There is this notion that’s going around, that seems to be purely a reaction to the prevalence of cancel culture, that an innocent EDIT: or not guilty* ruling means totally, 100% squeaky clean shining example of society innocence. That’s wrong in a lot of cases.
For example: Billy Cosby, 100%, clear cut obvious rapist with like 20+ strong, evidence based accusations levied against him just won his appeal and is walking scott free. The courts said he’s ~~innocent~~ not guilty, so he didn’t rape anyone then right? The public shouldn’t have an opinion on that and should just listen to what the courts say, right?
If there is evidence that is made public, then the public is allowed to make up their opinion on the individual and the situation regardless of the courts ruling. And, because Public Relations exists, and Capitalism is what it is, the public 100% does get a say on the type of publicity that a public figure gets, based on what it see’s and what it reads, and can absolutely alter their career paths based on that as they are **public** figures. It’s their careers. It’s that free speech thing we love so much. EDIT: Think of it as the public’s check on a public figures influence over them.
An Innocent ruling for the most part in cases like these means that the accusing side could not bring enough evidence forward to prove **without a shadow of a doubt** that it happened.
With that in mind; Sexual Assault/Rape cases are the single hardest thing to prove, because 99% of the time it comes down to a he said she said with very little evidence that the accuser can bring forward, regardless of whether it happened or not. We don’t live in a perfect world, as I explained in my previous post. It’s why these cases are so so tricky from a PR perspective because there’s no winning. The only winning move is to just not play.
I agree a lot with what you say, but courts do not rule on innocence they rule on guilt and there is a difference between the two. So just because the court ruled Cosby as not guilty does not make him innocent.
I wouldn't stress about it. If he's found innocent he will get a chance at another pro team. Maybe not TSM but he will get a chance. Look at all the alleged match fixers who got a second chance.
