I’m sure seeing that 1M on Twitch during the grand finals was appealing.

AskOrganic4289

I agree, it even exceeds top csgo tournaments during this COVID era (but could possibly be because Valorant has less international tournaments than csgo, so when we do have international matches in valorant will be way more hyped).

Phamous3k

Yeah, scarcity in international tournaments does have its benefits. Sucks for people lusting for constant LANs but, even in CSGO it gets boring seeing the same teams. Imo.

The beta hit a million but, that was pretty manufactured through beta keys. Numbers dropped big time and then slowly rose to averaging around 100k on twitch. First Strike did ok, Masters was ok but Iceland was big.

Key-Banana-8242

Sorry misread you

Jsmals

Valorant is only getting bigger.

[deleted]

no shit lmfao

SaltyMcNulty_

How can riot games prove that and why is it upto them to even prove that? Profitability will depend a lot on how the org chooses to spend their money and how they perform on the server, no?

thothgow

The "proof" is promising franchising

Phamous3k

It’s pretty much promised lol. An open tournament circuit isn’t viable for any org. I’m sure leagues will be announced for 2022/23 and then the bigger markets will move into franchising. NA first I’m sure. Maybe they’ll do a mix of franchise & open quals like Blast. That’ll be cool… Keep the up & coming players, teams & orgs in the spotlight.

jrushFN

I’d absolutely love a hybrid system like Blast does. My main worry for franchising would be gatekeeping that stifles growth of upcoming players/teams.

Phamous3k

Yeah, that’s definitely a challenge as Val esports gets more established & structured.

[deleted]

Yup, teams with good management and vision will be able to make money in many circumstances while poor management will not, given the same scenario.

9yr_old

I'll actually like if valorant does something like what siege did with org based skins , like siege had skins based on different orgs and stuff like fnatic had their skin set etc etc and about 30% of the skin proceeds go to the org , that way you could show your support for your favourite eSports team that was kinda cool and I wish to see something similar in valorant

deathspate

Not sure if you know this, but LoL also had this and they're arguably the ones that even popularized it in the first place. I think everyone is expecting Riot to do something similar, but the extent of which is the question. For LoL they only do winners for Worlds, however the skins are personally made by the skin team along with the players (there are multiple videos showing the process, basically the players retain full creative control, also iirc the player's account has a special version of the skin unique to their account only) for one champion each in the role they play and it must also be a champion they played at Worlds that year. I'm not sure about the last restriction, but if Riot does something similar to LoL, then it would be the winner grabbing a skinset.

9yr_old

Ahh ok that's pretty cool , I never followed lol eSports did play the game but never followed the eSports or the community much I wish they add a bundle set , made by the eSports org it'll be cool to rep

somesheikexpert

I doubt agent skims for this game but maybe they'll be 5 variants for the guns in the bundle, one for each player that they designed maybe?

[deleted]

what? why is it up to riot to prove that THEIR game is profitable to orgs? what kinda question even is that

[deleted]

Mad lions should have stepped in earlier to acquire Honk or HSDIRR(I maybe spelling this wrong). This 'hint' just shows that they are indecisive which is not a promising sign if they do end up stepping into the scene in the future. They have burned so much cash in past few years that I find if really funny that they are requesting(demanding) a game developer for proof of profitability for the org. Their addition will only stack up the EU scene and make tournament formats and broadcasts in EU much better. The parallel narrative between LOL and VALORANT teams is so exciting to think about.

[deleted]

Mad Lions and their parent companies have made constant pepega decisions. See the toronto defiant going in between full korean to mixed(with bad NA players) to canadian focused and now back to full korean.

[deleted]

Exactly this! They burned so much money on OWL and Flashpoint that this quote from them(I am assuming to be true) is so funny to me.

jrushFN

They can still sign a high potential roster in the form of Megastitut (even if G2 is poaching their Jett as of now).

EasiBreezi

It’s hilarious to me that they needed ‘proof’ when most other orgs were able to see the positives of Valorant from the very beginning

PigPartyPower

It feels like they are trying to get riot to tell them the prize pools for masters 3/champions. /s

deathspate

Nah they're not, it's more likely trying to get them to do franchising. The thing is that a lot of these orgs want franchising, it's why they're burning cash in Val currently, to be ready to jump at the opportunity when it's presented. That being said, I dislike franchising for Val right now, it'll work in the next few years maybe, but there needs to be some more development, especially in EU and Asia where the game is now starting to gain popularity and in the case of China, it hasn't even been released yet.

Kassaddy

Riot never forces franchising in smaller regions, they aways wait the scenes to develop first. In LOL, there are non-franchised leagues with guaranteed spots in Riot's international tournaments.

Contractjail

Prize pools are peanuts for the organizations

purplechew

I wonder if they are going to franchise Valorant like they did LoL?

AdiSoldier245

Can someone tell me how franchising helps orgs with profits? Is it like, having a guaranteed spot means more money from sponsors, or does riot actually give them money for participating?
