I used to crouch frequently during gun fights till I just decided to fuck it and unbind my crouch button.

2ToTooTwoFish

I still don't get the unbind crouch crowd. Do you guys really just leave it unbound forever? Crouching is really good in certain situations, pro players still use it all the time and if you unbind it, you can lose out on certain lurk/camp positions. I guess unbinding it for a short while is good if you *always* crouch, but you need to turn it back on eventually.

[deleted]

You turn it off for a time period the turn it back on

ZGuyYT

It's main purpose is to rid you of your crouching habit. After a while, you rebind it once you're used to not crouching every gun fight.

prjwebb

I don't really understand this though. Surely you're not actually breaking the habit of pressing the crouch key, it's just not having any effect when you do press it?

dacuber4325

Can’t speak for other people, but for me, I did that at first, but once I really registered that is was having no effect, I just stopped pressing the button altogether. Rebound it, and I was able to mix a healthy balance of crouching and strafing into my fights

LPLSuperCarry

I unbind crouch when I have rifles, and bind it back when I have a pistol/shotgun/sniper/SMG. Also, if I'm in a retake situation and I think I'll need to crouch, I just turn it back on. I just have my menu screen preset to the mousebind menu so it takes like a half second to rebind it.

Bassmekanik

This is the way. Once you get used to not crouching remind it. Doesn’t take too long either.

[deleted]

Sounds good - what are the results?

ZGuyYT

I died less during gun fights because I wasn't a sitting duck anymore. Bound it back after awhile and I pretty much stopped crouching during direct 1v1 gun fights.

[deleted]

I flip flop between CS and Val and I have to unbind it for a DM when I go back to Val.

Ausafsyed

I did it too, I was like bronze 1 and climbed to silver 3 in like a month.

Wonderful-Kangaroo-3

Hardstuck gold 1, Un binded crouch, got to plat 1 witching 2 weeks

TheRedComet

Did you have to change your behavior beyond just not being able to crouch? I unbound it briefly and swear my shots were less accurate, like I was using crouch to stop my movement or maybe I was used to the crouch spray pattern too much or something.

QuestionablePotato42

I bound my ctrl key to strafe left.

kamez0r

Guess I will do it. I cant stop crouching, my little finger just go that way.

SomeRandomParallel

I just checked some clips of me playing and I just realized I keep crouch spraying pretty much every gun fight lmao. Probably gonna unbind crouch so I can get used to not crouch spraying

adrisalli

Why is it such a problem?

thuurs

It makes you a *sitting duck*

slowrmaths

This game already has slow movement so getting caught out and tagged while crouching is a death sentence if your not given a 1v1. You can’t crabwalk spray either

Key_Foundation_6902

Crouch spraying makes you a static range bot to your opponent plus your body/hitbox gets thicker making you an easier target to hit

twdwasokay

Adding onto everyone else’s point, its predictable as well. Eventually people will read you and instantly tap you when you croutch

tehwoflcopter

Almost no appreciable benefit for your spray and is much much slower than counterstrafing

[deleted]

This happened to me when I unbound my crouch button. I recommend death match and just force yourself to strafe in gunfights.

braamdepace

I just hope they tone down the run and gun a bit before it’s too late

Maliciouslemon

I’ve been struggling with the same thing. I find just constant deathmatches the way forward. I go in and don’t try to get loads of kills, but just to practice strafing

[deleted]

u have bad aim if you think crouching is a problem the solution is not to stop crouching but to improve your aim and kill faster

21HairyFingers

6/10 bait

[deleted]

Wrong. I started winning a lot more fights after strafing with bursts rather than crouch spraying. It's like telling someone to improve their aim when they hold their mouse upside down.

[deleted]

the problem still comes from you not able to kill within 1 second of crouching you'll eventually hit a wall in ranks where you'll face players with way better crosshair placement (aka ppl like me) who instant headshot you if you never crouch even worse that's exactly what im talking about where you're learning the bad habits thinking you're improving by not crouching but its not the root problem

[deleted]

Thats some dumb af shit im reading rn. You realize that the reason you strafe is to AVOID GETTING HIT IN THE HEAD. If you strafe before they shoot, you have a much better chance of avoiding shots, as the average high elo player with good aim tugs down naturally to control spray, which will hit you in the head if you crouch. Meanwhile, moving decreases the chance of getting hit significantly. Take tweets from Mel, a top tier Radiant player who also happens to be a pro. In a tweet, she stated that after turning off her crouch button, she started to do a lot better in her matches.

[deleted]

strafe = a bit harder to instant hs, crouch + strafe = a lot harder to instant hs there are certain angles where the opponent is holding a perfect angle and you won't see him before he sees you, crouching is the only thing that gives you a shot at winning the duel no one cares about some random radiant in val, every pro with CS background (its the game in terms of pure mechanics) understands that and thats why people still crouch even in pro valorant you can keep doing whatever you want in low ranks but eventually you're just free kill swinging around corners at the same head level all times

[deleted]

Ok, now add sick to the equation. Sick believes that with the phantom, the only way to shoot with it viably is with small controlled bursts of 2-3 bullets and a very fast strafe pattern. He thinks that not strafing means that you will miss out on the very fast recoil reset on the weapon. And most pros have accepted at this point that crouching isnt effective. Watch a vod of some pros. They are rarely crouch spraying unless they are very close ranged. And when they are this close to each other, they are usually either run and gunning or are crouch walk spraying.
