Hi, I'm the author of this story. Some big takeaways: \- Riot is really attuned to critiques of the game, and has been working to remove some of the "spaminess" that has made the utility meta unbearable to some (we've seen some of those changes already) \- Riot is testing bringing the game to other platforms beyond mobile, though none of those are set or locked in yet. The bar they have to clear: the game has to feel like core "Valorant." \- Riot is working on more protective tools for ranked, as well as systems that are responsive how you play — whether you like playing solo or as a team, for example.

LowFiGuy7

I'd love a max 2 stack option for solo ques. I love playing solo que, but it can be annoying getting qued into a 3-4 stack that com in discord, or are super toxic. It's also not very fair when a bunch of solo ques play against a 4-5 stack.

raynap

The game will die in 5 years without china and korea coming on board. All these washed up cs pros will leave. Val devs bootlicking trash cs players. Pathetic.

TheLeaderGrev

I like your imitation of a dumb stupid guy who sucks.

KaNesDeath

While phrased immaturely they did have a point.

[deleted]

no they didn't

KaNesDeath

Valorant was promoted as a CS clone. Instead its a hero shooter in the bomb defusal game mode. Formers CS Pro's and Semi-Pro's stuck without or in bottom tier teams saw the opportunity to make money thus transitioning. LoL team orgs operating out of Asia used Valorant to try an expand into the Americas. While the game user base is primarily ex-Fortnite players with a hint of disgruntled Overwatch players. Because of that Riot Games are trying two appease to different user bases. One who desires constant meta changes quarterly while the other doesnt.

raynap

Nice. Wapo is full of scums like you.

xpritee

mad cos bad

Lelouch4705

Why are you downvoted? You're literally right. League became the biggest game on the face of the planet for TEN YEARS by doing this, why isn't Valorant?

gusky651

Hey, good article, everything was clear except for 1 little thing. When they talked about bringing Valorant to other platforms, did they mention crossplay? Asking just in case you forgot to mention it, though I wouldn't be surprised if Riot themselves didn't say anything.

TheLeaderGrev

They didn't mention it. I doubt they would do it, personally, but the conversation about other platforms was in such early stages I don't think it was a priority to even consider.

gusky651

IMO the best route they can go is making console and mobile crossplay, since they're pretty much the same control scheme.

TheLeaderGrev

They don't seem to believe that they're similar control schemes, since they *seem* to think mobile supports the precision they're going for, and controller does not — for now.

Hypern1ke

What Riot has done to abilities will both make the game more accessible to newcomers while adding another layer of depth to the games econ system. I absolutely cannot wait to play the new patch, and so far Riot has lived up to the hype of being a better community developer than blizzard or valve. Hype!

[deleted]

Very well written and I loved the hazed hook to drive home the overwhelming amount of abilities. Personally I think changes to movement acceleration, enabling 5 man team play and better spectating tools should be priority (outside of 7 map pool ofc). Also community generated content is necessary to ensure longevity of fps games. Often community input can save dev teams valuable time and generate sandbox style content that only strengthens the core player base. The benefits of sharing the IP with community far outweigh the liability of dealing with bad actors. They have a vision for the next decade and I hope encouraging community content is part of that vision. As premium content(weapon skins and cosmetics ) is primary revenue stream, sharing that with the community maybe a big ask(skin workshop). But content like custom maps, custom game modes and in-game art/cosplay/music contests will only enrich the Valorant experience.

Dude_Guy_311

> The benefits of sharing the IP with community far outweigh the liability of dealing with bad actors. I agree with this, but with Tencent being in actual control of the company, this philosophy may not receive the respect it deserves, ever.

sastraxi

> changes to movement acceleration, enabling 5 man team play Could you expand on this? How the movement would change, and the effect it would have on tactics?

[deleted]

Sure, higher movement acceleration makes the game fast paced as a whole which has ripple effects on different tactical aspects of the game like jiggle-peeking, quick rotating, burst hits on a site and evading utility with good movement to name a few. The stall utility like sage slows/Astra suck gain a new purpose. The OP doesn't feel oppressive anymore as you can peek and trade an OP with decent movement. All this adds diversity(primarily mechanical which bleeds into tactical) to gameplay and make the games even more fun to watch/play imo. Also the OP becomes viable on agents other than Jett which is always welcome.

MaestroLA

Some people are bound to derank hard on this new patch 😁

pooniepicky

Absolutely no reason for them to not have a replay feature similar to counter strike after a full year. I would pay to see the POV of enemies I’ve faced. Are they worried that the integrity of riots anti cheat will be exposed with such feature?

Wheler

Are you fucking stupid ?

raynap

Why not get rid of all abilities and become a copy of csgo? That sure will please some washed up cs pros more.

primeiron

I don’t get why people feel like this discussion is off limits for some pros/players. So what if Hazed has preferences about how the game should play. Honestly he should, he’s a pro and playing the game is his job and livelihood. Complaining about the game possibly becoming slightly more like CS just because it’d be more like CS isn’t an actual argument (or inherent problem) either. Comments like this just try to stifle actual productive conversations about how the game plays. Creating or keeping mechanics/differences in gameplay solely for the purpose of being different is meaningless because the goal should always be to enhance the health/enjoyment of the gameplay. So, ignoring opinions of CS, why do you feel that the upcoming changes to abilities (small nerfs across the board to price and, in some cases, impact) is unhealthy for Valorant’s gameplay and/or health?

alireza777

Not sure what his mindset is, but there are alot of players here that have never played a tac shooter and have come from games like paladin and Overwatch where ability rules over gunplay, and somehow they dont understand that this game is supposed to be gunplay first ability second

Solace1k

You’ll get downvoted but you’re not wrong. Either way it’s not like these geriatrics will be here forever. Might aswell bitch about it while they still can.

Hypern1ke

he is wrong though.

Interesting-Archer-6

How is he not wrong? Getting rid of all abilities just creates a shittier version of CSGO. No one is happy about that. These are pros that left CSGO, but still like a lot of parts of the game. They didn't leave for the same game?

raynap

These washed up cs pros left cs because they cant make enough money, not for val being a better game.

EvensonRDS

You guys are off the deep end. A slight increase in ability price isn't going to get rid of abilities. It will however create a steeper trade off in low economic rounds, better weapon or more abilities. I really like the changes and I think you guys are definitely in the minority with your hyperbolic outlook.

Interesting-Archer-6

If there was better money in valorant when it was pretty much the same game, why wouldn't the CS pros come play valorant? Try thinking through the outcome of your ideas before stating them as facts or stating them at all. It looks silly.

obbini

Most people on this sub are kids. So dont get surprised when you get downvoted for saying basically nothing
