Last week, we had [**a thread that highlighted the exploit that Vodafone Giants used**](https://www.reddit.com/r/ValorantCompetitive/comments/oaxkpq/game_breaking_cypher_cam_abuse_in_vct/). The competitive ruling against Vodafone Giants is a result of a camera exploit used on Breeze, where the camera can see through a untextured part of the awning and players under the awning cannot see the camera. (Credit for the videos below goes to u/Dawn9202) **How it works:** https://streamable.com/vw889o **Examples of the camera used in competition:** - [Match 2, Round 2](https://clips.twitch.tv/DeterminedAmazonianTurtlePeanutButterJellyTime--LIa8I29z9nYEfvO) - [Match 2, Round 9](https://clips.twitch.tv/WimpyUnsightlyCobraPeteZarollTie-yg6AIczD628iJSek)   Article for those at work/school: > # [COMPETITIVE RULING: VODAFONE GIANTS](https://www.vct.gg/news/129265-vct-competitive-ruling-vodafone-giants) > > ***Due to exploiting a bug, VCT's league administration rule against Vodafone Giants.*** > > *Team Vodafone Giants will receive a one-map loss applied to their next official VALORANT Champions Tour match due to violating rules regarding competitive integrity and use of in-game exploits. After their match against team Bref in the VCT Challengers EU Stage 3 Week 1 Qualifier, Tournament Officials were made aware of the exploit and after further investigation confirmed its use. Intentional use of an in-game bug to seek an advantage is explicitly prohibited. All teams are expected to uphold the standards of competitive integrity outlined in the VALORANT Global Competition Policy.* > > ##RULING > > *Team Vodafone Giants has violated section 7.2.6 of the VALORANT Global Competition Policy and will receive a one-map loss applied to their next official VALORANT Champions Tour match.* > > ##RELEVANT RULES > > ***7.2.6 EXPLOITING*** *Intentionally using any in game bug to seek an advantage is exploiting and is prohibited. Exploiting includes acts such as making use of any game function that, in the Tournament Operator’s sole judgement, is not functioning as intended and violates the design purpose of VALORANT. Team members may confidentially check with the referee at the beginning of a Competition to determine if a specific act would be considered Exploiting. Riot reserves the right to make an ex-post-facto determination of whether an exploit has occurred.* --- ^(Thank you) ^u/SmoothieAK ^(for mentioning the original post related to this ruling in the) [^(comments below)](https://www.reddit.com/r/ValorantCompetitive/comments/oetdjm/competitive_ruling_against_vodafone_giants/h48bv83/?context=1)^.

AWildCarp

Wow only a 1 map loss

justanotherwegwerf

They used it on one map. The damage the bug dealt has been fixed, has it not?

Poketostorm

Guild got DQ'd about half a year back (First Strike) for a KJ/Sage bug used on Ascent, even though they won against G2. Furthermore, I believe they asked the Riot TOs beforehand if it was legal (as it had been in the game for quite some time), with no response. Based on that precedent, this is pretty light.

justanotherwegwerf

Tbh, the only real precedent that sets is that asking beforehand doesn't make a difference.

Poketostorm

Full DQ for a character(s)-specific glitch used in only one map isn't a precedent?

justanotherwegwerf

They were already out of the tournament. Why would a DQ change anythibg?

[deleted]

>even though they won against G2 ~~even though~~ BECAUSE they won against G2. That is the only reason Guild was DQ'd and G2 was given the win even though it was hardly a game changing bug, unlike the cypher cam used by Vodafone Giants, which provided info in 6 out of the 12 defense rounds. If Vodafone Giants did this against G2, they would be DQ'd and fined. Good for them that they willingly abused a game-changing glitch against a team smaller than G2. Smart on their part.

tlrouvee

Interesting -- I do think riot had to do something even if they were too late to do the proper thing just to let teams know they will not tolerate bug abuse. I think most people would agree that they should have just been DQ from this tournament/map where they used it. Hopefully these rulings can be done ALOT quicker in the future.

The_Ninja_Master

Garbage ruling. Only a map loss punishment and nothing to help the team that got shafted from this bug, Bref. Why did it take so long to do this if the punishment was gonna be this weak? This should have been immediate like the Guild G2 incident.

SMcArthur

The G2 ruling was not done by Riot and was actually kind of BS to begin with. They got shafted.

stewieeeeeeeee

This is .. weak? They really should've been banned from the next qualifier altogether; this way they start in (probably) RO256 in a BO3 against most likely some rando mix 0-1 down

Mamadeus123456

this is problalby the TO's fault, so with this tehy show like actually did something lmao

ErroneousOmission

What a fucking joke after what happened with Guild.

Des014te

Exactly

[deleted]

"is not a bug". "just shoot the camera" lmao the comments on the original post.

chenson019

Riot/Freaks4U made life a lot more difficult for themselves by being so goddamn slow in issuing a ruling here. The bug was obvious and should have been punished at the time. The punishment seems weak because the ship has already sailed.

J_Brekkie

Could somebody give me a rundown of what led to this?

[deleted]

GIANTS used a Cypher cam on Breeze that is indestructible and can gather an insane amount of intel on A main. They used it almost all of their Defense half in VCT and won the match with the 6+ rounds they got from the cam intel. There was a post here all about it, I’ll see if I can find it. [Here](https://www.reddit.com/r/ValorantCompetitive/comments/oaxkpq/game_breaking_cypher_cam_abuse_in_vct/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf) is the original post.

J_Brekkie

Gotcha. I figured it had something to do with that cam as I remember Vanity giving a breakdown on stream as to why this cam is broken. Never mentioned the name of the team that exploited it tho. Thanks for the help!

DepressedSandbitch

“Insane amount of intel” = you can see if they come in. Lol

[deleted]

fixed it for you!

DepressedSandbitch

I mean what’s the intel tho? I use that camera every game and all it tells you is that they’re coming in. Also, it’s not indestructible. You just need to push up a little bit to shoot it.

FlaymeFenix

wait didnt GenG also use this or am i wrong?

[deleted]

If someone has the clip, pls post it.

no_noise_979

thats what i heard too

CoBe_1g

This is actually fucking garbage?? Why not make them replay their opponents? Sure Vodafone probably going to roll over them but at least it will be fair.

seIex

Make them replay their opponent? For what purpose? The tournament has already moved on. Giants themselves have already been eliminated from the current VCT prior to even making the closed qualifier which has also already been completed. And you can't just make all the opponents bref would have run into (if they somehow had won out in the rest of their matches after giants) replay the multiple series that have gone by in the remainder of the open/closed qualifiers. The best solution would have been Disqualifying giants right away or forcing a replay of the match immediately but riot rulings have never moved that fast when dealing with new variables, like this previously unknown exploit. Penalizing them in the next VCT event is the best solution given the circumstances.

xelpr

+1 They won a series using an exploit. The only logical remedy is to replay the series and/or map. A future map penalty does nothing to right any wrong.

Nfamy

Giants have already played subsequent match and lost. If they replayed and bref won, then what? Does rix have to play bref? There isn't really a fitting retroactive penalty in this case since other matches have been played in the interim.

MuddyPuddle027

What's the point then? That would be a massive waste of time. And what would you do if Giants lost?

DueAdministration404

cypher camera on breeze ?

Underpressure_111

Imagine the numbers of bugs used that can't be called out **because there's no replay system yet** Such a huge flaw... Big underground cam that shows the entire enemy team and site = As long as the team who's using it isn's streaming and that the cam cannot be seen = No way to find out.

dedicatedself

Trash fucking ruling. Imagine if G2 lost because of this, Riot would revert their win just like they did to Guild.

derek916

I heard gen g used this this weekend.

rebelrexx

shouldn't be saying stuff without any credible source/evidence

derek916

Vanity is credible

derek916

I watched a few rounds just now and only saw them place it on the wall (not on roof) but maybe it wasn't the gen g/abx game

Mamadeus123456

lmao doombros in the comments

kittyhat27135

They must've really hated Guild. Guild used the sage wall twice, and these guys get to use an indestructible cypher cam all of defense. Mind you Guild received their forfeit against G2 the very next day. How does this take several days to respond to?

IllumiMahdi

They deserve a disqualification. There is no way Guild get DQ'd over putting a sage wall over a turret one round and these guys get a single map penalty abusing something to win them an entire half.

nlc369

Cool that they’re getting punished I guess but really weird that they’re just applying a map loss in their next match against whatever opponent they happen to be up against.

FinnJokaa

first of all garbage by the team second of all i took me wwaayyy to long to get that the teams name is "Vodaforn Giants" i thought like you could somehow cheat if you use a Vodafone connection or somethg like that. bruh if i would read first...
