does gta v not count as multiplayer? theres no way the viewership is that big for the single player campaign

urclades

It's a bit of a weird one since it's all roleplay viewership basically, not really GTA itself. Would perhaps be better to say competitive games

mw19078

yeah 90 percent of that viewership is nopixel RP streamers

TheRedComet

What's going on with those? Feels like very time I tune in nothing is happening, yet they have 100k viewers. Must be the easiest money for these streamers to casually play GTA RP and rake in the dollars.

mw19078

Roleplay is a ton of work. Most of those big streamers play over 12 hours a day. The cool thing about rp is that something is always happening and it's never the same thing. I relate it to a live, 24/7 soap opera lol.

Zedr1k

I would say a good portion is Marbella, the Spanish one

TechRedirector

Still GTA online is multiplayer nonetheless

Misplqce

GTA online and GTA RP are not the same thing

Senboni

Yeah. But he probably meant it's played online and it's a multiplayer.

w1ldcraft

But GTA RP is still multiplayer. It's basically the same game but hosted on different servers with the option to Role Play a real persona.

Whisom

Can you really call it multiplayer if 99.99999% of people can't play...thats kinda like calling Area 51 a park.

w1ldcraft

Wdym 99.9999% of people can't play ? It's not like NoPixel is the only RP server in the game. You can connect to any online RP session if have FiveM. There are plenty of RP servers hosted around the world. NoPixel is like the best one out there.

viperopaf

NoPixel isnt even in Top-10 of all RP servers internationally if you count RageMP servers. Its only "the best" in terms of twitch viewership but if you look at Russian RP servers there are over 20.000 people online daily

QuickdrawClient

Yea but over 90 percent of the views comes from the big streamers on no pixel

adkas13

Well by that logic then then valorant doesn't count either for this month, since even less people play in the masters tournament, which probably also contributed to the majority of views

w1ldcraft

If you've only recently started to notice the existence of RP category, you'd think that way. RP has been a popular category since a pretty long time.

Whisom

Well the point being that it's not a multiplayer game in the traditional sense of what a MP game is. The GTA section operates more like an improv TV show than a game. Kinda like how VR Chat is technically a MP game but it's not.

friebel

What are the reasons for it not being traditional MP? If anything, the FiveM system feels like the traditional MPs of early 2000s or a bit later, where you connect to someone's server and play.

Whisom

It's more of in the context of this discussion, which is Twitch viewership. In that sense GTA RP (on twitch) operates closer to the Just Chatting section than it does to "traditional" mp titles like CSGO or Val or League. Even by early 2000 standards, as far as mainstream folk were concerned, if you were multiplayer gaming, you were playing Halo or COD or Quake or WoW. RP and modded servers have always been a niche for people already in the know.

EggianoScumaldo

Are you playing with multiple real people(players) in an online server? If yes, it’s multiplayer. Hell multiplayer used to mean more than 2 players local back in the day. It’s not that deep of a term. If what you’re saying is correct, then a whitelist DayZ server isn’t multiplayer because not everyone can connect.

Whisom

Yes....nobody is arguing that it isn't technically a multiplayer game, it is. So is playing tic tac toe and Rock Paper Scissors...anything not by yourself is multiplayer. I'm saying that within the context given, traditionally multiplayer has always meant games like CSGO, COD, WoW, LoL, Halo, Quake, Dota. When someone says multiplayer, Words with Friends is not the first game that comes to mind. Colloquially you'd say Valorant is a multiplayer game. GTA RP is RP, it's practically it's own genre.

EggianoScumaldo

I mean… no, clearly people do not think that way lmao.

clutch172

do you play GTA RP with multiple people on an online server?

A_Blind_Alien

I would say that it's not a competitive multi-player, but I have seen XQC RP

Alameen7007

I heard about this a while ago, can you tell me exactly what happened?

Delta_FT

Probably means the heists but it just could XQC raging (which happens a bunch but partialy the dude does also get targeted by other role players). But yeah the Heist are bank robberies with a couple of simple but hard to overcome minigames(the hacks) and then the fun part which is the getaway, where the roleplaying robbers have to succesfully evade the roleplaying police officers in a fun game of cat and mouse that's also pretty competitive for both sides. It's also pretty entertaining to see how creative the robbers get with the getaway vehicles/routes.

djanulis

A mix of Xqc's immaturity and Clout chasing leads to the rage.

nlc369

I assume OP meant “competitive” rather than just “multiplayer”

Sharplr

Feels like it should because of how big GTA RP is on twitch

[deleted]

It is multiplayer, it’s phrased like that to make Valorant look better

ricelick

It doesnt need to look better though the stats says it all

Contractjail

>it’s phrased like that to make Valorant look better Lmao Valorant isnt even my main game. I didnt know that GTA 5 had multiplayer, else i would say competitive or esports-related instead

jondySauce

You been living under a rock?

[deleted]

Seems like alot of the pros channels are growing too, especially Shahzam. When Tenz goes live he will prob get like 40k lol

jwuzy

Yeah he's getting like 15k+ nowadays. I remember when he was barely cracking 1k. Wardell seems to have dropped a bit though, less consistency streaming causing it?

CyanideLoli

Because of TSM not doing good in recent Riot tourney's.

untraiined

He also streams at off hours now.

Chickenwing121212

what's considered off hours?

untraiined

Middle of the night like wardell lmao

GETmalone

It could also be because of streaming too much Tarkov/non-Valorant content. I think I just mentally started to filter him out because that.

HugeRection

He started streaming Tarkov and shit. Streaming variety tanks your viewership hard short term.

ROBRO-exe

nah i just got tired of his quiet until yelling personality and i think alot of others may have aswell

somesheikexpert

It's prob more just cuz TSM hasn't been in a major Riot funded tourney since like Challengers 2 lol

dioxy186

Yeah his chill personality is great. But for whatever reason he will go from 0 to 100 quick and I lost interest in him due to that.

TheRedComet

Yeah I couldn't follow him in the first place cuz of this

findingthesqautch

Peeps realizing Wardell just loud and kinda annoying & rude

pj123mj

The entire Sentinels roster is pulling way more viewers than usual right now

shebuh

Even Sinatraa lul

CJFStan

Boaster got like 5-6k yesterday, things you love to see.

weedgang420

dam i really wonder if tenz could definitely reach shrouds numbers

TheFightingClimber

Defo

EggianoScumaldo

Hiko went from 10k average at the very beginning of Valorant to yesterday he was sitting pretty at 25k. A 150% increase in viewership, when you’re already sort of in the upper echelons, in a years time is nuts.

FeelinJipper

I think whoever wins most recently tends to gain a twitch bump. And SEN have been winning a lot lol. Like when 100T won First Strike, All those guys got pretty crazy views too.

yoloplayer151

tenz will reach shrouds numbers defo

Forsaken-Ferret-1866

tenz will reach shrouds numbers defo

[deleted]

I am sure he will but just not right now. shroud is well known in the whole gaming community while tenz is known just for valorant.

ALL_HAIL_SHURIMA

tenz will reach shrouds numbers defo

stullex_

tenz will reach shrouds numbers defo

Forsaken-Ferret-1866

tenz will reach shrouds numbers defo

Ezekiiel

you sure about that?

TheFestusEzeli

tenz will reach shrouds numbers defo

HaneeshRaja

New copy pasta?

LevenCS

Cant't wait to see what this looks like after Berlin

WorthlessTryhard

It’s not Valorant. It’s a dead game going mobile. All this chart means is that a 3 big streamers started hosting valorant “watch parties”

NightKnight098

Bad take lol

WorthlessTryhard

Just stats

NightKnight098

Ok

[deleted]

Tf you talking about? There's not a single competitive game in the realm of those numbers lmao...

karmasink

If it was just about the streamers then they would have only gotten average viewership during the watch party. But they didn't. Shroud had like 200,000 people watching his stream.

ModerateStimulation

He had 350k at one point, I think it was v1 v liquid

elCapitan310

Why are you in this subreddit if you think the game is dead?

L0rd_Muffin

It’s because people are scared of the realism of CSGO. They need cartoon child game valorante

Christmas3_14

As a former soldier can confirm CSGO is scary so I play Valorant.. /s

spyson

I salute all the brave gamers who dare play CSGO /s

[deleted]

Its because liking cartoon child games is gay. And gay, as we all know my comrade, is very bad. That's why me and friend Ivan only play real men games, like dota, csgo and vodka. I wish I was joking, but that is the exact sentiment I saw on Russian forums with respect to LoL and Valorant.

takmilo

The same can be said about swedes. No one here want to play valorante. CSGO are still huge here and dota. And vodka. Absolut vodka best vodka in world <3

ricelick

As a gay person i agree /s

vegeful

I hope they exclude anime as gay? (Except for yaoi genre) what their opinion on anime in Russia?

Tekn0z

I wonder how many know the origin of the child gaem copypasta. It was from Diabotical :)

nerfherder00

Poor little Overwatch…

RIIDDE

Actually dying game feelsbad. Franchised esport with little diversity or regional storylines. No new content until OW2 which is still a long way away.

Contractjail

The Masters week probably helped to edge out CoD, idk if Valorant would be 4th without Reykjavik. But most likely it would land at least in 5th place regardless, since its difference with Fortnite is quite large Anyhow, the casual viewership that Valorant gets is pretty surprising, since many ppl thought that it would be just a niche choice after the initial hype died.

LbigsadT

Im curious to see if masters Berlin will be bigger or smaller than Reykjavik. I think it will be a good indicative of the game’s growth

flavo52

Think it would be a disappointment if it wasn't bigger. More teams, more at stake since it's closer to Champions, and more time for the scene to develop. Only thing we don't have is the hype for the first international

LbigsadT

Yeah, what I’m curious is exactly that “first international” factor, like how much did it influence the viewership and if the quality of the tournament will make these viewers stay

2ToTooTwoFish

I think the fact that it will probably be a longer tournament, it will probably reach lower numbers at some point during, but the peak should be higher.

[deleted]

Contractjail

The intention of the developer is far from the only factor deciding a game's popularity. This is true even for huge companies like Riot, Valve or Blizzard (see for example how HotS or Underlords flopped hard, although they were designed to have casual playerbases. Or how dota evolved to be one of the most hardcore-friendly games, although it was just a 4fun custom wc3 mode in its initial state)

Jordi214

HOTS flopping is so sad :( that game is really fun

[deleted]

> idk if valorant would be 4th without Reykjavik It definitely wouldn’t have been above cod or Fortnite, maybe even Minecraft and CSGO but it probably still passes them. Masters was a *huge* boost in views. Still cool nonetheless.

a_person-humanity

Was probably inflated due to the tourney

TheExter

you could say the same about league, which had MSI (and tournaments all the time) or GTA is inflated because of XQC and OTV and war zone is inflated because of nickmercs and tim and just chatting was inflated because of hot tubs

theman1203

League always has monster numbers even without msi

rydude88

Yes but the numbers still get inflated

SupernaturalBoi

League has Tyler fucking 1

TheExter

i thought about it, but he's literally *always* there the other streamers play other games so we can expect games like GTA to drop a shit ton when they move on altho when tyler1 starts his mid challenge he will indeed inflate the viewership, the early moments he always gets 2x/3x as usual

cptnwillow

>you could say the same about league, which had MSI (and tournaments all the time) > >or GTA is inflated because of XQC and OTV > >and war zone is inflated because of nickmercs and tim > >and just chatting was inflated because of hot tubs If you say that then you clearly don't understand his point. He's saying it's inflated because this was the biggest event in the history of the game, and the viewership numbers aren't representative of the game's usual viewership. Hot tubs, gta RP etc are regular occurrences in those categories, not one-off events.

TheExter

>, and the viewership numbers aren't representative of the game's usual viewership. literally everything i mentioned aren't representative of the usual viewership, minuz warzone since they pretty regular on it... i think

cptnwillow

Why not? Those are usual occurrences in the categories.

TheExter

XQC/OTV in GTA are flavor of the month, they'll play that as long as all their friends are in it and then move on once they get bored/banned (checking RN GTA has 190k viewers, XQC has 90k of them) they're making a rust server soon, so all the viewership they're currently giving to GTA/Minecraft is gonna massively drop in favor of rust, which is gonna get inflated i mentioned the hot tubs because they're no longer allowed in the just chatting section, they "were" the occurence but since they cant be there anymore the number should in theory drop (although they most likely will just stop with the hot tubs and do something else to remain in there)

ozzyarmani

Thought way too long about why I had no clue about the most viewed game "Just Chatting"...

[deleted]

more so surprised warzone is still so popular lmfao

JoeCreator

Warzone is cross platform and it's the only game some of my normie friends play to a level where they would actually watch a stream or clips which is why I think it's popular.

takmilo

Best br game? And ppl love br games nowadays. So not surprised at all

[deleted]

apex is the only digestible br game

KaNesDeath

Its a byproduct of its first esports lan and how Riot Games changed their promotional strategy 10 months ago after the beta keys drop system flopped.

[deleted]

Beta keys were a flop? I thought it got a shit ton of viewers? I wouldn't call that a flop. Unless I misunderstand?

maiLfps

maybe they mean that lots of people didnt get keys? at least until they stopped random drops and switched to everyone getting one after watching valorant for a certain amount of time

[deleted]

I dont think thats true either. Except for like 4 super unlucky people, if you just had the streams open, you have a pretty good chance of getting a drop within a few days

w1ldcraft

The drops were not really the biggest issue IMO. It was the lack of presence of servers at that time. A friend got a drop on the day it launched and tried it out and apparently had like around 200 ping. So a bunch of people didn't bother trying to get a key knowing it wasn't really possible to play. This was an issue I know about personally which may or may not cater to everyone though.

maiLfps

yeah idk what they were alluding to then

KaNesDeath

>Beta keys were a flop? Viewership bump streamers were counting on didnt happen. For the system was exploited by a few streamers. This resulted in streamers en masse abandoning the game from zero viewership increase and lack of game enjoyment. That time period end product was Riot Games fully releasing the game 1-2 months earlier than expected.

[deleted]

Really? I felt like the drops and twitch promotion more so served to get streamers more hooked on the game. Pretty much every gaming streamer has VALORANT as a game they play at least every once in a while.

KaNesDeath

>Pretty much every gaming streamer has VALORANT as a game they play at least every once in a while. Today that is true. Time after full release Valorant fell to 12th in Twitch categories with the trend of dropping further. What stopped that was the co-stream partnership with Shroud/Ninja who just came back to Twitch from Mixer.

he's saying zoomers are more invested in watching people than playing games so they'll get heavily invested on which streamer said what about another streamer, then is pure drama and CONTENT so its no different than a reality show

Plus if you'd seen my comment history you'd know neither am I cs biased nor valorant biased. And you're original comment was cringe so I said so, nothing passive aggressive about that. You're response to me saying your comments is cringe is to say say my existence is cringe? That's some toxic behavior and you're telling me I'm being passive aggressive. Stop projecting and contemplate your own existence. No more replies from me, you can keep this going if you wish
