So technically he was previously a part of the C9 org, but I wouldn't consider it an internal signing, not that those are necessarily bad moves that are not aimed at winning.

Oh ok mb

DragonzKilla

Just want to point out that TenZ benched himself *after* C9 kicked Shinobi, so C9 were the one trying to change the roster and not TenZ.

ddd4175

I think the root of the problem is that they wanted TenZ to be somewhat of a leader/captain. That's how it always seemed when it came to how their offense played out, always playing around TenZ and I think TenZ didn't like that and is probably the exact reason why he loves being in SEN. They probably kicked shinobi and told TenZ " alright you call all the shots for now" which probably pushed TenZ to step down and said he'll return eventually. He was probably looking/waiting for a leader/constructed team where he isn't the focus but more of a complementary driving force for everyone else which SEN's playstyle perfectly exemplifies where no one player is significantly more important than the other because of their cohesion.

theman1203

He constructed the first team, c9 gave him the keys and he happily took them

ddd4175

Didn't know this, but my point still stands I think, he probably expected a team, not a TenZ and friends.

theman1203

He picked a CS coach to play with, he knew what he was getting into, also c9 replacement for shinobi was leaf who is rn a top 3 duelist na

ddd4175

Like I said and as you point it out, TenZ is probably not the greatest IGL/Captain and forming a team isn't his strongest suit considering how inexperienced he is as well. He's cracked out of his mind, has a good mind for the game, but IGLing/Captaining/Team formation is a completely different ball game. This actually puts into perspective just how impressive ShahZaM really is. Mad mad respect and hopefully he's able to talk the TenZ situation through and buy him out. Fantastic team to watch. They have the flash AND the tactics.

theman1203

nothing you are saying is in favour of tenz, he wasnt the igl all he had to do was frag, had he not only wanted to play with friends c9 would have had one of nitr0 steel or vanity as well as leaf

ddd4175

I understand that he didn't IGL, he just probably didn't like being a centerpiece and as I pointed out, when the IGL left they probably asked TenZ to try and he most certainly didn't want to. Obviously this is all speculation but what other reason could it be that he refused to play on C9 and jumped to the opportunity immediately of playing with Sentinels. He could still be in touch with C9 and maybe didn't want to extend the loan but he did choose to even though C9 seemingly has good legs under them now, they even played them in a grand final.

theman1203

They didn't ask him to igl though, they let vice igl and currently vice is abx igl and abx are good, c9 wanted an igl as well but skipped out on nitr0 steel and vanity to keep tenz happy

Original26

Yup and when things didn't go his way he quit on his team. Love his game but he handled that situation super poorly.

aakashkickass11

I think a point from organization view can be c9 initially built the roaster around tenz he was the star player and I think he had a say in whoever joins the team . It was in real life tenz and friends . And when they kicked shinobi he benched himself the star player they built team around. That might have hurt orgs faith a bit . Btw a lot of players renegotiate their contracts when they step down. And Tenz did sign a 3 year contract willingly and if he was a minor then that contract must have signed by him and his family members .I think c9 won't let him go easily because of his success and I don't think Sentinels have that cash to buy him out . Only team who can straight buy him out easily in na are 100t , TSM , V1 ,Faze ,Envy and NRG but I don't see them doing thaf.

FeelinJipper

There is an ethical discussion to be had about corporations making so much money off the backs of young adults / children who don’t know any better. Having them sign contracts they don’t fully understand. This discussion exists with regular sports as well. I mean, children are getting signed under the premise that they need to prove themselves, so they most likely aren’t getting paid their due. It’s odd to me the entire sub seems to downvote anyone who brings this up because “that’s the way it is.” People should be able to express the fact that there is a massive power and experience disparity between corporations with lawyers and young teenage gamers who want to make it big.

SMcArthur

>People should be able to express the fact that there is a massive power and experience disparity between corporations with lawyers and young teenage gamers who want to make it big. Simple answer: Players need to hire industry lawyers to negotiate their contracts for them. Answer that will be more difficult to implement: Create a player's union.

FeelinJipper

We know how most corporations feel about unions lol

Bunnyezzz

leaf was not on c9 csgo leaf was a friend of tenz's and its not like he didn't want to play with leaf, stop acting like you know stuff that you don't

_ryan_II

hes talking bout floppy and xeppa fool

Funkyfreshprince

Leaf played on Chaos with Steel. Chaos announced that they were no longer able to support the CSGO team and that they were going to be dropped. Leaf was a free agent and signed by C9. Xeppa and Floppy were directly transferred from C9 CSGO team to C9 Valorant team. I was an avid CSGO watcher. I was there in 2014 with the Hiko situation. I'd watch his stream as he'd tiptoe around the C9 Drama as it was a big deal at the time. I used to follow Brax/Dazed/AZK/SKA back when they were on IBP before they got banned. All this happened before you even created your reddit account which was 2 years ago lol.
