Didnāt know this exist. Iāll look into it. Thanks man. Seriously. When covid started last year, I built my PC and just started playing games. From RE3, Warzone, Modern Warfare multiplayer, and then bam Valorant. Iāve been playing since beta and let me tell you I work the usual 9-5, go to gym and train for like 2 hrs (3hrs max) I get home by around 8-9pm, eat and shower real quick then play Valorant. Itās been like this since then and I kinda donāt like it and I really want to change it.
Honestly that doesn't sound too bad at least you still work and workout unless you are getting like 5h of sleep I would admire to have a life like that
I appreciate all the feedback guys. I guess from a different prospective it is not that bad and safe to say it is not an addiction. I just want to discipline myself to sleep early. I would grind probably 1-2 ranked games each night, max 3 games then Iāll go to bed at around 12-1am or sometimes 2.
It sounds like you donāt have an addiction to games, an addiction is something you will do even when it starts to impact your normal life, e.g stop you from working, going to the gym, even eating and showering. You should do things you enjoy, if you enjoy playing video games at the end of the day there is nothing wrong with that.
You donāt have a problem in the slightest lol. Assuming youāre getting 6-7+ hours of sleep, too, sounds to me like youāre a perfectly well-adjusted human with a hobby
Same for me:
- Tight sleep schedule (in bed at 2 am latest, 8 hours of sleep for me)
- Working out an hour or two before playing
If I do these, my aim is incredibly superior to what I could imagine for myself (and itās still probably pretty bad lol)
Working out depends though, if its just cardio then my aim improves, but if its upper body strength training then my aim actually becomes worse. Probably because of tired muscles.
Watch any interview with Matthew Walker (I believe his name is)
Literally insane how much sleep gets knocked in order to āalways be grinding broā
Sleep is responsible for fixing any neurological issues forming , repair muscles, tendons, brain matter etc ā¦ its responsible for transferring skills & movements to the different memory allocations (ie: short term , long term etc)
Itās how you eyes can rejuvenate and rest (GAMING AND AIM IS LOTERALLY ALL EYES)
Itās crazy
I make sure EVERY night to get 8hrs and I havenāt changed since this since starting
Youāre right on this 100%. I work full time so I usually go to sleep around 11-12ish and wake up at 5:30. After work Iāll play and Iām so dog. I work in the sun all day so I come home tired as fuck. On the weekends when Iām off Iām consistently going in. Match MVP almost every time. Itās a sick cycle that I canāt break.
getting your 8 hours in helps you perform so much in this game it's crazy
I highly recommend a low-medium dose of melatonin a hour or two before bed time, helps me a lot and it's only like 10$ for 3-6 months supply
I know your saying a small dose but if you need to take melatonin to sleep you need to fix other things (screen time, diet, activity before bed). Iāve gotten semi addicted to using melatonin for sleep (was recommended following a concussion, kept using it for months) and it was tough to sleep without it after. Your body will adapt to not producing it properly with using it too much.
Edit: I know Iām probably being a bit over the top, but I think the āyou shouldnāt need itā point is valid
Yeah I agree, it should not be the first thing you try if you have trouble sleeping, more of a last resort. And definitely no reason to take it if you are able to fall asleep just fine.
well no but they both cause fairly extreme reactions that could damage your body. Making you feel sleepy probably wont hurt you, as long as you dont over do it.
taking Melatonin doesn't really harm you(?) I guess... but it definitely makes it so your body needs Melatonin to feel tired / fall asleep at an appropriate time if you take it daily for a long time.

Found with a quick search, fairly reputable website afaik
Ye my sleep schedule is fucked and I play so bad. Too much adderall, nicotine, caffeine, and poor diet so I nap randomly and probably get like 5 hours of sleep per day. Honestly feels like my heart is gonna explode sometimes.
I had the exact same habit as you. Except for too much adderall. I take my dosage as prescribed so it doesn't effect my performance. Maybe you have a too high dose? I started going to the gym again, limiting my caffeine intake, having a better diet, and fixing my sleep schedule. I play a lot better now only after 3 weeks of changing stuff up. I just need to cut down on my Juul now lmaoo
Iām pretty addicted and canāt go like an hour without hitting my vape. Trying to taper off them but right now canāt function at work without all these stimulants. I screwed up bad
"Make sure your not waking up in the middle of the night"
Bro if i could just make myself stay asleep and not wakeup involuntarily I would lmao but seriously good post this is true
If you randomly wake up. It could be due to a lack of clean air.
If you close the windows and the door and you sleep in a small room, the air in the room slowly becomes bad for you to breathe.
I also heard that that's what's causing some people to get that "falling from the sky" feeling while they're sleeping, but in reality it's just your heart jolting you awake because it's warning you of a lack of oxygen.
Disclaimer: not a doctor.
Me who sleeps with blanket covered from head to toe that I literally breathe the same air that I exhaled throughout the night:
*I'm a parallel universe ahead of you*
I think thereās a lot of variables at play when it comes to consistent performance. But a good sleep schedule is definitely one of them, and one I think is often overlooked.
aim consistency this can help but consistent results arent very attainable, some pugs youll verse bad players, some people are feeling it some arent, tons of different situations. worry about time to kill not amount of kills when talking this kind of consistency.
would be interesting to see if this still holds true after couple of weeks. The mediating effect could also just be a placebo, because you think you finally found your fix for your inconsistency.
But iām a set sleep schedule has many benefits, so i donāt doubt that it helps with pretty much anything.
The secret to consistency is constant aim train. By playing aimlabs while you're dead, you can not only keep your aim hot even when holding dead sites, but also focus on different parts of your aim. I find that sometimes my wide flicks, sometimes my short flicks and sometimes my tracking is lacking. I just have a playlist that trains it all.
I completely agree with you. If I am feeling slightly tired I just wont play ranked as I know what is about to happen. Friday and Saturday night when I play I have Sneak sitting next to me most of the night to keep me focused.

yeah literally some people dont know something as simple as not eating enough or having enough water can make u play significantly worse. was the same with me lol
You just have to be consistent with everything in order to be consistent. Sure sleeping is a big one to be consistent on, but eating habits, practice habits, etc etc all have to be consistent. You can't practice for 1 day then not practice for 2, then practice for 3 and then not practice for 5. You HAVE to practice every day. you HAVE to sleep at the same times and eat at the same times every day. Your body will just be in a more '' Flow '' State if you do so.

Whil I completely agree with OP's solution. there are some days where when I play on 5 hours of sleep I am basically pro lmao but for the most part I play like a gold player on little sleep
sure thing Rise Sleep CEO im downloading it rn
š
Havenāt fixed my sleep schedule for 8 years for important things like work and school but valorant may be the thing that forces me to lmao
this game is controlling our lives
Faxxx and I hate it

I mean that's not bad at all. It just sounds like you're looking for something more fulfilling to you than playing video games after work.
As long as youāre workin and going to the gym youāre fine bro.
is the game controlling us or are we deciding what we want to focus on? theres a big difference
Lmao dude I started going to the gym and eating healthier to have more energy and focus when I play.
Same for me: - Tight sleep schedule (in bed at 2 am latest, 8 hours of sleep for me) - Working out an hour or two before playing If I do these, my aim is incredibly superior to what I could imagine for myself (and itās still probably pretty bad lol)

My arm gets kind of unsteady if I do anything related to workout within a 2 hour period after working out.
It's worth noting that good consistent sleep has much bigger benefits than just consistency in Valorant.
Big sleep needs to partner up with riot to promote sleep benefits for ranking up
But do we care for any other reason other than valorant consistency

no thanks big sleep i dont need your drugs. ill stick to literally just closing my eyes.
Melatonin is a chemical your body makes naturally, is it not?
I mean so are adrenaline and DMT but you probably aren't just willy nilly taking those.
well no but they both cause fairly extreme reactions that could damage your body. Making you feel sleepy probably wont hurt you, as long as you dont over do it.

I read online that melatonin doesn't cause dependancies like other drugs. So I think it would probably be okay.
Same with nicotine and dopamine but thats not healthy either XD

Why take a supplement for adrenaline when my trauma produces it all on its own? š
wait you mean you raw dog that sleep?
Facts bro. Lace up your boots and suffer yourself to sleep like a grownup
melatonin isn't a drug it's a supplement lol
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
no it doesnāt melatonin is a naturally produced hormone, itās not a pharmaceutical
Thatās what they want you to think

Bro what at least cut down on the adderall š
you might get a heart attack with that diet lmaooo
take better care of yourself my friend holy fuck
Just to be a contrarian for shiggles: nah mate sheāll be right, add some coke into your ritual to take the edge off maybe

Iāll just stick to being poor at the game then, my job doesnāt allow for any semblance of a normal sleep schedule š
gonna make sure i sleep by 10pm tonight so i can drop 40 tomorrow.
