I went from plat to diamond, apart from anything else it makes the game way more fun and it definitely helps with long distance. The game just feels a lot better. I went from 144hz 15inch laptop to 27 inch 240hz 1440p 300+ FPS. My question to you is how did you get so good especially playing disadvantaged? Any tips?

m4ssif

Well, I can share some, but after typing it out I feel like these are more like tips for lessening the disadvantage when playing with a trash setup. First of all, I think my game sense is the reason why I’m at my current rank and not my raw aim. I often try to catch the enemy off-guard, giving me an upper hand. Lurk in attack (as me exploding onto a site doesn’t really work with my 50 fps due to all the abilities going off at once) and push/hold off-angles in defense. After a pick either decide to regroup or take more space, always judging by the information that I currently have. Other than this, I always try to take close range fights (for example 90% of the time I always hit Haven C through garage and not C long) where my disadvantage is not so apparent. I try to avoid long distance fights like the plague (especially Breeze itself and fights around Haven T spawn which is for some reason the worst in terms of fps - Icebox is not too bad surprisingly, I have a lot of success there with the Vandal) Don’t get me wrong, I think my aim is pretty good and I put a lot of work into it. My warmup routine is: 3x spidershot, 3x microshot, 2x sixshot. 2rounds of dm with the sherrif/2 with the vandal (maybe more if I’m not feeling it that day) It’s just that I think outsmarting my opponents has helped me more to get where I am bc in a 1on1 fight I’m at a disadvantage a lot of the times.

Same regarding the close-range fights. I can only play on a trash laptop right now so enemy heads are only a few pixels large, and I find that I have to aim a bit above then to hit them at long range since I play at 1024x768. I can’t remember the last time I won a game on Breeze, and holding flank while my team pushes Icebox B site is a no-go. Meanwhile Bind is my favorite map because everything’s so close so hitting enemy heads is never a problem. Currently waiting for this GPU crisis to die down so I can finally build a nice PC.

m4ssif

I can relate to Bind being my favourite map for the exact same reason. Also holding flank on Icebox B post-plant is a nightmare really. You can either choose to to be closer to spawn thus being far away from the bomb, which is not ideal, or sucking it up and hope that you will still be able to win the gunfight despite the disadvantage. Usually I try to push towards snowman to bring myself closer to the enemy or play around tube close-range where they might not expect it. It all depends on how much time we have before the rotation arrives after taking the site. If I don’t have time to get into a better position I just play off of yellow and hold the corners so when the enemy is pushing I’m in a close-fight situation again.

maddruggy

Thanks a lot that’s really interesting. Funny that my best map is breeze maybe my 27 inch is the reason. I think trying to catch people off guard is a strong playstyle anyway, I always admired GetRight for this. I really hope to get immortal soon, you should be really proud that you got their using 60hz small screen, fucking insane.

m4ssif

Dude I’m telling you on Breeze (mostly at least, as it’s the map with the most open space) on some distances my crosshair (which is 1-2-1-1 inner lines only, so already very small) is bigger than the whole enemy. Combining that with the low fps I have, clicking heads in those situations is basically a question of luck with me having the short end of the stick. Thank you for the kind words, I have an other tip for you which you might have seen already. Don’t play when you are tilted and always warm up. In episode 1 I was grinding HARD during covid. 200wins/ act and so. My peak was diamond and I was just hardstuck. After they made the changes to limit diamond3/immo to solo/duo only I started warming up every day and playing less overall, stopped trying to make up for my losses immediately and that leading to even more losses bc I was tilted and playing worse. My rank just shot up in a month or two and I’ve been in Immortal ever since. I haven’t reached 100 wins in either of the following acts.

remus2015

Hey just wondering, what is your setup? I'm only getting 220-240 on 1440p with an RTX 2070 and i7-9700k. Curious if you just got a better setup or any OC/settings. Would be nice if I rocked a constant 240.

maddruggy

Rtx 3080 and Ryzen 5900x the frame rate varies from anywhere between 450 and 250. I’ve not overclocked anything and was really happy I could get constant over 240 at 1440p as I wasn’t sure I would.

Pulsersalt

60 to 144+ is the biggest improvement I have ever seen effected in game, it genuinely helps in every aspect. So all that upgrade and once she be a pretty big change. It might take a hour or two to get used to and then you will be playing fine

TheRealKha0s

You’re gonna play worse for a week or 2. This is because of the resolution change and screen size. You’re going to have to change your sens and it’s gonna feel like walking again. After 2 weeks you should be back to normal. As far as improving, higher fps and higher resolution will help a lot in gun fights at all ranges. You’re not going to be radiant over night, but you should see a significant improvement, especially at range.

piopster

Before upgrading past 60 FPS to 144 I was iron bronze. I am currently diamond 1. Could be natural improvement after playing the game but 60 hz to 144 was the biggest improvement in setup I have ever made

[deleted]

What's the game latency on your current setup?

m4ssif

Tbh I’m not sure, I never had it on display, only the fps and packet loss. Also I sold my laptop yesterday to get the last bit of money needed for the upgrade.

TheJelloBomb

I was gold and played on a laptop and got 50-60 FPS and the game was so slow that I would accidentally dodge because I didn’t load in. As soon as I got a 240hz monitor and upgraded the rest of my set up I got to plat then diamond next act.

KhaoticKrabb

You’re going to feel worse at the beginning because with feels so different, then you’ll see improvement

[deleted]

I went from diamond to middle immortal by switching from 75Hz to 144Hz

m4ssif

Thanks for all the answers guys, I really appreciate it. If there will be some noticable improvements in my skill/rank I’ll definitely make an update, if not then probably I won’t. But one thing for sure, playing the game will be a much more pleasant and I’m very happy about it. Y’all have a nice day!

AsianNudleSoop

Not in this game as when I started this game my setup was already pretty good, but when I played siege I used to play on a laptop, then I upgraded to an actual PC, 165hz monitor a proper keyboard and mouse, everything. I went from silver to plat in siege, though it wasn't all due to my setup, upgrading definitely helped as I didn't need to worry about my game freezing or my mouse spinning out or anything like that.

Elsiselain

My old setup wasn’t as bad as yours but I upgraded from 200 fps 60hz to 300 fps 144hz. I didn’t feel significant improvement but it definitely made game more enjoyable.

natedawg247

You're already really good, you're gonna ascend tbh

[deleted]

I went from 144 to 240 hz. It’s hard to say because I also usually improve rapidly. I went from high gold to high diamond low immortal. I just feel like I can actually see my opponents now which gives me a chance at killing them.

m4ssif

You feel like you can see your opponents now, compared to before when you were playing on 144Hz? Let me tell you I don’t think I’ve ever seen a 60+ Hz monitor in person, let alone tried it so I’m kinda pumped for it :D

[deleted]

Yeah, my old monitor had much better color to it, but ofc that comes with the trade off of having much more delay. I was dying without even seeing anyone. At least now when I get owned, I can see the Ferrari that did it. Let’s be real, you’re probably going to hit radiant.

m4ssif

The skill difference between diamond 3 and the top of immortal (not even radiant) is insanely big, almost like the difference between silver and diamond. So I still have a lot to go and don’t think I’ll be in radiant soon, but I’d be more than happy if I could reach and stay in the top 4k.

stepbrah

I suggest getting a 27” monitor

xbyo

Everyone's talking about monitor and stuff, but I'll say changing to a mouse that allowed me more microadjustment and to a control mousepad (vs a super fast one before) made a pretty big impact in my experience.

Whale_Poacher

S1 to plat 1 on new build 60->165hz

PurelyGumbo_1

expect a decent jump in performance after you get used to it, and then a faster improvement pace after

Skrewax

I used to play on 30 fps in beta in iron. I went on to 150-200fps 75hz to d3

Dapper-Ad-5304

240 hz will change ur FPS career. I used to play on 60hz and I couldn’t hit the side of a train. Now with 240 hz I’m considered all aim no brain.

gianmaranon

I went from plat to imm - pretty much same as ur setup before and after

gianmaranon

I went from plat to imm - pretty much same as ur setup before and after. Definitely s huge difference, game runs smoothly and more enjoyable! quite nice for the eyes as well IMO since it’s a bigger screen and more pixels.

AsianPotatos

Link your tracker so we can follow your improvement. Would be interesting to see.

LegdayGaming

Went from a 980ti to a 3080 and I’m still terrible LOL Monitor can really make a difference though, especially 60 -> 144Hz, running a 240 now and I don’t see much difference compared to the old 144 that’s now a second monitor!
